  • Beth....just to say....made this and it was soooo good. The recipe is a keeper...going to post on FB so others can try it out. I put it in the oven (minus the spring onions) for about 1/2 hr. We made up the spice mix with garlic salt, chili powder, paprika, tumeric, garlic powder & pepper. It worked a treat :)

  • @whistonlass I'm glad you were able to modify and enjoy this dish!!

  • Well....we're cooking your recipe tonight :) I've friend up the chicken to your directions and made the sauce....but I'm going to put it in the oven for about half an hour to re-heat it when it's dinner time....we'll have it with rice and veg. We didn't have any seasoned salt so son and I concocted our own magic salt...lol You know, as you do...a bit of this, a bit of that! lol

So we'll see how it turns out....it is in a casserole dish now and smells delicious :)

  • I made this tonight and it was so delicious! I used chicken tenders instead of thighs and served it over rice. Good stuff!!

  • @lizzybethmaley NICE! I am going to try it again with breast tenderloins as well. They don't like fussing with the bone and I think it will cook up much faster. I am so glad that you enjoyed it and let me know you did :)

  • This looks nummy yummy!!!!!

  • Lucky you:)

  • Looks wonderful! Not being a bone person, I'll do this with boneless, but it looks like it needs the fats and juiciness of the thighs. I don't think it'd work as well with boobs.

I don't see Hoisan as a substitute for Oyster. I do think it'd work very well with this, and I wouldn't hesitate to use it, but it's not gonna taste the same.

  • @anmoose I agree with you about the taste. I personally do not care for hoisin sauce and avoid dishes with it. I may try a dish again and see if my tastes have changed, but it is rather doubtful.

  • That looks ono! Maybe you can try mushroom oyster sauce.

  • @sanseigx Thanks Reid. I hope you are doing well

  • That looks really delicious...I want some.

  • Once again, I would like this. The end shot - the chicken looks wonderful.

How do you like the Anolon pan? I have a Paderno that is almost exactly the same and it is very nice! Easy to keep clean and does well in the oven. - roc

  • @popparoc46 I am liking it a lot. It does clean up very well! This was delicious. I think you will enjoy it. Someone said to try and bake the chicken. I will try that.

  • @CookingAndCrafting good idea - the baking. I always get Pat to watch your cooking videos... his comment was "you can't have that because it is fried". I'll tell him we can bake it and then use the sauce.

As I type this, chicken is baking!

  • I have the chicken thawing right now to make this tonight! Thanks!

    Pam

  • Oh, that looks delish! Thanks again for a great recipe to try!

    And *hugs* to mom, kay?

  • Oh yeah, that is a winner!!

  • that is oyster sauce and what does it taste like?? can it be used w/vegetables/rice??? and NO you didnt say the word!!lol

  • Oyster sauce is one of my main staples to have handy. Another ono dish. Have you tried it broiled instead of fried? Will try your sauce. Just missing oyster sauce ahi or aku poke, poi, paakai, chili pepper water, and sardine or corned beef and onion. Now im hungry. Your fault Beth :-) Get well soon Mama so you can make your custard pie video. Hint hint ;-) 10Q Beth. Aloha...

  • Oh yummmy!! Looking good as always.

  • I just don't know where you get the time to do these cooking vlogs....but I sure am grateful you squeeze them in somehow, Beth :) This looks like another winning recipe....I've got so many of your recipes saved now.....I've never cooked with oyster sauce so this will be a first for me. So happy to read too that your mom is continuing to improve....just hoping they can solve the circulation probs for her too. x

  • Lee kum kee has a vegetarian mushroom oyster sauce. $7,99 for 18 0z.

  • @fortunecooking thats the brand I used

  • I have a whole bottle of oyster sauce from the time I made your Mom's fried noodles, looks like I have a plan!

Had your katsu chicken again last night for dinner!

  • Oh sure rub it in, picking vegis from the yard yaya....

    Looks freakin awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • did i tell you i nicked your long carpet in front of the sink thing? though the one i got is for a kids room. it is a play car rug, lol. when i put it in the kitchen i thought the boys would fuss but they did not :)

    xoexo

  • It looks like a winner for sure. I almost never fry though so then I just sit here and envy lol.

  • i just drooled all over my keyboard! yummy!!!!!!

  • Hoisan sauce can be a substituted for oyster sauce. Hoisan sauce is sweeter then oyster sauce so instead of 3 tablespoon of sugar, you can do half sugar and half salt so the sauce wouldn't be so sweet from the Hoisan sauce.

  • @msfloweryang Thank you. I will post that in the description in case someone needs to sub!

  • Everyone is using oyster recipes now xD this looks deliciiiiious but I can't eat oysters anymore -.- I developed an allergy. I still love oysters though :3 I'm the only one in my family and my group of friends that does.

  • @Sailorperson1 YEY! Per MsFlowerYang (above): Hoisan sauce can be a substituted for oyster sauce. Hoisan sauce is sweeter then oyster sauce so instead of 3 tablespoon of sugar, you can do half sugar and half salt so the sauce wouldn't be so sweet from the Hoisan sauce.

  • awesome, looks so good :D -- thanks!

  • yummy

  • hoisin sauce! might work as a good substitute for oyster sauce.

  • Never had oyster sauce before, but I would try it on this one!!
