  • I've used 500g shortening, 500g sugar, 24 tablespoons cocoa and 16 tablespoons powdered milk. Also some pistachios. Broke my silicone scraper in the meanwhile while mixing. Nicko, if this doesn't work and doesn't harden up; I swear to Satan, I'll come to the other side of the world and steal your scraper. I'm serious.. :)

  • I have to admit that I am fairly disappointed after trying this. It doesn't taste bad or anything, but this is far from tasting or being like chocolate. I didn't manage to get all the ingredients to "melt" together, so it kind of crunches when you eat it. It really just reminds me of a huge chunk of icing (the one you make with powdered sugar, water and coco powder). The taste barely compare to the taste of any chocolate.

  • @emilandersson91 Confectionary sugar and powered sugar is the same thing. Either way, its still not something that would make real chocolate.. The correct materials for chocolate is not the ones shown in this video.

  • Unless you are using cocoa liquor and cocoa butter, its not real chocolate. Its faux chocolate, like what mums used to make chocolate crackles for their kids with in Australia. Might look like the real thing but the taste is nothing like smooth, milk chocolate.

    can I substitute the veggy shortening with unsalted butter?

    vegetable shortening isn't very common here at our place and its very hard to find one even at the baker's depot.

  • @TheTalkingFish not sure but using a normal milk could affect your chocolate's consistency. dunno if its just me but i tried this before and my chocolate didn't harden.

    cause there would be too much liquid.

  • Tried this out and it came out nothing like the video, the mixture was completely dry and even after adding more shortening the cocoa made it taste sandy, yuck!!! You need to adjust the amounts.

  • Copha is vegetable fat shortening made from hydrogenated coconut oil. Its high in saturated fat and is very unhealthy. I wonder if once can substitute copha with something healthy like olive oil?
