I know what you mean, it seems for the most part that if a video has enough views, that they just ignore it, but to make it appear that they are in fact trying to prevent copyrighted material from appearing on their sites they take down all the copyrighted videos that don't bring them many views(money). I'm not say this is what they are doing, only what it appears they are doing.
Basically YouTomb is a site where videos end up that supposively have been taken down due to copyright and infringment issues... maybe do a "GoogleTube" search(thats what I call this site now) for YouTomb or even do a internet search about Youtomb ..... keep in mind on YouTomb you cant watch the videos that are being taken down from "GoogleTube"

i think a way to avoid having soundtracks in vids removed due to copyright is by crediting the soundtracks, cause my best vid has the songs cited while my other vids that have been muted dont have the soundtracks credited. ?

If you own the rights to distribute the audio and visual media, that solves the problem right there. As you don't own the rights (I assume), that's the issue. :(
Your video, how you described it, seems like a YouTube Poop. These are popular, but for whatever reason, companies take them down. Wouldn't mixing up a show to be comedic be considered PARODY, which is allowed under copyright law?!??

Parody and Satire SHOULD be possible under law, but the more things go on, the more it shows people want to control what we think and do. Hopefully you've managed to find people who know this, and have shared the movie in some way with them. :(
I lost all motivation to post videos in youtube after one of my videos got removed. If you cant use any premade stuff, its boring. I will switch to another video site as soon a discover one without such strict "copyright" rules. I can't really say they are rules, because they dont seem to apply to everybody equally as you already pointed out.
Just because you can't use other people's material doesn't mean you can't create something interesting with what you have. You would be surprised what could be created. ;)

They can pretty much take down your videos and account without notice if they wanted to, and hardly any time will be allowed for you to respond. Of course, that was the past, so unless things changed... *shrugs*
Well, every video site out there has to follow the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) where if a user is marked several times for copyright infringement, he is banned forever. Unfortunately, it's the law and YouTube is obligation to do it. It's all about getting along with the companies, and since it's damn near impossible for the "little guys" to compe to some sort of agreement with them, us "novelty" movie makers are just picked off left and right. I feel just as passionately as you do.
All you need to do to get rid of any problems with third parties is by actually saying that you borrowed the material in the descriptions. If you do that, they can't argue that it's copyright infringement, because technically you're not saying that the work is your's.
I wouldn't trust not getting suspended to a silly little "disclaimer." This copyright stuff is still confusing. I've actually been suspended once for that reason (this is the same account though).
Not much you can do about it though. YouTube has been vague in their descriptions on "Fair Use." It's all about not pissing off the companies. Some people post creatively-edited movies and get millions of hits. I just got suspended. Anyway, you made good points but what can you do about it.
Test the boundries. Follow the examples of people who use other peoples' work, and then complain like hell when you are the one who receives the flak. ;)

Who claimed copyright ownership of the video? Seeing as I'm sure you don't own them, it was either the music you used or the anime itself, because AMV's fall under videos which aren't allowed. Funny, because they make up a good amount of the content here. :P

Youtube doesn't make much sense to me. They take down copyright infringed videos, but leave others up. I've had a few taken down for that same reason. Although, I never received an e-mail from them saying that they were taken down. Not. One. Bloody. E-mail. Putting AMVs on YouTube is quite a trend. God knows how many of them there are on this website yet why doesn't YouTube delete any of them. After all, aren't they copyright infringement?
Viacom isn't the only one who can ask to have their copyrighted material taken down, though it does seem that way, doesn't it? ;)
Anyone can ask to have their content taken down if they go through the proper channels. If you see someone using copyrighte property or using something they aren't allowed to use, said video can be taken down. As example, my video was taken down because someone from Marvel asked for it.

As for why your vid out of the many other copyright-infringing ones got noticed & removed, well it's completely random, whatever theyre using / doing to catch 'em. Some companies have bots, some use real ppl, scanning YT randomly for their stuff, etc, sometimes sporadically here and there & sometimes in huge sweeps (ie Viacom's early this year, and 20th Century Fox most recently). But yea, I think fan edits are justified, so I'd just re-up ;D

Well I think that a lot of these grey area videos are delt with on a video to video basis. Its also based on what you are copywrighting, Im sure if you put up japanese anime episodes, they wouldnt get pulled. But if you put up The Colbert Report it would. One things for sure, no penis.

Your video, how you described it, seems like a YouTube Poop. These are popular, but for whatever reason, companies take them down. Wouldn't mixing up a show to be comedic be considered PARODY, which is allowed under copyright law?!??

Depends on your interpretation of the law. Still, it's all entertainment, and it seems unfair to penalize some people and not the rest.
Or perhaps people are sharing such entertainment in the wrong place, and YT is too bigoted to accept such things?

you are so lucky..i uploaded a voice over parody of an old godzilla vs king kong movie..i had my whole account deleted!! just for that one video..i only uploaded it to make people laugh..instead a get a email from youtube about 20th century fox blah blah copyright blah blah your account as been suspended

Parody and Satire SHOULD be possible under law, but the more things go on, the more it shows people want to control what we think and do. Hopefully you've managed to find people who know this, and have shared the movie in some way with them. :(

I lost all motivation to post videos in youtube after one of my videos got removed. If you cant use any premade stuff, its boring. I will switch to another video site as soon a discover one without such strict "copyright" rules. I can't really say they are rules, because they dont seem to apply to everybody equally as you already pointed out.

They can pretty much take down your videos and account without notice if they wanted to, and hardly any time will be allowed for you to respond. Of course, that was the past, so unless things changed... *shrugs*

Well, every video site out there has to follow the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) where if a user is marked several times for copyright infringement, he is banned forever. Unfortunately, it's the law and YouTube is obligation to do it. It's all about getting along with the companies, and since it's damn near impossible for the "little guys" to compe to some sort of agreement with them, us "novelty" movie makers are just picked off left and right. I feel just as passionately as you do.

All you need to do to get rid of any problems with third parties is by actually saying that you borrowed the material in the descriptions. If you do that, they can't argue that it's copyright infringement, because technically you're not saying that the work is your's.

I wouldn't trust not getting suspended to a silly little "disclaimer." This copyright stuff is still confusing. I've actually been suspended once for that reason (this is the same account though).
Not much you can do about it though. YouTube has been vague in their descriptions on "Fair Use." It's all about not pissing off the companies. Some people post creatively-edited movies and get millions of hits. I just got suspended. Anyway, you made good points but what can you do about it.

Who claimed copyright ownership of the video? Seeing as I'm sure you don't own them, it was either the music you used or the anime itself, because AMV's fall under videos which aren't allowed. Funny, because they make up a good amount of the content here. :P

could u look at my vids and send me a message if they would be under copyright, i got no idea what i can and cant put up, i didn't think promoting a song or something would be against the law. i hav had some audio tracks claimed by UMG (universal music group) but they didn't remove it just put adverts on it.

I have no idea what it means, which is why I try not to even think about the paradoxical mind games which are played by copyright law.
And UMG is Universal Music Group. They have a video channel here on YT as well (known as "universalmusicgroup").

Youtube doesn't make much sense to me. They take down copyright infringed videos, but leave others up. I've had a few taken down for that same reason. Although, I never received an e-mail from them saying that they were taken down. Not. One. Bloody. E-mail. I still have videos, but they're trailers for video games (and aren't I breaking another rule with those?).I just don't get it. Anyway, kudos on the video. ^^

Putting AMVs on YouTube is quite a trend. God knows how many of them there are on this website yet why doesn't YouTube delete any of them. After all, aren't they copyright infringement?

Viacom isn't the only one who can ask to have their copyrighted material taken down, though it does seem that way, doesn't it? ;)
Anyone can ask to have their content taken down if they go through the proper channels. If you see someone using copyrighte property or using something they aren't allowed to use, said video can be taken down. As example, my video was taken down because someone from Marvel asked for it.

As for why your vid out of the many other copyright-infringing ones got noticed & removed, well it's completely random, whatever theyre using / doing to catch 'em. Some companies have bots, some use real ppl, scanning YT randomly for their stuff, etc, sometimes sporadically here and there & sometimes in huge sweeps (ie Viacom's early this year, and 20th Century Fox most recently). But yea, I think fan edits are justified, so I'd just re-up ;D

it's like this... one day i had a perfectly good youtube link to "fuck her gently" by Tenacious D... 2 months later it died. So i went on the site and typed the name of the video and walah, 12 more identical videos... I could find you entire full length movies on youtube in 13 part videos (obnoxious, they really should upload somewhere else)... thing is the site is 2 big to police so just up em again and this time call it "x-men clip remix 108" instead of xmen 108 remix

Well I think that a lot of these grey area videos are delt with on a video to video basis. Its also based on what you are copywrighting, Im sure if you put up japanese anime episodes, they wouldnt get pulled. But if you put up The Colbert Report it would. One things for sure, no penis.
