@bynarr123 This scene is part of the Director's Cut of Lethal Weapon. It was part of a DVD box set of the extended versions of the Lethal Weapon films. As far as I know, I think the new blu ray release set are just the standard versions. I much prefer the extended cuts. There are a few extra scenes to the first film, as well as this "school-yard sniper" scene. I've got the box set of the Director's Cut of Lethal Weapon films...well worth it. It might still be available I think?
A cop carrying a gun that is not chambered is BS and how many times does he need to pull the hammer back? He did it twice here. This is why I don't care for movies anymore. They're all total and complete BS.
@jboritzki I like the enhanced sounds of Mel's weapon as a round is chambered and pulling the hammer back, plus the fact that he basically walks right up in front of the shooter and the shooter still misses him with an automatic rifle. A regular beat cop that knows his shit and is a good shot would have observed the snipers poor technique and taken him out immediately. No need to call in some desk jocky detective. While this scene is not very believable, it does looks cool.
Earlier in the film they already established Riggs as "unstable", so there really isn´t reason for this scene to be in the final movie.... except for it being awesome of course. I´m looking forward to watching the theatrical cuts on blu-ray, since I only own these so called "Directors Cut´s".
@VictoriousTrojan This scene is obviously an alternative to the cocaine dealer Christmas-tree shoot-out. You can't have two scenes where the hero kills people just going about his daily business. They were going for something called "plausibility," which is kind of a moot consideration by "Lethal Weapon 4," admittedly. Even Dirty Harry only stumbles across one robbery in progress per film.
@MsQuestor that's an affifmative on the 15... pay attn to the jui jitsu comment in the beginning by Glover, "15 in the mag one in the pipe suppose we have to register you as a lethal weapon" plus I damn near shot my toe off with a 15 berreta when learning to clean a gun
@JKM8511 There's a new Lethal Weapon Blu-Ray set coming out this month with all new remastered transfers. Let's hope we get the uncut version this time.
Good thing that gunman is a terrible shot. Also, he isn't "sniping" as per technically correct nomenclature. Perhaps he's a "sniper" according to the revised definition. He's got an M-1A. A good shooter would be able to hit the target at that range no problem.
Continuity error: Mel cocks the hammer on his Beretta too many times.
@IggyHazard "Continuity error: Mel cocks the hammer on his Beretta too many times." No he do that only one time just before he shoot the "sniper". do you know how Beretta 92F Safety is working? first when "Rigs" walk up the stairs his Beretta's hammer is down!
@VictoriousTrojan Agreed! I did not even know of its existence until I treated myself to a dvd copy (after losing my VHS copy a few years before). A superb scene and in my opinion, carries even more weight than the drug bust with the three guys that followed. I can find no reason as to why it was omitted. For me, it is this scene, along with the awesome acting in the trailer/hollow point scene that sold me completely as this guy being emotionally didturbed enough to wish for his life to end.
Spool badass, I'll never know why they cut this!!!
