The bucking horses buck because they want to buck. There are several horses that wont buck and that's why they are not at the rodeos. Several thousands of dollars are put into these animals and they're treated better than most people kids! If a horse doesn't want to do something (run, buck, turn, stop), then they wont. These animals are athletes and they get more credit than the people on them. Believe me, if a 1200 pound animal doesn't want to do it, a 150 pound person can't make them.

Ive worked for chuckwagon drivers during the Calgary Stampede and other rodeos and I can guarantee you their horses are treated better than any animal you've ever owned. Chuckwagon drivers buy racehorses that are injured and would be sent to the can if they had not been bought and rehabilitated by these drivers. Come back to the barns at any chuckwagon race then tell me the horses are being treated cruelly...

The calgary stampede was formed in the early 1900's so it is historic. The horses that were there would have been killed long ago if it werent for the stampede and the competitors. The horses are either former race horses in the chuckwagons or horses that will not conform to training. Most bucking horses are bred to buck though so they love to do it. Animal deaths happen but unfortunately accidents happen in front of an audience.

Because of what is happening at these large events, people are getting turned off by the idea of rodeo. The general public need to realize that in chuckwagon racing these horses are bred to run. Many, if not most, come off the race track and this is all they know. If it weren't for chuck racing these horses would be sent to slaughter because once their racing careers are over there's nothing else for them. They are lucky to get to have such a wonderful job doing what they were bred to do. Unfortunatley fatalities occur, should we kybosh competitive horse jumping? Dressage? Reining? Heavy pulling?

one had a heart attack, one broke it's back, I'm not sure exactly how the rest died but the majority of them suffered bad injuries which were put out of their misery.

Yeah a rodeo is for entertainment and money of course, but it's not like the horses are forced into running. Running is built in their genetics it's just unfortunate accidents do happen and the horses get a little too excited.

@pureplayaa Yeah horses have the ability to run, but they are forced to perform in the Rodeo. Has anyone ever said to a horse: "Hello horse, would you like to take part in the Calgary Stampede today?" It's reprehensible that we have to do things that are so stupid for entertainment.

@pureplayaa Just because its not HUMAN does NOT mean that its ok to drive the horses to death, i own horses i do not ask them to do any more than i would ever, as i would never ask someone to do something that i cant or dont want to do . GET REAL and stop cussing like a 15 year old punk kid, be adult about the situation, ive been to the stampede myself, i do think the rules need to be more clear on passing and such to avoid such accidents that take a horses and occasionally the drivers life

Yeah people need to more aware of animal cruelty, its a big shame what they do with animals, in Spain with bullfighting is also big shame just saying!
