I never knew the artist, song name, lyrics or anything but kept thinking of this catchy song and after only 15 minutes of searching I managed to find this!
It's incrediable how the words are stil embedded in my brians. It must have been over 45 years ago that I hear these songs, and I still remember every word! wow, what a deep impression. Thanks mum for all of the 45s that you brought home for us kids to groove on.
August 19th, Happy Birthday, Susan Jacks.........I had the pleasure of meeting Susan recently and found that not only does she have a beautiful voice, she's a beautiful person......I hope the sun is shining for you today Susan.
I used to hear this when we lived in McBride,BC and would return from Prince George. I was 12 at the time and have been fascinated with this song. It is a treasure and only ran across it years ago from Limewire.I was blown away to find it here! Thank - you for sharing it.
She reminds me most of Karen Carpenter, she has a textured voice like no one else and a kind of feminine kind of vulnerable mystique like Karen, sigh, can you fall in love with a voice?
I'm a musician and know musical quality when I hear it; from day one I thought Susan Jacks was a jewel. Unfortunately she never got the international recognition she really deserved (along with Bobby Curtola I might add!)
I agree with Deacon66 and RKF40. Cummings and Jacks are true icons and pioneers in Canadian music. Though I love Karen Carpenter's voice, I love Susan's even more. Sadly, this #1 material did not chart Stateside. The record company probably did not push it. :(
WOW! One of the greatest masterpieces of the 70's. I can't get enough of this song. I have been listening to it a lot nowadays. Thank you, Susan for your voice and that haunting rendition.
I remember first hearing The Poppy Family on CKLW. That was the BEST time! ..I just uploaded "You're A Part Of Me" from Susan on here, for anyone who remembers that one.
Any songs sung by Susan Jacks should be posted, regardless of no video. Just a pure, beautiful voice. Completely underated in my opinion.
I read that she is now in need of a kidney transplant (article Oct 3, 2009)...hopefully a match is found soon because she does want to get into the studio, and wouldn't you just love to see her perform!
Susan Jacks has a distinctive voice like another famous Candian singer...Burton Cummings.....both have voices that are recognizeable and both are great singers
She does have a great voice but the one song I really like by Susan Jacks is "Love Has No Pride" so if anyone can find it and put it on here.....I would be a very happy guy
I have spent a lot of time in the past looking for this song.(to purchase) So glad to find it on Youtube. I first heard while driving through Parry Sound on my way to Ottawa. That piece of countryside is still alive in me because of this song.
So true. It's amazing how much music impacts on your teenage years. The way a song can take you back to a perfect summer night, or the first date with a high school crush. I love the music of my 20's, 30's and beyond, but nothing brings back that rush of feelings like my precious 45's :)
I love this now old nugget of a song.I wish this could of been a proper video but that might not exist. The trouble is without the video one may assume this is a simple rip of the song and that could lead to problems with copyright and I do not want problems like that happening to anyone. Susan is one of my favorite all time singers and I thank you for posting this mid 70"s song,I enjoyed it very much. Bob
Did Susan have a song out sometime in the 70's ,post Poppy family (I guess) ,which had the lyrics or title "he remembers what a beautiful woman she was" ? I know I could look this stuff up but asking a fan wouldn't hurt, thanks
The song is "She Remembers" by Shari Ulrich, 1981. Shari was a California girl who moved to British Columbia in the early 70s and played backup for Valdy before branching out for 3 solo lps. You can find her on Myspace, and she has a great website.
I have always been a fan. I believe Susan has the best voice of all the female Canadian singers--past and present. I would match her against anyone--not just in Canada. Remember when she was recording her hits, it was all analog--no pushing sliders to bring the voice into pitch--what you hear is her real voice, and it is pure and true. A true Canadian icon.
I agree that Susan Jacks had a sound that was magnificent! Great point about the difference in recording technology when she was laying down her sweet tracks. I love her voice.
So true. I love her voice, and probably didn't appreciate it when I was young and she and Terry nearly dominated Canadian radio. She needs a Rick Rubin-like musical rebirth. I wonder if he knows about Susan. Hey Rick, you did wonders for Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond--how about calling up Susan?
I still think she could carry a tune without a hitch. Linda Ronstadt has to be around the same age, and she still sounds angelic. Come on, Susan! Give us some of that joy we loved growing up! Anyway, peace to you brian6078.
my name is Anna-Marie, i love hearing this song! there is another song that has Anna-Marie in it if you type in Anna-Marie by Jim Reeves, its really cool! I never hear this name, its not very common, so i love knowing there are a few songs that have my name in it.

didn't she die sometime in the 80s? or am i confusing her with her brother Terry Jacks?

Terry Jacks was her husband not her brother and they're both still alive.
