  • We should all respect what the song was written about..I remember when it happened just a jew miles away from me..NEVER FORGET KENT STATE!

  • It's because of great music that if I had to pick to be blind or deaf, I would pick blind

  • nothing tops this...

  • I'm sure that Neil would approve of that crappy commercial that preceded the video....

  • fuck advertisements

  • KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN THE REAL WORLD

  • neil young = pure greatness

  • Long Live Neil Young

  • love this song so moving! neil young is incredible i only really know crosby and young! are the other 2 good?

  • lets all fight about shit that doesnt matter on a youtube video!

  • @ejbigpapa

    haha fuckyes!

  • neil young capitalized off of his leftist persona, how ironic AND hypocritical. He just wanted to buy as many black dildos he could I suppose. A rich person has to have a hobby to occupy the time I guess.

  • "what if you knew her and found her dead on the ground?"

  • Yep, the 4 dead in ohio were more important than 50,000 dead in vietnam or the scores of people slaughterd under his beloved stalin. Wonderful priorities this spineless cock sucker has.

  • @TitaniumByFire You know nothing and apparently you don't listen to the song or take the time to go to your favorite search engine and find the meaning of this song. I'm guessing you're not the brightest apple on your family tree are you.

  • @brofranomo How ironic of you to say that you little sheep.

  • @TitaniumByFire One other thing. Do you understand what he meant when he said "should have been done long ago?" I'm betting you don't. Briefly, he was talking about the public demonstration against the war. Major demonstrations should have been done long before this one and 4 people died as a result. You're stalin comment makes no sense. This is America, not Russia. Neil sang the words that most of us were feeling.

  • @brofranomo You are correct about one thing, ww1 vand ww2 was wrong because we sided with commies like russia and china. As far as the stalin comment, get a clue, this guy was a leftist, a hypocrite who got rich while slandering the right.

  • @TitaniumByFire those four dead stood up what the believed in...had no guns or military training and were killed on american soil...by americans....least we forget that

  • @reeblite and were killed protesting for our boys who were killed in vietnam to come home...

  • @reeblite Only for the spoiled elitist self righteous brats to spit on them.

  • @reeblite Least you forget they should have either been in class which is what their rich mommys and daddys paid for them to do, and protest peacefully like they claimed they were instead of charging people with rocks, sticks, and bottles and causing property damage which was why the national guard was involved.

  • @TitaniumByFire you're making up all manner of scenery as far as what allegedly "provoked" those Natl Guardsmen. In fact, nothing did. They fired indiscriminately into a crowd of college-aged young people, killing 4 innocents.

This is America, where we have the constitutional right to peaceably assemble. If you are unaware why these basic human rights were framed into the foundation of this country's core law framework, then perhaps you require more schooling for yourself.

  • @hate2breakit2ya You like many like to simplify things because anything more fies the circuits of the program in the preverbial robots. Keeping things in a simple script makes it easier to identify who is "right" and "wrong". Also another irony and hypocricy is that todays protesters of the present power structure have been slammed and demonized by leftist, and have even been called " a threat to national security" and "domestic terrorist" along with "paranoid ignorant inbreds".

  • May 4 Massacre or Kent State massacre – occurred at Kent State University in the city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by members of the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.

    from: wikipedia

  • (cont):

The shootings killed four students and wounded nine. Two of the four students killed, Allison Krause and Jeffrey Miller, had participated in the protest, and the other two, Sandra Scheuer and William Knox Schroeder, had been walking from one class to the next at the time of their deaths.

  • @TitaniumByFire as you see from the posts above, two were walking to class, not involved in the demonstrations...yes, mob pyschology was used in these demonstrations to provoke violence, which was only done by a minority of people, as i witnessed in the boston riots back in 1968 as a young teenager who, driven out to the streets to protest the war by horrorific images on tv that were not subjected to ratings and edits back then, dead soldiers with their penis cut off and stuck into their mouth..

  • A taleted artist singing about the unfortunate events that took place long ago which many of us forget. Our greatest adversary can be our country itself. I salute our troops and mourn those that lost their lives that day...

  • I did not know this existed until now! Will have to check out the whole show! Always so awesome 'LIVE'! Thx 4 sharing.

  • Beautiful rhythm from beginning to end.

  • My favorite artist tori amos covered part of this song ---tori amos pancake(ohio) live san antoni. The song is about the hypocrisy in religion, add a little ohio in there and its a pretty powerful musical statement. Anyway Neil perhaps the greatest siner song writer of all time

  • neil young's songs had meaning, style, and excellence. Nobody today has good songs with meaningful lyrics. who?? if you know let me know,

  • @kbots28 Dave Matthews

  • Who sings in the background at the end on the studio version?

  • @trevycoley83 crosby stills nash?

  • @nickfromCO that's who??whoever it was killed it!i love how they break it down at the end.

  • This is the son of the famous country singer Farron Young.

  • @brofranomo Ummm.....what?

  • hard.

  • one of best protest songs ever

  • @pieoscar i ment to agree with that.

  • wouoldnt the pope have delusions of grandure?

  • my sister just saw him play in kentucky

  • Musical genius.

  • kent state must have been awful

  • My dad went to Kent State Every year for three years in a row after the whole thing just so if their was a riot to break loose, he would be there. obviously nothing happened but he heard a lot of famous speakers. He use to have friends at Kent State he said the kids there always partied hard snd were wild and they would take the parties to the streets and if they got too bad, police you shoot rubber bullets at the people he said they really left huge bruses. it's crazy.

  • The Pope claims to own the entire planet through the laws of conquest and discovery. (Papal Bulls of 1455 and 1493)

The FCC, CIA, FBI, NASA and all of the other alphabet gangs were never part of the United States government. Even though the "US Government" held shares of stock in the various Agencies. (U.S. V. Strang , 254 US 491, Lewis v. US, 680 F.2d, 1239)

    America is a British Colony!

Britain is owned by the Vatican

  • Hey Neil-have somebody hand u a tuned guitar-create a job-we are dying out here

  • @pillroller88 it is all part of the singer -songwriter thing, he used the same guitar, changing tunings as he went

  • wow - so mcdonalds is the pin

  • Wouldn't Neil Young be proud of the Beggin' Strips commercial preceding this masterpiece?

  • @MrGrevy i got geico. not too bad.

  • @Cincinnatianer

So if Obama and Carter are so terrible to you, you must idolize Presidents such as Lyndon B. Johnson (who used his time in office to escalate a pointless and costly war) and George W. Bush (who, need I remind you, started another relatively pointless conflict and drove us trillions of dollars further into debt.) Am I not correct, sir? Speaking with the language of a Sailor and cursing men who are mere victims of circumstance is probably a reason many countries look down upon us.

  • Cincinnatianer, I highly suggest you read the constitution before you begin political discussions. Yes, the oil spill is horrible. But you have over stepped your grounds in blaming a person who had no involvement whatsoever in causing the catastophe for a lack of action. What can you do? Anyways, where does Hoover, Taylor and Tyler rank on your list? Or do you know who they are? Think before you speak.

  • His voice is so different. Thats what makes it great.

  • The Coast Guard was there on Day 1. Last I checked, they're part of the Armed Forces. You people are imbeciles.

  • I am a Kent Stater! God bless the dead and wounded in the MAy 4th 1970 shootings here at Kent State...By the looks of things though, the government still doesn't fucking get it...How many people have to die in order for us to get our shit straight?

  • that man can play guitar

  • There has been no "lack of action". The weather hasn't been exactly ideal for any sort of clean up or burn off. The problem is too big, and there is no magic wand that Obama can magically wave. All of this be traced back to Cheney and his secret energy policies. If you want to do any finger pointing, then I've told you where to look. BTW, please respect the memory of those massacred at Kent State, and keep your ignorant anti-Obama rhetoric to yourself. Neil wouldn't want it any other way.

  • @fabcat "the weather hasn't been ideal for any sort of clean up" fuck off loser. keep sucking obamas dick. obama fucked up by not declaring this a crisis on day 1 but instead frolicking through the woods in north carolina for three days

  • @Cincinnatianer

    Wow. Nice language. Highly intelligent.

  • @fabcat you look so intelligent calling someone youve never met in your fucking life unintelligent! wow! youre so smart fabcat!! i envy you!!!!

  • @Cincinnatianer Insulting, nasty language with no regard for the facts or issues. You must be really proud of yourself. I can't wait to see what brilliant commentary you come up with next.

  • @fabcat heres a fact: obama is the second worst president in US history (under carter of course). your time will come in november and 2012. youll be all talk from now until then and even after but you cant control votes bitch. bless me with another comment

  • @Cincinnatianer you are a dumb shit how is he under carter and also witch president in 1931 didnt do anything during the depression of course that would be hoover.

  • @cbkxsniperkillx witch?

  • @Cincinnatianer pleez do fuck off

  • I hope he writes a song about Obama's lack of action on the oil spill!

  • @MrGrevy you are an idiot! Lack of action? Turn on something other than FixedNews, dumbass.

  • @bigfatbass Yes...lack of action. It's been 13 days and he said they were ready to do the 'burn' strategy and haven't done it yet. A lack of action. As for the cliche about Fox news...uhhh I don't think Fox News has any control over Obama's lack of action.

  • My mom's friend was killed at Kent State. She was not even part of the protest. She was walking to class. Of the four people killed, two were women. I think he is referring to her in this song, at least according to wikipedia. And she is buried about 10 feet from my grandparents, so I am not going to forget.

  • @schupy81 Hahahaha Good. One less unproductive rabble-rouser.

  • @MrGrevy Fuck you. Reveling in the death of an innocent. You are literally scum.

  • i learned how to play this on the guitar and it has a kind of numbing felling to play it, it has just such a power

  • what ever happened to saying fuck you to the government

    peace and love ftw

  • i love this song and I'm 11. my teacher recommended this song to his class

  • 4 DEAD, 1 PARALYZED, AND 8 INJURED

  • This man is a first class songwriter and humanitarian.

And he can play a little guitar and sing too.

  • @chihawks2010 ... :)... I don't think there is best definition of Neil... he's a Living National Treasure.

  • this song was played in a document i watched in history class talking about how those 4 kids died it showed a live version of neil and some other dude playing ohio it was cool

  • @pinkfloyd257 possibly Crosby, Stephen Stills, or Nash? This was the group Neil produced the song with

  • @pinkfloyd257

I learned of Neil from my sociology professor when we were talking about crowd behavior and songs as a means to spread a message and instigate action

  • ahh, so it is double drop d

  • hey if you like this check the isley brothers cover of this....isley brothers- ohio/machine gun (LIVE) ernie isley on guitar will blow ur mind...i shit you not

  • no song ever has one meaning, even if the songwriter intended their to be one. Music is the foundation for the listener to interprit and build the rest with their imagination which is stimulated by the music and lyrics.

  • cory is not smart

  • God I wish someone would moderate these comments. So much off topic blather.

  • man I like the songs that are, well lets go ahead and say it, liberal

but at the same time I don't like them because well I just don't like it when a famous singer says basically what is wrong and who is to blame, if you can get what I am saying. No disrespect just that is my opinion

  • a. there's nothing wrong with being a LIBERAL. Nothing.

    b. Most songwriters write from their unique POV. Listen to the lyrics again. He was experssing, HIS POV. It's meant to provoke thought and express feelings. Not declare right and wrong.

  • @MST720 Lol so you don't like protest songs then is what you're saying. You're listening to the wrong song then buddy.

  • @MST720 Society disregards the insights of it's artists at it's own risk. No art can be created in a vaccum: it's always the artist reacting to something.

You don't have to agree with Neil's perspective here, but you can't doubt he felt these emotions deeply, and needed to react. That's the way great art comes to you.

  • @heuythizzlle ha u must be very proud of yourself insulting successful musicians, and how do u stumble upon commenting youtube vids you don't like?...never mind

  • yo mama

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah your right

  • I think this version is the most powerful I have seen

  • Neil is the best and always will be. No one rocks it like he does. He is 64 and just as refined as he was 40 years ago. Go Canada!

  • I'm sure Neil sounds much better than your cousin... moron.

  • i would like ur guys opinion, whats better this version or his electric version of ohio

  • i think the acoustic version is better. it just seems more serious this way, matches the lyrics better.

  • but the rock version conveys the anger better

    this is more reflective

  • @ryost yeah, Don Henley called it something like a 'terrible beauty'...

  • @fearlessleader4life Both are awesome and sang at different times. My husband sings and often changes up the song. It is their mood.

  • desertjournalonline.... get a life

  • Whose life do you want me to have?

  • Don't be a wierdo or a creep.

  • Whatever, just trying to be funny, so what's your gig and claim to fame?

  • Neil Young. Heart of Gold.

  • 2004 80% 18-45 year olds didnt vote because of long line over 10 hrs.

  • Last time the vote came around 80% of 18-45 didnt vote!

  • that was wrong what they did to those four college students in Kent Uneversity but the song its self is amazing even though those soilders shouldnt have shot and killed them i may be young but still i understand what happened VERY WRONG!

  • dont critizize him for his idea and beliefs you conservative assholes

  • Check out ohio/Machinegun performed by isley brothers.Electic guitar.

  • Neil Young is one of the best.

  • My ex-girlfriends father was shot at Kent State... luckily he survived.

    Neil Young is the greatest.

  • Someone needs to write a 2008 version of this song. Maybe Bo Gritz???

  • I love this song go to BHB and see me

  • great song but neil looks kinda freaky with this lighting

  • he does but i think it kinda fits the darkness of the song

  • facinating discution. what does all this mean for the kent state massicre and niel young?

  • The electoral college decides who is to be the president. We, the people do not get to choose who will be the next president. The president elect is chosen by a small group of very powerful and wealthy men, (the electoral college), while we the people vote in a big popularity contest. However, on the bright side of this is that our votes do count and are important in our state elections. Again, this is why it is so important that you vote in your state elections.

  • what? Do you have a knowledge of how the system works? You vote and whichever canidate wins your state is the one that gets the electoral votes. It isn't just simply these "wealthy men" decide who is president. Where did you get that at?

  • I hate to reply to such an old statement, but its bugging me so much.

No, you are just blatantly wrong. We, in reality, have absolutely no say in what the electoral college does and whom it votes for. Now, politicians are smart enough not to disobey our votes, and the electors we vote for are all people who are extremely loyal to a certain candidate, the candidate we voted for. BUT the electors could vote for anyone they wanted, technically. They just never do.

  • what a great song huh? =)

  • One last comment I have is that we hear from so many protesters, people in the news who talk about voting the president out of office, or that "we should elect" someone who will end the war. I cannot help but scratch my head. The statement "we should elect our next President" is misleading, because the citizen votes count only in the popular vote, not the electoral college.

  • Another observation is that so many protests are aimed directly at the president. Again, the president is not all powerful. "The States," our representatives, our collective Congress has more power. This is why it is so important that you vote in your state elections and pay extra attention to whom you are electing. Send your opinions, concerns, and ideas to your elected officials in your states.

  • Question, what Did Harry S. Truman so famously say about the Oval Office?

    "The buck stops here."

  • We should all keep in mind that the decision to go to war with Iraq was agreed upon by both parties and congress. The president is not all powerful. Yes, he can declare war with his bestowed power, but it is the House, the Senate, Congress that provides the funding to go to war. I am not trying to be the devil's advocate; I too believe we went to war under false pretenses. Overwhelming evidence supports this fact. Politics, the great horse trade must always be taken into consideration.

  • WW1-U.S. president Wilson(D), WW11-U.S. president Roosevelt(D), U.S. policy before both of these wars was that of isolationism. Did not enter either war until 2yrs. after they began. Many killed in meantime. Truman(D) ordered nukes dropped on two Japanese cities, saving 1/2mil. American lives. Viet Nam-president JFK initially then Johnson(D) full on. Nixon(R) worked on withdrawal, slowly and Ford(R) finished in '75. BTW, RFK(D) would have been twice the pres. as his brother!

  • Oops, change that 1/2mil. to 500k +or-.

  • That was the past, now is now. The fact is Bush took us into Iraq on false pretenses and the notion that Iraq was an imminent threat, which it was NOT. The intelligence was cooked up by Bush and Cheney and then they went to war. This is treason. Treason against the whole of the American public and especially against the men and women they sent off to die in that unholy, illegal war. We must hold criminals accountable.

  • great comment, its the absolute truth

  • Unfortunately I have to agree with you. After billions spent and countless bodies maimed and killed, what is left and what do we have to show for it? More of the same, nothing!

    Keep up the good fight!

    Your friend,

    David

  • Thanks, Peace!

  • And because of your generational agism issue, I now question your ability to bear light, Lucifer. Are you going to bear light when you insult me, based on my 53 years of life? I have survived thru the Cuban missile crisis, the assassination of Kennedy, the Vietnam war, numerous other skirmishes, rape, degredation of the spirit, Bush lies, and a lot more than you could possibly know, Lucifer. But I respect the younger people because one day they will lead and the sooner the better, in my book.

  • Basically, I believe younger people should get involved and take over their political destinies. My generation failed in so many ways, yet they do have their successes too. But now is the time for the young to start pushing their agenda forward - quality education, affordable college, housing, day care, etc...

  • I do not have a ageism issue for you were the one to bring up the age subject in the first place. Its nice to think that the new generation will do better but even if they don't do the same mistakes as ur generation did they will just find new errors to make for that is human nature.

  • I wasn't speaking of human failure. I was speaking of human need and the reason young people should speak up for their own needs. The fact is, the GOP has spent a lifetime telling us we deserve nothing - no healthcare, no childcare, no nothing except slave our asses off for their fascist companies that don't respect freedom, just conformity. I know one of these days, Lucifer, we'll find common ground, but you just sound like a pissed off cowboy (much like me).

  • I'm not really pissed at all,but if u think i am thats great.I'm sure we might find common ground one day its possible i guess.

  • Cool, man, I'm not as closed minded as you might think. And I think I learned from you. Using religious lingo against an opponent is a turn off. But you know, repentance means change of heart and perhaps you did bring me to my knees to humble me. All I can say is thanks, I'm a better person for it.

  • I agree, we can all be wrong at first. The open mind is willing to learn and expand. The closed mind can not see. A humbled man is worth more than an army who fights for the wrong reason. A change of heart, a truth exposed.

    A humbled man!

    David

    82nd Airborne inactive

    Go Airborne and never forget!

  • Thank you for your comment. I hope all is well. My friend Ron Brim served in the 82nd during the Vietnam Era - awesome dude.

  • i think people need to earn they're own money so they can take care of themselves it keeps people from being lazy and thinking they can just slack off and feed off of welfare, i have friends who work for the state and until you see how many leeches there are, you wont understand why these programs arent going to work. i say let us keep the money we earn and have the people who dont work and waste money to keep it that way. survival of the fittest end of story.

  • I'm glad you shed great compassion for your fellow man. I just hope you don't have any family members who suffer under your system of government.

  • But after Lucifer brought light he thought he was God and attempted mutiny before his Creator, thus was cast out of the heavens with one third of the angels, now known as demons. But I will accept your interpretation. Perhaps you bring light and perhaps your admonishment will make me more sensitive and perhaps stop using religious lingo in debate. Just I can't resist using it against hypocrits. But now I question your generational prejudice. I'm more open than you could know.

  • Okay, I'm gonna say this again because someone thumbed my comment out:

End all wars and the police state. Vote Obama 2008!

Now said, I want to point out what Neil's song, "Looking for a Leader," says:

    "...And maybe it's a woman

Or a black man after all...

    Maybe it's Obama

But he thinks that he's too young..."

So there, Obama is my choice, not because Neil said so, but because Obama is right for our country now.

  • By the way, I love Neil's song, Ohio. If I were him, I would wipe out all of the negative comments, probably including mine. Sorry, Neil, just having some civil discourse...

  • what a swank song

  • neil young is god everyone shut up and stop fighting

  • let the people control the government, don't let them control us..vote republican idiot

  • Excuse me, but you lack civility. I personally think Republicans can go to hell with their Satanic wars and blood money. Republicans used to be peaceful, but they take comfort with the enemy - FEAR itself...

  • Oh, you picked the wrong person to argue with. I'll crush you with words!

  • So all republicans are Satan worshipers?

  • Not unless you repent of your complicity and support for the devil... The fact is that most Republicas support Bush's Satanic war and use FEAR to get people to act. It won't work this time. TRUTH will reign. No more deceit. Satan is the father of all lies, if you believe Bush, then Satan is your father.

  • Omfg fucking idiot,Leave ur reiligous bullshit out of ur liberal preaching.

  • The fuckin' Neo-Cons have been hijacking our religion and using it against us. It's time to turn the tide against the bastards. And I have no religious bullshit, that's your department, asshole!

  • Religion is always against all mankind.Nothing good comes out of it so whatever religion u r its bullshit so stfu retard.

  • So, Lucifer, what's wrong with me using the tools that the religious rats use against the rest of us? Maybe we have common goals, maybe not. But I won't sell my soul for blood money.

  • If u use the tools that the "religious rats" use then u r no better than they are.

  • But this is war, war justifies the means. Just look at lawless Bush - he can break ten million laws and get away with it. What kind of message does that send to our kids? They need to know they must repent. So I don't use tools against them, I use these tools to help them see the LIGHT! So you're wrong here this time.

  • You can call it whatever u want. You can call it helping them to see the light or u can call it going against them, whatever u like. You still use it against them therefor ur a hypocrite and u lost this entire argument,Srry.

  • Alright, I merely use their language to communicate with them because that's all they know. You gotta touch their conscience some way because they have none or they bury it with falsehoods and deceit, which is your department, Lucifer. Why do you call yourself Lucifer? You're beinning to sound more like God himself; of course, that's why you were tossed out of heaven, right? Just kiddin'!

  • Oh, and I rarely lose an argument. My mother, the debate queen, passed down some awfully mean genes down to me, so watch out, I will trump even Lucifer in these commentary debates. I have stamina and lots of wind.

  • Your mother must have been a terrible debater because i quickly co
