The president elect is chosen by a small group of very powerful and wealthy men, (the electoral college), while we the people vote in a big popularity contest. However, on the bright side of this is that our votes do count and are important in our state elections. Again, this is why it is so important that you vote in your state elections.

My mom's friend was killed at Kent State. She was not even part of the protest. She was walking to class. Of the four people killed, two were women. I think he is referring to her in this song, at least according to wikipedia. And she is buried about 10 feet from my grandparents, so I am not going to forget.

The president elect is chosen by a small group of very powerful and wealthy men, (the electoral college), while we the people vote in a big popularity contest. However, on the bright side of this is that our votes do count and are important in our state elections. Again, this is why it is so important that you vote in your state elections.

No, you are just blatantly wrong. We, in reality, have absolutely no say in what the electoral college does and whom it votes for. Now, politicians are smart enough not to disobey our votes, and the electors we vote for are all people who are extremely loyal to a certain candidate, the candidate we voted for. BUT the electors could vote for anyone they wanted, technically. They just never do.

One last comment I have is that we hear from so many protesters, people in the news who talk about voting the president out of office, or that "we should elect" someone who will end the war. I cannot help but scratch my head. The statement "we should elect our next President" is misleading, because the citizen votes count only in the popular vote, not the electoral college.

This is why it is so important that you vote in your state elections and pay extra attention to whom you are electing. We should all keep in mind that the decision to go to war with Iraq was agreed upon by both parties and congress. The president is not all powerful. Yes, he can declare war with his bestowed power, but it is the House, the Senate, Congress that provides the funding to go to war. I am not trying to be the devil's advocate; I too believe we went to war under false pretenses. Overwhelming evidence supports this fact. Politics, the great horse trade must always be taken into consideration.

Nixon(R) worked on withdrawal, slowly and Ford(R) finished in '75. BTW, RFK(D) would have been twice the pres. as his brother!
