hello,,must be a way to make change sequences on the mpc everytime ableton change scene,,this way we could program a specific sequence on the mpc for a specific scene in ableton,,this way we also could send program change from ableton to,,for example your moog or my prophet 8,,any idea on how to do this?
What youll wanna do is find a program bank that JUST controls Ableton, go the the F or E letters, just so you dont actually hit them, and Midi link your NEXT SEQUENCE and/or PREVIOUS SEQUENCE to a particular button on the MPC. Personally, I like doing that on a midi controller, but yes , it can be done. If you are getting results that you arn't happy with, use the Midi Filter inside of the MPC to knock out all the unnecessary data.
Thanks for the vid! But how you get this recorded in to a finished song? What you are doing is just live jamming. I mean how you record the MPC while you switch tracks on/off? Are you multi-tracking the mpc outputs to Ableton?
I have MPC and Ableton and im struggling to find a smart way to use them both. I just want to use MPC's sequencer for drums and use Ableton for the rest.
Typically just live Jam, running these outputs all into a MOTU 8 in sound card, recording each instrument separately, then mixing later if any of us get an idea. We have an engineer that pretty much mans the mixer as well in a live situation so thats being put to the test. As far as getting the individual separate programs out of the MPC, you'd need a special card, and I am not really interested in that.
You can just do that, what you mentioned , MPC for the Drums and
Ableton for the rest of your track, but you can also use ableton to get you started on making an mPC beat, then take the Ableton away and youd be surprised what you can build from scratch when you have just a little "inspiration" playing from Ableton that is locked to time. the pads are REALLY nice on the MPC but Ableton is kind of a pain in the ass right now at Version 7 to kick ALL 60 of those pads over IN ORDER into Ableton...
I am thinking of buying an Akai MPD24 midi pad controller.Could this be used to trigger samples from say Ableton or any other files I have. Also I have a waldorf pulse+ so could I assign that to the MPD24 also as its just a mono synth??Would an EMU 0404 souncard do for the MIDI usb interface...cheers
Absolutely! I actually love the pads and find them to be just as great as any other Akai MPC. You have the option of using the sampler feature inside of Ableton, Plugins like SampleTank , Battery and other Giga VST Samplers, OR you can actually enable and disable clips in the session view.
As for the Waldorf, I would run the Waldorf into and out of Ableton as well as the pads, and have that Midi signal go from the pads THROUGH Ableton into the Waldorf.. Youll Get better Automation.
Much appreciated mate.I have seen a Midiman 2x4 online so hope that will do the job. Also do you recomend a compatable audio soundcard in the £100 range that would do for recording acous.guitar, vocals etc.Sorry for all the questions.....peace.
I have wanted to learn how to use the midi clock from my Cubase 4 to run my Mpc 4000, now i know how "thanks man" but what was the name of the lil USB thing you used? gotta get that TODAY
You are correct, I am just educating the peple that have them, and it doesnt have to be an MPC, it can be ANY drum machine, its just that the MPC is so popular.
OK, but fruity loops proves to be a very poor live instrument. We use fruity loops from time to time to make loops, but they all end up coming into Live. Besides, this is a Tutorial geared to the connectivity and setup of midi settings into and out of the MPC and Ableton...
Don't down equipment just because it may be out of your price range homie. If FL was the end all be all everyone would be using it. Some of us prefer hardware and willing to spend major dollars for it.

Really cool! Can you assign seperate FX from Ableton Live to each of your tracks on the MPC? Also, I have a 2500 myself, is it possible to do the same?
No but you could if you wanted to. Out of the MPC, you could run it back into the Ableton machines sound Card, and Place effects onto one channel. Problem is, you would only e able to do 1 channel unless your MPC comes with a 8 Out Card. Yes, the 2500 will work fine, but the setup may be different. Let me know what kind of issues you have and Id be happy to help
I do hip-hop myself but I like this, something different that sounds good iz always refreshing...Also nice to see the MP4 being used to make something other that RAP..
now u just need some scratchn in there or whistle in higher pitch

Yes, your soundcard will do, But keep in mind this is only going to give you 1 in and one out, I highly recommend a MidiMan Sport 2x2 or 4x4

I guess you are pretty limited for less than 200 USD , but stay away from the TC Native sound cards. . . they are nothing but trouble!

I agree, But some great is just ROCK SOLID. Ableton isnt there yet, but neither is the MPC so, lets agree to disagree.

It s not worth buying a MPC knowing the result sorry....It s so expensive...and not that much useful in yor case

I've been thinking of getting an MPC, I have ableton.. could i just get a usb midi pad thing to do the same thing?
RandomSheep 3 years ago
Yes of course, and use it with Battery by Native Instruments or use the next sampler feature in Ableton.

i COULD have done that in Fl for a fraction of the price.
