Great track from a great album! I really enjoy those melancholic tracks from Suede's debut, like She's Not Dead, Pantomime Horse, this one and The Next Life. Too bad they made a musical U-turn on Coming Up. They never became the same again...
@dogdeath83 So true. As much as I love the first two albums, and believe me, I love them with all my heart, I cannot enjoy Coming Up or anything after it.
@Oscar301 It's two women. The original photo was of two lesbian women in wheelchairs kissing. But the owners of the photo wanted them to be airbrushed to protect their identities and also to cut the wheelchairs from the pic. Would love to see it!
Bernard Butler has said he wrote this song wanting it to be his shot at a 'Wild Horses' (the Rolling Stones song). It has a similar feel to it, although it's different :)
I agree. Have searched everywhere for a live-performance of this song. But no. Havent found. Seems like they never played this awesome track live. What a pity... :(
I lost someone I knew some 15 years ago... Think about her every time I hear this. Whereas this has no interest to the public reading this, one has to admit that rather a lot of suedes first album was kinda sad in all it's majesty.
@Bongobobby9 Sad but Striking..with a sort of nostalgic yearning that never gets met..I think that this was truly a Great album.....a majestic dislocated beauty..
An amazing album. My first gig also which was amazing back in 1996.

"in a Volvo" What does mean? Just a brand name?
lostincat 3 years ago
It's the name of a car company

also used here as a subtle reference to a female body part

or poignant & ethereal rather, i guess Suede's beauty just got to me x.

'does he only come in a Volvo'--only the genius & beauty of Suede can make these words so poignant etherealxxx.
