As an LMT a lot of clients come in and have concerns of low back area pain. I usually do lots of stretching to help allevaite that, but like this very much. Thanks for posting this.
Oh my gosh, this has helped me so much. I just did this and it has enabled me to take full strides without that pull in my groin that I've had for so long. I'm going to start doing this every day to loosen that area up first thing in the morning. Thank you so much for providing this helpful video.
Hi Sam. What do you suggest I should do if this stretch makes my knee hurt while performing it? I just relax my entire leg, not contracting quadriceps. Still, it feels as if my knee cap is pulled out of it's natural position. I suppose it has to do with my rectus femoris muscle? Although I know for a fact that my rectus femoris muscle is not particularly short at all. Thanks for your great videos.
You will need to stretch the quads prior to doing the movement. In addition, foam rolling your IT bands and the quads should help with warming the tissues to prep for the stretch.
Trainer from "Fitness Doctors" is misleading and should change the name. Any personal trainer (the guy sitting on the table, for example) should NOT use "doctor" in their company name, as the public will be intentionally mislead in thinking they have the potential of "curing" them because of the "doctor" in their company name. What a salesman. :(
As for Sam, I already knew this info but I certainly appreciate his clarity in speaking well, clearly, and short. Lots of good info in a short time!
My pain is all on the left but the right side definitely feels much tighter when I do my stretches. What gives? Also, what do you mean in your response to LaceyV, "the SI joint is out"? What does "out" mean? Thanks!
I suggest NOT focusing on where the pain is, but what you find that is restricted in motion. You won't know which side is "normal" and which is "tight". The SI joint may be problematic on the loose or the "stuck" side. "out" is referring generally to a position outside of normal function. Chiropractors may refer to this as a "subluxation".
Warm up first. Any muscle streatched when "cold" will sometimes reflexively want to tighten as a protective measure. Do multiple short stretches instead of one session doing a longtime stretching also. It keeps it from fatigue and you "train" for muscle memory. These are off some of the latest research articles I have read from physio experts. Keep up the good work!
@TheWhidbeydc What this guy says should be payed attention to. Warming up with mobilty/activation exercises and dynamic stretches is almost a must before any static stretch.
Not really related to this. But this video has helped me a lot (Had massive pelvic tilt for years, I didn't even know you could do anything about it).. So I've got a question. The best way I can describe it is that my left 'greater trochanter' sticks out quite a bit more than my right. What causes this, and can anything be done to "straighen out" the imbalance?
hi sam, i'm in good shape. 40 years old. thought i had inguinal hernia was so chronically sore. psoas on both side get sore running, jogging, biking. should i just stretch them more or what. how do i make the pain go for good. cheers
when i throw a right round house, my right side lower back hurts, its around the quadratus lomborum area, any ideas? ive gone to 3 doctors and they still dont know whats wrong
With an anteriorly tilted ilium, the psoas will be tight on that side. Thus, if the left is in anterior tilt, then the left psoas will be tight. However, test them both. The tighter side is likely the dysfunctional side.
@LeonardoNasir i have the same issue for years, chronic butt pain...finally got 5-6 months relief but it's back again. I did have massage and stretching of the psoas so that might have been the ticket but I can't be sure.
you are not the only one that's on his own, i am on my own in florida and i ain't got no money either, but this info. looks good thou thank god for this guys that put this information on the web

I used to stretch my psoas, but then it got even tighter. What should I do so this doesn't happen again?
LaceyV 1 year ago
@LaceyV ,
Many times the psoas is chronic tension as a reflex because the sacro-iliac joint is out. Once the correction is made, it releases.

If I have an anterior pelvic tilt with sciatic pain on the LEFT side, which psoas muscle should I stretch, the left or the right psoas?
LeonardoNasir 1 year ago
sciatic nerve is usually traped by piriformis muscle(piriformis syndrome) = look up piriformis stretch

Thanks, I have prostatis which is due in my case to tightness of this and other muscles so this helped quite a bit.
