Your videos are one of the best I have seen in the field of photography. There is lot of crap on you tube, but this one is far best from any videos related to photography, way to go man....
I never really noticed that each click is 1/3 stop... that one tip will make things even easier until I become a natural.. great video... actually they're all great :) Thanks!!
i now understand how everyone knows it is over expose.under but i am using a nikon d90 and my hash marks are not moving all no matter which way i move my shutter or aperature (i am in manual) any ideas? it is two stops under but pic looks fine.
Mark great lesson. I would like to see more of this type of instruction. I never really had a clear understanding of stops. I watch all of your videos and find them very useful.
I buy most of my equipment from Adorama as a way of saying thanks for the help.
Your video is the bomb. This is the first time I have seen or heard a simple, concise explanation of stops that made perfect sense. knowing the dials increment at 1/3 stop each click is greatness. Brilliant. Thank you.
Thanks for posting all these videos. I have a question regarding EV's that you add/subtract on the camera and/or speed light. When would you need to do that if in order to get the right exposure you can control it via the Aperture/Shutter/ISO Triangle?
@skumail Hey first off keep at it... I don't know if you've watched all of marks videos but i would definitely suggest going through from video 1. Watch the video then experiment with your camera.
Hi Mark. You've started explaining simple things and repeating. People like emajin99 have not even read a manual and haven't seen you previous lessons. If they did ,for example Episode 16: Exposure, they could do it easily. Please stay on focus,I mean tell us good tips from expert. Sorry for that but a lot of people are waiting something interesting which you can get only after many years shooting. By the way, I like all you videos and don't want you waste time for people who can't read a manual.
@alyman77 Some people learn in different ways. That's just the way it is. I'm the type of person that can read a manual over and over all day but can't really learn anything from it. That's because I'm more of a visual/hands on learner. You can't fault people for not reading the manual. Everything that mark has put in his videos so far is in a manual, magazine, or book some where. On another note I see Digital Photography 1 on 1 as a play on words for 101 (as in basics).
that was a great explanation. i had a vauge idea of how to use the exposure guide, and i've heard people talking about 'stops' but never fully understood it until now. thanks Mark - I feel more experienced now after your explanation. keep these videos coming!
@angel9719 If you haven't already, Invest in a speedlight (flash). Preferably the type with a flash head that can be aimed to bounce off of the ceiling, etc. It makes a world of difference... It did for me!
This is a great explanation of F-stop and how to control it, I will share this with newbie photogs that I know that are just entering the M zone on there dslr dial. Now they will better understand what I was explaining on paper.
@angel9719 Since you said fluorescent light, I am guessing its a low light situation. In that case, the two most important things you need to make sure is that your white balance is set correctly and in order to reduce the blur, you would need a fast lens, or a lens with a large aperture/small f/stop number such as f2.8. Image stabilization will also help greatly. Therefore, a lens with a small f number and image stabilization is most important for your situation.
@sharkman0616 If you are going from 200 to 400 the noise will not be bad at all. You may not even notice it. As you go to 800 and up depending on the camera then you will start seeing some noise.
Thankyou for your great videos I've just discovered them and they a such a great help to us all

Do the EV's on camera/flash also work in stops?

Mark, when adding a speed flash. Will the camera light meter factor in what your flash settings are set to?
jdadub 1 year ago
@jdadub When you add a speedlight you actually control two different exposures. Check out episode 1 for a demo and explanation.

@jdadub if the flash is set to TTL.
