  • I KNOW I AM THREE YEARS LATE. BUT I HAVE THAT MONKEY.

  • omg thats crazy! i was in that scene words words words in my theater group! hahah small world

  • I hate to say this, and I don't mean to be rude, but... I stopped 51 seconds into the video and I just couldn't keep watching.

All the girls are always doing recommendations about books, and it's not that I don't like books, its just that I have so many that I've never read D:! So I stopped the video, I'm going to close my laptop, and I'm going to a well-lit room to read for a few days.

  • I can't see "words words words" anymore without thinking of the Bo Burnham song

  • You hair looks so much Kiera Knightley's in the first part of Atonement. Have you ever read the book? It's amazing <3

  • Kaylee was so cute and a tiny bit more ackward back then :P Love it~

  • WHAT?! You've met Libba Bray?! I love her books!!!

  • OHMYGOD. This is so ridiculous.

    In the good way, totally.

For my One Act in my senior year, I directed a David Ives show

    GUESS WHICH ONE!!

    Words, Words, Words.

I flippin' *love* monkeys. Especially when they type.

    This totally made my life.

As do all of the fiveawesomegirls videos... I'm so sad I came in so late, though.

  • I'm the second essay in red!

  • As in "Curve"? I loved it. You're a great writer.

  • I love David Ives. I'm sure that you'll have a great time directing one of his one acts.

I'm rereading A Great and Terrible Beauty now, because I don't remember much about the first time around other than that I loved it.

  • Yeah, I've seen it. I talked to Libba about it, it was great. xD

  • I was just waiting for one of the goats to ram the fence. I'm not sure why, you just see that happen a lot with goats.

  • I don't Atonement was that good...the story line I mean, I was lost the whole way through the middle(the wandering round france without much direction or sense of where he was going)and then the ending was just ridiculous and made the middle part just become more nonsense. I felt robbed of 3 hours of my life....:(

  • I totally agree with you! I was sooo lost through most of it and then the ending was horribly depressing. I didn't like it at all.

  • I was in words words words my freshman year. I played swift, it was really fun.

    Good luck with directing!

  • i love you

  • oww i had my earphones in and the wind killed my earss!!

  • lol read the tags

  • Rock, rock on chica

  • How cold was it in that shot where it's really windy?

  • It was about 6:30am and freezing. I thought it'd be cool to walk to the beach at 6 for when the sun comes up. o.o

  • goats are amazing... i miss mine

  • James McCavoy is sooo charming. Loved him in "Becoming Jane," which is one of my favourtie movies. Can´t wait to se "Atonement".

  • I really hope you like A Great and Terrible Beauty! I read it a couple years ago and loved it and the third part of the series just came out so I think I might re-read it now to refresh my memory. Anyway, it's a great book, so enjoy it! haha

  • For some reason I KNEW you were going to say Atonement about 5 seconds before you said it. My favorite movie too!

  • We did a one acts festival entirely of Ives work! I was in Degas C'est Moi =D

    goats ftw!

  • I love you because you're made in Washington.

    [Wait. Were you?]

  • [I was!]

  • I have been recommending 13 Little Blue Envelopes whenever anyone asks for a book recommendation and when I saw the first book I was like "Hey, that's by the woman who wrote-" and then you held up 13 Little Blue Envelopes. So great ^__^

  • You got that clapping monkey at Borders. Have you seen the one that flips over? It's awesome.

  • Haha I got it in my stocking at Christmas. :D I have a flipping something that I got forever ago. I can't remember what animal it was, though. xD

  • oh, 'words, words, words.'

you didn't ask, but here's my advice: IT'S OK TO GO FOR CHEAP MONKEY LAUGHS. have them throw poop or something. it's ok. really. i swear.

    smoore

  • OH MY GOD! I have that EXACT same clapping monkey! My little sister hates it. XD

  • You're awesome because

    1. you read 13 little blue envelopes which is awesome

    2. you read a great and terrible beauty which is also awesome

    3. you met libba bray and shannon hale who are two of my favorite authors and I'm awesomely jealous.

  • I know "Words Words Words"! One of the groups in my Theatre Production class preformed it. It's funny. "Sure Thing" from All in the the Timing is also hysterical.

  • I loved the book Austenland! I'm so jealous you got to meet Shanon Hale! :)

I also adored the movie Atonement.

    You rock. :)

  • I would totally name my goat Aberforth, but then I would probably get kind of disgusted at myself. But it would still be awesome. lol

I really need to read some Maureen Johnson!

  • a great and terrible beauty <3 i love that series.

  • No Challenge?!

    :O

    Haha...

    Goats rule.

  • AHH!

    ATONEMENT <33333

    keira knightley was snubbed :[

  • I think it's because she does so many period pieces. So Atonement was nothing new from her to the Academy. At least she was once an Oscar nominee. James was completely and utterly robbed, I say.

  • I think Joe Wright was the one who was robbed the most. At least it's up for best picture, but it's weird that the director wasn't nominated. :(

  • Oscar-wise, totally. But I just found out that he was nominated in the Best Director category for the BAFTAs, which is a pretty big deal.

  • I read an article in my local paper a few weeks ago about him. It was quite interesting.

Its strange, the even after it gets GG for Best Picture, no directing or acting, I'm not sure but I'm thinking if memory serves me correctly that it didn't get nominated for Screenplay.

I'm one of the few, literally, the didnot feel the magic from Juno, and if it wins I may just cry. :[. There's such a distinct difference in those movies. A great one, and a teen one.

  • Juno's actually one of my favorite movies, but I don't think that it should be put against such dramas when determining Best Picture.

Atonement was nominated under Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published.

  • The characters seemed to live off the of screen

and yes he was as well.

He is an interview in the past Newsweek with other Oscar nominees. :[.

  • 1. right before you said "aww those goats or so cute. i want a goat" in the video i was thinking the exact same thing!

    2. I guess i'm going to have to go see Atonement now

    3. What state do you live in that you can see an ocean that pretty? I live in NJ, and we have an ocean, but it isn't very pretty (at least not near me)

    4. I got A Great and Terrible Beauty for Christmas from my parents, but I haven't started it yet. All the comments say it is great though, so I'll have to find time

  • I live in Washington state. :)

And it is a fantastic book. I'd definitely recommend it.

  • whoa that is literally on the other side of the country! i've never been to Washington. and thanks for the feedback on the book :)

  • MY GOD.

    libba bray is amazing

i just read sweet far thing, book 3

im so jealous you bot to meet her!

    (ive read maureen johnson too!)

  • omg i love a great and terrible beauty and the other two books in the series =]

  • You never gave anyone a challenge! That's my favorite part! It's ok, I still loved it!

  • What was the challenge?

  • Atonement was such a gorgeous film. Have you read the book? McEwan's an amazing author but freaking AP English is making me not have time to read anything for fun anymore. Bah. Your hair is groovy =]

  • Yaaaaay goats xD

  • I forgot that I had wanted to see Atonement! Now I REALLY want to see it, and I don't think it's even at the theater anymore.

Aww the goats are SO cute!

  • i love Atonement too! it was amazing

  • I love goats. They're so cute. xD I want one too...

  • My friend had goats for awhile. I got to walk one of them once. That was totally awesome.

  • umm you didn't challenge anyone

  • zing!

  • I love you girls~! But kayley....arent you supposed to give one of the other girls a challenge??

ps: u girls make my days better :3

  • My sister has the book Red and i as to read it soooooooooo bad! Hayley Hoover is the only reason i was to read it! umm I really hope i spelled her name right. Oops if i didn't.

  • i know ive said this before, but im gonna say it again. your videos remind me SO MUCH of the vlogbrothers - esp Hank. which is, obviously, an incredibly awesome thing :)

  • Thank you so much! :)

  • youre welcome :) i promise ill try not to say it every time you make a video, cause im sure that would get annoying.

  • I agree with everything you said about Atonement!

    :]

  • how fantastic is A Great and terrible beauty!

  • David Ives! Yay! I Love "Variations On The Death Of Trotsky"! It Makes Me So Happy!

  • James McAvoy is love.

watch starter for 10. so great.

  • A Great and Terrible Beauty is AMAZING!

    SOO good!!!!

And so is Maureen Johnson, of course.

Isn't it so cool that Shannon Hale and Libba Bray are touring together?!? My bookstore friend told me about that, and I got VERY excited. They're both terrific, are they not?

  • And I LOVE Atonement too!

  • Really random, but I love your hair. And shower curtain, that is an awesome backdrop right there.

  • Why thank you. :)

  • Oh, I want a goat named Aberforth as well!

I loved A Great and terrible Beauty so muchh. I am so jealous that you met Libba Bray!! Lucky you!!

  • Ah! I'm so jealous!! I love Libba Bray!! A Great and Terrible Beauty is the best book ever!!!

    P.S. "My monkey friend and I."* Sorry..couldn't resist =D

    <3333

  • hehe goats are adorable. You girls make me want to read more books, which is AWESOME, but everytime i take something out of the library i forget to return it, and get angry emails from my local librarians, and that's NOT AWESOME. Keep up the vids, i look forward to them :3

    -Em

  • when i was in high school i directed the varations on the death of trotsky, or whatever it was called.

if you like ives you should read Christorfor Durang. Hes like ives but more twisted

  • DAVID IVES FTW. I did "Sure Thing" last year.

No challenge, and you didn't say why today is awesome.

    PUNISHMENT.

  • I SAID WHY TODAY WAS AWESOME.

You just like punishing me, Leah.

  • another great book is Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

  • OMG That is my favorite book! I only saw this comment by chance, which makes this all the more awesome!

  • lol, The monkey claps, nice.

  • I really love your flowered shower curtain.

    ..aaaand Challenge? Rough day?

  • Is it really not in there?

    Because I totally recorded it.

    Shitshitshit.

  • "Look, the monkey claps! Yayyy clapping monkey!" ahahhahaha. Those were some pretty awesome goats. And I've gotta agree, Atonement was a GREAT film.

  • I played Kafka in Words, Words, Words.

    Yay goats!

  • Your monkey is amazing. =)

And so is 13 Little Blue Envelopes! Very good book. I haven't read the other Maureen Johnson book you recommended- but it will now go on my list. Girl at Sea, was it called?

  • My HS did One Acts this fall. I directed a Jonathan Rand play called "Hard Candy" which was really funny. Jonathan Rand is Awesome.

Our Sophomore class did "Sure Thing" which is also from "All in the Timing"

    Hope your play does well.

  • I did Hard Candy when I was in 7th grade. I loved it!

  • My friend performed two David Ives one-act plays in theatre last year and this year and aaaahhh they were totally amazing. One was a comedy of errors with a bell (the name escapes me) and the other was In A Philidelphia. At least I think that's what it's called, shakespeare is eating my brain at the moment.

  • Was that jumping girl named Gloria Goldcamp? She looked an awful lot like my long-lost cousin.

  • OMG DAVID IVES IS MY HERO. I LOVE YOU.

  • omg great & terrible beauty is one of my favorite books ever! your going to / already love it!!! hahahha
