Total Contrast, Takes A Little Time - this tune is s hot today as it was when it first came out. Why can't today's artist make quality tunes like this - have to always look to USA artist because UK accept too much sh...t music as great songs and win awards over MJ, Patti Label, etc etc. But funnily enough they never make it in US and these artists don't seem to wonder why! BECASUE YA NOT THAT GREAT- so would not happen in America. Man the 80's R&B were hot and always will be.
just spent a day pulling out all these types of old skool funk tunes to put onto one disc.memories in bristol at the late "busbys"night club, mid 80s onwards, dancing the night away(i wont to go back!!!).ive pulled out 38 tunes; nu shooz-i cant wait. aurra-you and me tonight(that rattled my brain, lol).the controolers-stay. skipworth and turner-thinking about your loving and so much more.
Goldmine (Canvey Island), Flicks (Dartford), Jacksons (Staines), Safari Club (Windsor), Centre (Slough), Belvederes (Ascot) Caister weekender, Bournemouth weekender - they were the days. Cortina/XR3i with yr funk sunstrip and club stickers in the windows, Robbie on Saturday dinner times, Bluebird records, Boogie Times records, Maze, Roy Ayers, JFM and the pirates - they were the days
.....like a magnets attraction.....all heads turned.........!! Yeah, and they are all thinking the same thing.............WTF is a woman in a sequin dress doing in a pub with a pool table.
Great song though, my sister had this on 12' when I was a kid, and I fell in love with that 'old skool' kind of music. This was the song that started if for me.
This may sound like a bad joke or.... something of that nature, but OK so you missed the classy lady at the end. Just go back in there and get the blonde. I'm just kidding :)
Remember seeing this band perform this song at Ilford town hall, while performing they were throwing 7" vinyl versions of the song into the crowd,I got one, and still have it!,lol.
I made it to the Goldmine myself a couple of times but mostly spent these years at Valentines in East Sussex. DJ at the time was a good friend and we always got this played every Saturday. Play the album all the time and it is still as goog now as it was at launch. Soul at its UK best!
I'm annoyed that this group didn't get the recognition deserved. In fact none of this great 80s club music was ever properly promoted at the time yet it is leagues ahead of the fodder that is being worshipped today. Anyway at least I own all their 12" releases.
One of my favourite 80s R&B tracks! I must have been around 13-14 years old back then. Now 25 years later listening to old school R&B, I am still lovin' it. Best times man, best times.
One of the best records ever made...I now live in Sydney Australia but this brings back happy memories of growing up in London and nights out at "The Best Disco In Town" Paradise Lost, Benjys, Shakes, The Goldmine at Canvey and The Caister Soul Weekenders.
yes suh!!! I like it like this, remember when this first came out in the 80's, i played it ovah an ovah tryin to figure out what tha brotha meant by "takes a little time", now that I'm older I now know exactly what he's talkin about, this is still one of my all-time favorites.
Great production by Steve Harvey mid 80's and the boy can sing for real .Steve packed up and flu to the USA to become one of the biggest producers over there.he had some huge hits himself .but this was something to be recond with.
Bad boy tune .for real that synth base was bang on tight as fuck.
I've had this on a cassette(remember them!) since 1985 and never knew who sang it, and have been trying to find out for a long time! Thanks for posting, it brings back some memories!
Remember seeing these guys on the old Channel 4 Soul Train programme - used 2 b on a Friday night about 6pm - circa '85. Haven't heard of this song for years but Googled them once and found absolutely nothing. Thanx for posting - great to see the vid.
It is a great song and I was in the US up until 1986 through 1989 (England). Anyway I have not heard it even once until late 2000. I guess Urban radio weren't too excited about this joint.
He was annoying? BET in the USA played him a couple of times. I read in Billboard magazine that Billy Ocean produced a couple of songs including this one for him as well. Coming from you, now I think I know why his songs never "charted" in the US. I still, however would like to hear "Sunshine" one more time. It's been over 23 years.
This is a fantastic song!! I havent heard it in years. Thank you so much for posting it!!! :o) It is people like you that make You Tube the fantastic place which it is!! :o)
Dunno about R&B charts, but it made it to number one on the dance charts in the U.S., sandwiched between Phyllis Nelson's "I Like You" and Alisha's "Baby Talk".
It hit #80 back in 1985 on the R&B charts. Their biggest US hit was back in 1987 with a track they performed on UK's "Solid Soul" called "Kiss" getting no higher than #55.
The lead singer stopped singing completely until recently. He now can be found most weeks singing in Pizza Pomodero in London-liverpool street, sometimes with his wife Mia.
JD as he is known now although a bit more heavier still sings and sounds the bollocks; He does a fantstic Keni burke- 'Rising To The Top' as well as Luther and other soul numbers.
He can also be found singing in clubs and pubs in Essex and London, i c him most wednesdays.
Kick ass old skool video! wow. Why didn't I hear of these guys back in the day? Well, now that I know about "total contrast", I will be dancing all night long for many nights to come.
