I'm planning a Rover V8 swap into my '79 924. Not sure I'm going to go that far... but at least I know it'll sound sweet!

It's what I had at the time. Got it as payment for fixing an old guy's MR2 - had a good body, but not much else! I kinda preferred the 924's simpler lines over the 924S/944, to be honest.

Anyway, traded it for a bunch of MG parts and now have a '74 VW 1303S to play with instead of the Porsche.

Yes, i found this out for sure shortly after posting, i posted it as 944 because that's what this was described as elsewhere on this site. I am no expert on Porsche stock and thank everyone who corrected me. We live and learn.
