Richards LED with his arms because he was facing the guy he was checking directly. This prevents injury to both the checker and the "checkee" since no elbows, knees, or hips are involved. This was a clean hit due to the speed of the developing play, and the context of the play. Note that no power play ensued. This alone recognizes that the referees who made the no-call have seen more games than you ever will.

1. Richards doesnt fight alot and if he does he takes off his helment. Didn't have much time to that there did he?

2. He didn't take a "run" he stopped skating about 5 feet before he hit him. Clean hit.

3. He didn't turtle. Thats not Richards. If you watched the game you would have known he was at the end of a shift. How could you not tell that from how tired he was...
