You know what is strange? I never didn't know Liam, I never met Liam, he wasn't even my favourite singer (though he was up there). Yet, still, at least once a week, since he passed, I look at one of these priceless videos and wish he was still with us. What a special man he was.
The punkfish is right. In fact, they are probably here already, but maturing. We are remembering the fruits of Liam's nearly 60 years of exoerience. In 1960, he sang a good rousing song, as a sound journeyman. By the noughties, he was a master, who got inside a song and made it his own story. His own legtacy is eternal. His heirs have yet to grow into their legacy, but they will. God bless you Liam; rest in peace.
You can see in this performance that he's well aware "the strong rope of death" is twining about his neck. Less than two years later he was gone... "While this heart, once so gay, will be cold... " A good reminder.
We will never have the likes of liam again ,the dubliners the fureys, the dublin city ramblers, the wolfe tones, johnny mcevoy, christy moore, all dying away ,and who will replace them?
@tillyireland You know what the great thing is though? Someone will. Someone will come along eventually that is up to this standard. The onus is on us to just stick around long enough to see it. I'm 24 and not sure I'll be able to. But that's the beautiful thing about music/the nature and act of performing... Greatness begets greatness. So don't worry... There will be someone to carry the torch. We just gotta find 'em.
Here's to Liam. You, Makem. and your brothers carried traditional music through some tough times and are largely, but not solely responsible for it being alive and well today. No senseless argument from me. Farewell to an exceptional musician.
God bless you Liam and Tom and Pat and Tommy M. You were the lads that took Irish music to America and the world and shook the barley. hopefully some young lads will fill your shoes and carry on, but it doesn't look promising at this point in time.
@Redrowan2000 I don't think you know what you're talking about. There is a wealth of Irish music to be heard and enjoyed. The Clancys were only the first ones to make Irish folk music cool and countless musicians, myself being one, still keep it very much alive and well. If you're so worried about the health of Irish folk, go and support the musicians and keep it well. Its up to you and we, the musicians to keep alive.

"FILL THEIR SHOES" I did not say there are none out there. Don't make my conclusions for me as you obviously don't know what you are talking about.
