There is a version of this song sung to a different tune by Finbar Furey. The tune he uses is a traditional drinking song (learnt over 60 years ago) . On the offchance that someone who is familiar with his version might know the orginal song which started -

"Mar bheath uaim a chairde bhi gradhmhur fado"
