All biological tests suffer from false positives and false negatives. HIV testing is no different. The vast majority of reslts are correct, a few have another explanation.

@olga2415, I have never heard of Gallo being sued. I do know that he was investigated because they thought he might have stolen credit for the discovery of the virus. A group of French scientists actually discovered it a year before, but since the French doctors weren't as prestigious as Gallo they didn't get as much publicity. They later reached an agreement and Gallo was cleared of all charges in the investigation.

Also, while some vaccines do have risks or side effects like all drugs or medical procedures they're not as common as most anti-vaccine people like to make them seem. The chances of someone getting H.I.V from a needle stick, is simply preposterous as H.I.V is known to die when it comes into contact with a variety of substances, it is a very fragile virus. It is more likely that the person with whom has been infected, does not want you to know that they may have inadvertently infected themselves through direct contact, injections sites etc.

@olga2415, I have never heard of Gallo being sued. I do know that he was investigated because they thought he might have stolen credit for the discovery of the virus. A group of French scientists actually discovered it a year before, but since the French doctors weren't as prestigious as Gallo they didn't get as much publicity. They later reached an agreement and Gallo was cleared of all charges in the investigation.

Also, while some vaccines do have risks or side effects like all drugs or medical procedures they're not as common as most anti-vaccine people like to make them seem. Also, I'm sure you'd be the first in line to get a rabies vaccine if you were bitten by a rabid animal; you do know that disease is almost 100% fatal once symptoms appear, only way to prevent it is from a vaccine shortly after being bitten or scratched.
