It happened more than fifty years ago and this is one of the greatest performances in track history. Absolutely and utterly phenomenal. Still the NZ NR and the fastest ever run on a grass track. Considering the Kenyan champs were held on dirt/grass tracks until the late 80s, this is even more incredible. Whitey was hard. deano needs to see this to understand why Snell was the greatest ever. And let's not forget - five major championships contested, five gold medals won.

It shouldn't be considered the 800 wr if it wasn't an 800m race. Official wr's are set at the finish line, not at a split.

Could still be a world grass record? Grass is easily 1sec per lap slower than standard tartan. Plus nobody pacing out till 600m like the last 20yrs! Sub 1:42 easily in todays times!
