  • Dammit - quit talking French over their answers!! This is a common problem with footage of British bands from that era when they were more popular elsewhere, such as France, or in the case of Genesis, Belgium and Italy in the earlier days.

  • @Ghoopty

Oh dear, why not learn some French instead...

  • @PeterSpaeter96 Well that is an option, I suppose......I just wish I could make out what the hell they were saying.

  • @PeterSpaeter96 I didn't want to have to learn a whole other language just to find out what an interviewer is saying on a single YouTube post.

  • FAMILY: then as now - inimitable and in a class all of their own.

forty years after the fact it`s still fun watching today`s listeners trying to pigeonhole them: "prog"? PROG my ASS!

  • @shotdonkey 'prog' to me means progressing beyond simple rock........to me they're prog in a good sense, they wrote [songs].

  • Yes, "progressive" in the true sense of the word - at the time I seem to recall bands like this were called "underground".

  • Family prog? Well not exactly, but very progressive chord structures and arrangements. Not typical hard rock, even when they were hard.

    wordofgord

  • Saw Family Live n Glasgow many years ago...Verdict!....Don't get much better...Cheeer's Man Great post...Billy...

  • What a band this was eh? Sitting here,2009, watching their films here is a treat

....purity, teeth and guts and balls and brains and wide open energy, things taken for granted then are so rare now.

  • @itchcock1 hi, good comment, you put it right on.

  • Would you call them prog? They do seem to get categorised like that a lot, but I've never associated them with the capes and wizards of Yes or the whimsy of Genesis. I see them as an extremely hard rock band capable of super-charged folk, eg Holding The Compass.

  • @AK2927 - in the early 70s it was all prog - ELP, Black sabbath, Zep, Yes, Purple, Ten years after, Family, Free - it was all prog - and it still is (what's prog rock??)

  • Thanks for seconding me! :-)

  • The best. Prog. Band. Ever.

  • u r so right the greatest ever

  • John Weider, great guitarist...
