I've always loved this movie and this was one of my two favourite songs from the soundtrack, the other one being the traditional song Phillipe and Isabeu were dancing to in the barn. XD
I was too young to appreciate this movie when it was new. I embraced it sixteen years later at age twenty-one. While it took me a moment to adjust to the anachronism of the music, I discovered in the next moment what geniuses Alan Parsons and Andrew Powell were to create a homogenous blend between the majesty of traditional orchestration, synth pop and mainstream rock. (Also, Ian Bairnson's guitar kicks ass.)
Sorry, but I like the rhythm section from 0:59 on. It beats most recent pop scores.
@MrSirDel Yep, Alan Parsons is one of my alltime favorite producers. His role in recording the score was immediately noticeable for me. :) And, I could think of worse themes for a radio show.
@MrSirDel Absolutely. I grew up with music like this, so it's really a part of me. Although I was guided to it through a synthesizer forum, I would've felt foolish not to say something.
Alan Parsons did some of the music for this movie as well. Great story, great acting, great cast and cinematography. Matthew Brodrick an unlikely casting worked out well.
la musica es fantastica ma canta y me motiva muxisimo asta me da ganas de aprender a tocar x solo tocar esta banda sonora de lady halcon ,, segur sin soys geniales
This theme is amazing, but I think only the first minute of it goes with the atmosphere of the movie...and I think the whole thing would sound a looot better with a more medieval-like arrangement and instruments.
love to be no. 207 that like that song and movie. Salute to all the fans of that kind of movies and music of the romantics and powerfull 80's. Who didn't like to be a knight and fight for the love of the lady of his dreams with that soundtrack. Labyrinth, tangerin dreams, alan parsons, mike oldfield, vangelis,... aunque hubiera otros grupos de mejor calidad como pink floyd, peter gabriel, king crimson, focus,... salud y saludos a todos. And thank you for sharing that nostalgic remember.

I love this movie, just love it, so heart warming and inspiring. Many old movies have themes that just say it all and remind you of the good times you had when you were young, and this theme is certainly no exception. Makes you feel good inside you want to dance.
@NeverDoubt1 I also love what Richard Donner and Alan Parsons did here. Orchestral music didn't exist in medieval times but everyone thinks that's the only music that is appropiate for period movies. I like very much experiments like Chariots of fire and this movie that try to create new emotions using different kind of music. I'm very sorry that this kind of experimentation is now considered goofy and that all modern soundtracks sound almost like the same with very little variations.
From 0-1:00 is perfection. They really nailed those Renaissance fantasy themes putting the viewer in that time period. Wish it didn't get so up beat afterward, the movie is about sorrow but I guess adventure needs its themes too.
@waldentree Word. Not to generalize an entire decade, but I miss the creative, optimistic, colourful fantasy and sci-fi zeitgeist of the 80s. There are a few nice examples of which some of that stuff swapped over into the 90s a little, but in total they just made me feel bad, it was all so dark, brooding, cold and uninspired, filled with shitty techno music and boring action flicks. Heck, even the 2000s had way more to offer than the 90s.
This is one of my favorite fantasy movies from the 1980s, along with the Gilliam trilogy ("Time Bandits", "Brazil", "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen"), "Labyrinth" and "Willow" to name a few. What truly enlivened the film was Matthew Broderick's unsinkable humor and constant running comments to God. :)
haha you are the first person i see mentioning al of my favourite childhood movies (although i was born in the late 80's, and saw these movies in the early nineties, i still think of them as childhood moies :)
One of the 80's best fantasy movies! it was a golden age when people had this, Excalibur, Willow, Dark Crystal, Legend, Labyrinth, Princess Bride, Time Bandits, Brazil, Heavy Metal, Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Totoro, fire and Ice, Return to Oz, and more.
I agree but what about Jerry Goldsmith's score? i'm into classical scores and whatever scores there are. And what about the score in Dark Crystal, Princess Bride, Willow and more fantasy movies of the time?
Lo vedo e lo rivedo ogni anno da quando avevo 5 anni e ogni volta c'e la stessa emozione! Bellissimo le favole aiutano ad affrontare il duro cammino della vita
But as much as I want to say I enjoyed the rest, I didn't. It had some good parts even at the end, but the electronic peices in the song throw me off a bit too much.
Up until 0:57 I really love it, I really do!!!!...But after that I am really so sorry to all the fans but I don`t really like it...Altough I think this film is an amazing classic...And Michelle Pfeiffer will be forever immortalized as the beautiful Isabeau d'Anjou

the first part is really neat...then, oh then, that godawful disco theme kicks in at 1:01....oh, just make it stop.....please, re-score this movie...i love 'I, Robot' and almost every other parsons song, but this was just awful...should have had tangerine dream come in and re-do it like they did with 'Legend'
This is one of the best movie scores ever. I've watched the flick many times. Also own Excalibur. Originally on VHS, now have both on Dvd. Think E-bay Marius !
The intro to the song was great, very mystical and entrancing, but when the pop beat comes in, it changes the mood and somewhat reduces the overall potential greatness of the song...
WHAT DA FUCK this truly does suck. AND u know what Eric Serra is awful. This is rated one of the worst scores ever, go ask the folks as Film Score Monthly!!!
I'm not interested in what a bunch of fools think. Given what is popular I'm not surprised that this was criticised. This is a well written score, anyone even remotely interested in music will agree.
I salute you. It's funny how nobody bashes Chariots of fire, when it has a similar soundtrack which has absolutely nothing to do with the time era of the film. Scarface, The Right Stuff, Firestarter and plenty of other have similar types of music.
But critisizing Ladyahawke because its music doesn't suit a movie set in the middle ages is what the drones all do.
