I am a hard working fucked over man.............Love this film, one of the very best of the 70's, grossly over looked........as a union man i feel everyone who works should see this.
Pryor was a GOD of comedy, but it's a shame he didn't do more straight dramatic roles as he's terrific in this. Does anyone know what the Ry Cooder song is called? Its amazing.
They do not make movies like this anymore when actors were just plain cool and real. no pretentious bullshit like the garbage they put out today. Great movie.
Bought the Blue Collar DVD very recently. Although made well over 30 years ago it is still fresh. An excellent movie, made all the better by Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band's contribution. Ta for posting this.
@poughkeepsiejohn1 'The Mascara Snake' is Beefheart's cousin, Victor Hayden. (Look it up). But - a squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag IS Fast and Bulbous. Also: tapered. Also: a tin teardrop.
Saw this in theaters when it was released. An amazing piece of work. I stumbled across the soundtrack on vinyl in a "Peaches" on Schaeffer Road in Dearborn ages ago and didn't buy it. One of my great regrets in life. If anyone knows of it's whereabouts on MP3, please for the sake of Pryor, Beefheart, Cooder lovers, post it here.
A little research here. This is The Checker Motors Co. located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It made Checker Cabs here until about 1982. After that, it made auto parts for GM. But by 2008, it was hurt by the recession and the dropping auto sales. And on top of that, Checker's CEO was a victim of Bernie Madoff's scam losing millions. Finally, in 2010, Checker filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
By the way, the film has a disclaimer at the end saying that what happens here is totally fictional.

@whiteknight4879 Any movie with a character named "Dogshit Miller" is an instant classic! And Pryor was worthy of an Oscar Nom for this one: his best dramatic role.
I drive by part of that once in a while its mostly shut down. Richard Pryor was leaning against the wall and guy I kind of know who kind of looks like him said he went up to him with a camera and Pryor wouldn't turn around and finally goes,"WOULD YOU HURRY UP AND TAKE THAT FUCKING PICTURE." funny shit
@scalpsie---Thanks for this hard-to-find gem...why not make it less hard to find; throw some tags on here like "Captain Beefheart" and "Ry Cooder" and you will get a ton more views....just sayin'.
The song's called Hard Workin' Man, written by Cooder and featuring his old employer Beefheart on vocals. You can find the released soundtrack version around here (with its slightly watered down lyrics).
@UncleWaldemar Van Vliet in fine voice here...Coaxed out of retirement in the Desert by Ry... Nitzche wanted someone who sounded like Howlin' Wolf...Ry said ''I know just the man''

Captain Beefheart died today. He was 69. It was multiple sclerosis. This probably explains why he retired from music so young.
RIP Mascara Snake...or is it Fast and Bullbous?
