Just listened to the 50+ recordings of this piece by various orchestra on Spotify. There's not a single recording where the trumpets do what the soprano does here. It's a shame really. There are so many tasteless covers and versions of all sorts of different songs and pieces, I was sure there would be a similarly insane 'take' on the end of La Rejounissance...
While I agree it was very clever, am I missing the point of the "chess?" Is there some significance or is there not a specific point, as it seems to be going right over my head!
The piece is a part of a complete concert which tells a story about the fight between good and evil - a concept developed by the conductor, Allan Withington. This particular part is the fight or endgame.

I'm playing this for my sister's wedding, it's not so bad, Carnival of Venice is worse and even that's not too bad
