  • nice radio

  • This console is equal to a old person being brought back to life, truly vintage

    and well worth the repairs.

  • Very cool. Looks good. Did you get it all working? I have a couple of Philco roll top radios from this era, but I removed the internals (without doing any damage, all came out nice and easy with 4 screws) and set them on a shelf... and I put new speakers in them (without altering the boxes) and I'm using them as a stereo desk speaker setup for my computer.

This might make you cringe even more, if you're a purist restoration kinda guy ....

same model you have ---- watch?v=z4WBTaz4NvY

  • Dont you know what a radio is boy? ..........Ed Linsey circa Twilight Zone episode.1950s or 60s

  • @rEdf196 Love that episode!

  • i just got a philco 42-1013 in working order could you tell me what that black block is that sits on the shelf to the left of the main unit on the back i have holes in the shelf where one used to be but the unit works without it

  • Be sure to use a dim bulb tester when you plug it in, after replacing that dry rotted power cord, just in case one or some of the electrolytic power supply capacitors are shorted. This can save you in the valuable cost of damaging the power transformer, choke or output transformer.

  • @Xerox6085I I'd agree with the dim bulb method, but I'd bet every one of those caps need to be replaced no matter what. Par for the course.

  • Fabulous record player!

  • Hey! It's "MY" model! Looking for a speaker, ya got one?

  • @gregoryagogo Just the one that's in it.... and no, you can't have it! :) I do remember seeing some dealers & repair shops with them for sale when I was searching online for a tube replacement. Do a search on the make & model number of the radio, I'm sure you'll find something. Good luck!

  • @rataMacue22 Not worried about finding tubes... I can't believe I'm responsible for that speaker being lost... I can kick myself now!

  • hmm aint gonna fit that in my pocket v.v
