  • I commend you for this. My Jenday Conure "Rodrick" will never poop on the serviette I provide, instead he holds it so he can do it on my shoulder or on my chair.

  • my sun conure is almost a year old and is decently potty trained, he poops when i say poop (most of the time) and i am holding him over the garbage, but how do i break his old habits? every time i open the cage it seems like first thing he does is climb out and poop right on the carpet, its very annoying because i cant get him to stop and it has become the norm for him. also he attempts to poop over people when he is being held, but like i said.... attempts. how do i get him to stop doing this?

  • @AllGucciPrint you can try to give him a treat just as he comes out of the cage, then get him to step up on your hand, then get him to poop once the bird is done the treat this may take several times to try to change his routine habit.(may have to try a few diffrent things to throw him off his routine maybe a favorite toy may also work)

  • @rockybeach1 ill start using some of his favorite treats, thanks. i just like to keep his cage open when im in the room, he always sneaks out and poops when im not looking. he much rather poop on my floor then in his cage lol

  • I tried this trick on my girlfriend......it doesnt work :(

  • I did that with my conure, but I realy didn't think he was, so I didn't put him in his cage, and he pooped on meh. :3

  • very cute ^ ^ my conure was potty trained with the sink instead of the napkin :)

  • okay i got a cinnamon green cheek conure about a week ago and shes already very attached to me and loves me to pet her and my mom HATES when she poops on the floor or anywhere for that matter.i would like to potty train her but what if she just doesnt go over the napkin?and ur like waiting and waiting...i would rather not stand there for an hour lol.

  • @minuman1223

that's very good, many people wish their birds would do that. did you teach him that or does he just do it?

  • wow poop on command! cool!

  • could u PLEASE....... tell me how to train my yeelow sided conure please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @applelack09

Thanks, basically like the video shows hold them over the napkin when you think they have to go say go potty give them verbal phrase when they do the task they will soon learn.Best of luck with your bird

  • @rockybeach1

How do you know when they are going to poop? Are you able to train him so that when you are not home, he will still go poop at the same spot somewhere like how doggy is trained? Thanks!!

  • LOLLLLLLLLLL, that is just precious! I have a Male Greencheek named Chi Chi! Thanx for posting the video!

  • thats soo cool i just bought mine. HOw did u do that... Can u teach me. I have two sun conures

  • Thanks, basically like the video shows hold them over the napkin when you think they have to go say go potty give them verbal phrase when they do the task they will soon learn.Best of luck with your baby.

  • What happens if your wearing a white shirt and a baby yells "I have to go poop!?"

    Lol that would be funny

  • Well done!

  • I've trained my quaker to poop on command. Everytime I saw him pooping I exclaimed "poopy!" in the most excited voice. After a few days he began to make the association. The next step was to give the prompt while holding him over a waste bucket/paper towel...

  • thats fantastic alot less cleaning around the house.

  • He's showing consistency and positive reinforcement is how to teach. Every 15 - 20 min. with the verbal que upon the poop followed by the positive reinforcement 'good poop!'.

  • That's a good trick. but it doesnt show us anything of how to acutally toilet train our birds. This is just you showing off.

  • Thats amazing. Great job!

  • You should submit this to Brawny as a testimonial.

  • whats brawney??

  • It's a very absorbent brand of paper towels. I personally recommend it.

  • I'm a bounty man myself.

  • yeah im geting a sun on tuesday how do i teach her how to poop some where other than on me :P plz let me know

  • basically like the video shows hold them over the napkin when you think they have to go say go potty give them verbal phrase when they do the task they will soon learn.Best of luck with your baby.

  • Hey sorry i couldn't make the video of my bird yet but im getting there my comp was acting all weird ill make soon though

  • My conure is old >.> he/she is about 7+ years old

Wonder if the "Can't teach an old dog new tricks" myth applies for birds also

  • How did you teach that? That's so cool! Nice bird you have too.

  • thanks, like the video more or less.

    Do you have a bird?

  • No but i want to get one :)

  • cool

  • yea i have a dusky headed conure, shes around 6 or 7. shes really nice, but poops everywhere

  • i only had about two birds before when i was ten and fully understoond them but i didnt potty train them it seemed it was very difficult

  • at 10 thats a huge job to do,most people don't train there bird to b potty trained

just wanted people to see even small parrots can learn easily.

  • oh but now im trying to potty train my two ducks but so far its pretty difficult

  • potty training a one duck is a task but two

    best of luck to you.

  • thank you

  • It's a great idea to teach a bird to potty. Some say that it it unhealthy for them to poop on command because it damages their cloaca. I figured out the solution; everytime you see your bird eating food, an hour later, THEN tell it to poop. If it eats twice in 1 day, then tell it to poop 2 hours later. This gives it time to digest the food, and will not damage the cloaca. If it doesn't eat at all, DONT tell it to poop.

  • I only tell the bird to poop only when I know it has consumed food based on what it has eaten or drank and you have to know how fast your bird digestive system is.

  • yes its all good until chichi poops on ur dinner napkin and u go to wipe your mouth! hahaha

  • If you want to avoid the possible cloaca problems then teach them a place they can pooh anytime they want to pooh.

My bird (Skittles) was taught simply by me understanding what she was about to do when she "tensed up." She'd do that and I'd run her to the cage.

Now that she's flighted, she just flies to her cage to pooh. Birds are very intelligent creatures so potty training can be pretty simple if you learn to read the "signs" and you don't mind running all day long for a while, lol.

  • @2skittles4u

Wow.. That's great work.. ! how long did you have to run her to the cage for her to remember that?

Also, when you say she "tensed up", do you mean you taught her to hold up her poo when she's about to go for it?

  • @dragonfist87

Birds just naturally get this stiff, tensed up stance right before they pooh. Kind of like a little extra "push" to get that pooh worked down so it can drop out. It's at this exact point that I'd jump up from my chair (if I was sitting) and run to the cage and place Skittles on the cage. She'd hold back from poohing, in my guess, because I was ripping through the house, lol. It bought me the few seconds that it took me to get her to the cage.

    I hope that helps!

  • @2skittles4u

and how did she learn to poop in the cage but not in ur hand while you were holding her?

    Thanks!! =D

  • @dragonfist87

It was just repetition of constantly running her to the cage every time she had to pooh. She eventually got the "hint" and started flying on her own to the cage whenever she had to pooh. It only took about a month if memory serves correctly. Maybe less. I know it was a WHOLE LOT EASIER than I ever dreamed it could be! Skittles used to sleep with me in bed at night too. This gave me the chance to get her to her cage for her morning pooh before she even woke up. That helped.

  • @2skittles4u A friend of mine told me the exact same suggestion, except try making note of the time they do it, and how long before they do it again, and that apparently you can set a timer to warn you and do it pre-emptively to save you running. :)

  • will it work on my sun conure hes a year old in december

  • yes it will work if you are willing to train your bird, you can train them at any age

  • It is so wonderful when a bird is potty trained. Our blue crown is a rehome so we don't know if she had a command word. We have had her a year. She is 7 years old. But she only goes when she is on her cage and she lets us know when she needs to go back. We no longer have to wear special clothing over our clothing and anyone can hold her. Yay!

  • thats fantastic it sure makes clean ups alot easier, thanks for your story I really enjoyed it.

  • How do you train it to do that? I want to train my 3-4 week old nanday conure!

  • basically like the video shows hold them over the napkin when you think they have to go say go potty give them verbal phrase when they do the task they will soon learn.Best of luck with your baby.

  • they only go when they have to go also in the cage they go freely.I monitor there intake and know there system it is okay but I understand your concern.thanks for your input.

  • actually i found some discussion where someone actually has a parrot which has been potty trained. he has severe cloaca problems...

its exactly this sort of forced 'go poopy' command, which is not good i think.

so please be careful everyone :)

  • there is much debate over the fact if its healthy to potty train a bird.

a lot of people claim that its dangerous for the bird, that they can damage their cloaca if they poop on command.

im not saying this or that is better, but please do some more research on this subject. (as im doing now :))

  • Simple solution... dont train them to do it on command. Mine is toilet trained differently.

Instead of this guys version... every time you see your bird doing a poop, say "POOP". They will associate the word with the action. Next you teach them where to do it, once they learn the word. You do this by placing them over the object when they show signs they want to go and say poop. Mine flies back to her playgym to do it. Its the same concept as with puppys. :) I'll do a video on how one day.

  • hey did u do the vid yet?

  • how do u do that?

do you catch them as they're about to go?

i have had birds for quite some time now and i still haven't learned this.

  • yes you start out that way, phrase them when they do the task and eventually they get to know the routine to go ob the napkin, its nice know more mess.

  • I have a 7 year old African Senegal Parrot, do you think that he is too old to potty train like that?

  • I don't think its ever to old to learn, there quite smart should be able to learn.

  • REALLY good bird. 5 stars

  • thanks she is a great little bird

  • This is awesome! I raise greencheeks of all mutations and will send this to my new parents. How did you do it? Love all your videos so keep them coming!

  • We have potty trained our Sun Conure and it is a big relief knowing he isn't going to mess until we tell him to "go poo" in the approved zones. Makes that element of having a bird all the better! Funny how many people don't even realize you can train them like this.

  • yes your right most people don't realize that you can potty train a parrot and its very simple to do.I think it is one of the best things you can do for you and the bird.

  • how did you do this??? Thats such a great thing to be able to do...whats the secret?

  • basically like the video patience and knowing your bird

  • Very cool. You should make a training video!

  • Hello i have sun conure 3 month old , he or she very ncie and i like my bird :D my english not perf but i want to ask u if u think i can teach my parrot to do that ?

  • yes you sure can in time be patient and good luck

  • Hello i have sun conure 3 month old , he or she very ncie and i like my bird :D my english not perf but i want to ask u if u think i can teach my parrot to do that ?

she are very action bird she cant just stand on my hand so i just say : pups / go pups ' go pups bird ' antil she is make pups ? and then isay good bird and give them food for bird ? she will learn in the end ? this the practis i should do ?

  • yes be patience and make it game that is fun.

  • Great videos! We've had our conure for 1 week now and althought we've taught him how to do a few things, he seems a little stubborn and doesn't seem to want to learn new tricks. Guess it takes great patience.

  • she was fast 2 weeks each bird is diffrent

  • how long did it take to teach chi chi to do that?

  • mango good going, it sure nice when they do this a lot less work cleaning up.

  • Yup. It works, especially in the morning when birdie wakes up. He sits on my finger and I say "go putie" and he wiggles and puts a green statue on the napkin! Hubbies bird does it into the trash can!

  • WOW!. This video Needs more views. You know how to train pets well. The length of the video is just enough, packs the punch and all those who own birds should watch this one. I fav this cause it really opened my mind.. animals are smarter too.. may be I am more dumb! LOL! Keep posting more please.

  • My green cheek Conure is 1 year old, do you think I could teach her this?

    How do I do it?

  • yes you can teach them at any age, after you take your bird out of the cage first try ever 10 mins or so hold over napkin praise bird once they do this even atreat may help speed process then wean of treat later.

    Good luck with your gcc

  • thanks!
