dude your views on quick time event video games is lame, lol... that is not fan, its barely interactive, we ve came such a long way in gaming technology that i think going back to games in a dragon s lair fashion would be going back in a bad way.
You have the most intelligent reviews I have ever seen, even better than the paid magasines people get, or the 'professional' websites. Top marks to you.
Is it possible to beat Star Trek Borg with out being assimilated? I only ask because of the last clip you played of the away team beaming back without the player having been borgified.
I think the problem with "interactive movies" back in the day was that the movies all used pre filmed footage. Witch sevearly limited what they could do. Games like Shenmu and Heavy Rain have an advantage in that there scenes are generated real time, so they can have a lot of differant animations without balooning out the file size.
The amount of choices in this game are actually really inpressive given the time.
Blue Ray has Java run time on it, so it can do a lot more than DVD.
very nice reviews mate, i used to love some of these fmv game i even enjoyed the x files one which didnt get high marks the best has to be gabrial knight 2 tho, i think ill check ou that casebook game looks intresting
I think this was indeed a great informative review. I very mutch enjoyed watching it and after dong so went on ebay to order a copy. This video introduced me to this game and after finding out there also is a Klingon themed game sutch a this one I am very intested in seeing you doing a review on that one aswell. :)
I only know FMV games for their lack of actual gameplay. There may be exceptions (like Star Trek Borg) but most of them only consisted of amateur-quality movie sequences which required you to press a button now and then.
A game can hardly be more low-brow. =/
Even those which had a bit more content, like solving crime stories, were mostly suffering from terribly bad acting.
The genre does have untapped potential...but that is something I would say about all genres. XD
While games like Dragon's Lair and Shenmue share the same gameplay concept, you omitted the very important detail that Dragon's Lair and Space Ace do NOT tell the player which button to press or even when to press it.
They are the most annoying trial and error games ever conceived and their only appeal stems from the beauty of the animations.
A 30 minute animated movie which only progresses when you hit the correct series of buttons at specific unknown points. No clue given. Pure trial & error.
great review and your 100% spot on. i think we rush in to 3d and a lot of genres of games kind of got left behind and i hope they get revisted, i love point and click games or any kind of game that make you feal like your apart of the world and makes you care abouth what's happening
I like how you connect Borg to both the oldest as well as the current interactive movie titles. It doesn't seem like their appeal will ever simply pass.

I liked this game!
Q kicked so much butt in it!
I still get creeped out by the voices of the collective.

Not a real Star Trek fan, but this looks pretty interesting. Great, informative review.
Could you give the name of the 2008/2009 game you mention near the end? I can't quite make it out.
