First one, coincidental minors for holding and diving. Second one was BS, both players were making the same move in opposite directions. Third was questionable at best...I'd err on no penalty on that one, but have seen similar penalties called. Usually when a player loses a stick and the guy he's stick checking falls over, it's called, for right or wrong...usually looks worse than it really is.

A team nor player should have to deal with bullshit calls like those when you're trying to win a hockey game against another good team in your division. Those penalties should NEVER have been called. This ref should be fired. I completely believe what Burrows said about Auger. FUCK AUGER!! That's totally unacceptable!

I actually agree with the first call. Second was weak but we see those in out of all games. I can believe Auger was gunning for him and don't have a serious issue with it. All refs have pride and memory. There is a ton of communication between refs and teams. I think Burrows might receive a harder time after this from other officials.

On the first penalty Burrows can be seen holding Hamhuis' stick, that IS a penalty. Top it off with the fact that Auger gave him plenty of warning and you come up with the fact that Burrows screwed up. Auger probably mislabeled the call a dive on purpose to get under Burrows skin and get a rise out of him. Now that he has grown into a great offensive player he should drop that disgusting habit of trying to draw cheap penalties, and shame on canucks for not straightening him out on this.
On the first one, it looks to me as though burrows just fell. It didnt look like he was trying to draw the call. The second one, was just incidental contact, not to mention very soft. The third one is tough to call. Not a very good angle
As a fan of the Pens, I feel I can be a little neutral in this matter. The first one did look like an attempt to draw a call. A really bad attempt, and as a ref I would've called diving.
The second call for interference against Burrows was complete BS. Calling incidental (not to mention light) knee contact like that is overstepping your bounds as an official.

Whoever is against Burrows in this situation is right and everybody else is wrong and they will see that in the coming days/weeks as this unfolds. 2nd one was cleary burrows holding the stick, not a dive on his part like he got, but clearly a hoding the stick, he fell on his own, upon getting up put his hand on hamhuis's stick and then clamped down on it, look at hamhuis's reaction, he couldnt get the puck cause burrows was holding it (8 second mark)
I'm no fan of Vancouver but those calls were BS. The tripping marginaly legit but not at 3 min. left. The diving also questionable (he looked like he grabbed the stick) but both should have gotten a minor if at all. That interference call was HORSE $#!^ and blatently showed a personal vendeta. In my my opinion Auger should be booed out of every ice rink in the NHL.
As a Canuck Fan it's hard to be objective in this situation, but i will try.
1st penalty: Yes it might have been a dive but it was not phantom dive (falling without contact). HOWEVER, Hamhus' stick, which Burrows may or may not have been holding, is clearly in a hooking position. Burrows didn't need to dive but Hamhus should have been called for hooking but was not. BAD CALL
2nd one: Weak call but still a penalty
3rd one: Stick shouldn't have been there. Again, Weak call but still a penalty
Ever think about the possibility of refs gambling on games on the side? They do have the power to swing a game to their favor. Refs are humans and certain humans tend to like gambling. Just because they're Refs doesn't make them a super non-gambling human.

Refs have played favorites for years. Bob Meyers was known as "Montreal Myers." He loved to make sure that the Habs crowd were happy, especially on Saturday nights. With regards to showing up a ref, Roger Neilson and several Nuck players waved white towels on top of their sticks as a sign of surrender after Myers fell in love with the Chicago Stadium crowd during a SC semi-final playoff game. Burrows was jobbed, but he will pay for his public disclosure of the truth.
Henrik and Daniel always get hooking,tripping,holding calls. Im not even worried about that call, that looked somewhat legit which wouldve put the play 4on4 not 4on3 which basically handed nashville the undeserved 2 points

Can't say I feel sorry for him. You show up refs long enough, they're gonna burn you eventually. Auger's mistake was telling him beforehand - if that's true...Burrows could be lying. Who knows.
If the first was a dive, he would have looked around for a penalty to be called. he kept playing cause he knew he caught a bad edge tryin to turn around.
the interference call = brutal.. BRUTAL... That combined with the alleged "talk" before the game should = serious discipline for Auger and/or dismissal as an NHL ref. I agree you have to play through it, but those calls were horrible and clearly targetted regardless of the "talk" before the game.

this issue now isn't that he made the wrong call, i think that is clear. its that auger's alleged "vandetta" against burrows actually 100% determined the outcome of a game. It was truly canucks vs. auger in this game, 2 points to the ref.
Because the penalty didn't result in the goal. The Predators don't have an amazing power play. The Canucks could have easily killed it off. If you have a penalty, you have to suck it up and want it more than the other team.
Let's get this straight: a penalty is charged against a player trying to injure another or if that player tries to gain an unfair advantage. Unfortunately, that didn't happen here. There should be no shortlist of guys to watch. You call the game as it is. If that doesn't work, have a guy in the press box with an earpiece and a mic if the refs on the ice miss something blatant. Cinepcuk, I am a ref too. The first penaly could be holding the stick. It is not unsportsman like. BURROWS out of the way route to the net was because he went to back up his center. Upon seeing they won the face off he went to the net. He put his hands up to anticipate contact with the defenceman, but the was none. With AUGER'S comment it is apparent why the calls were made.

As a referee, I can easily say all of these were penalties. They were ticky tack, yes, but they were penalties. They called the game tightly on both sides. The interference is the least likely to be a penalty but he definitely took an out of the way path to get to the front of the net.
Are you nuts? If that gets called as Interference, then every time that two players touch on ice and the puck is not involved, it should be a penalty. On a face-off when one player is going south and another heading north, it is expected that they jostle a bit to get where they were going. There was no intention on Burrows' part to impede Ward and no justification for an interference call.
As a referee myself, None of the 2 first were penality. Honnestly, I dont see how you could call stuff like that, the player must hate you for doing so. Nothing personnal or offensive but you have to leave the player play a little.

I remember not too long ago, Bettman said on air a ref only need to suspect something to make a call, it need not to be sure. and that way, that'll prevent thing from degenerating. :D based on that, the 3 call are fine to me.

The dive is a tough call, I dont know if he ever really got his balance, but either way it did not have an effect on the play and is a pretty weak call at that time of the game. The interference is a terrible call, a player is allowed to go into the circle looking for lose pucks as long as he doesnt deliberately interfere with another player. if what burrows said is found out to be true, I think auger will have reffed his last game in the show

On the first penalty Burrows can be seen holding Hamhuis' stick, that IS a penalty. Top it off with the fact that Auger gave him plenty of warning and you come up with the fact that Burrows screwed up. Auger probably mislabeled the call a dive on purpose to get under Burrows skin and get a rise out of him. Now that he has grown into a great offensive player he should drop that disgusting habit of trying to draw cheap penalties, and shame on canucks for not straightening him out on this.

On the first one, it looks to me as though burrows just fell. It didnt look like he was trying to draw the call. The second one, was just incidental contact, not to mention very soft. The third one is tough to call. Not a very good angle

As a fan of the Pens, I feel I can be a little neutral in this matter. The first one did look like an attempt to draw a call. A really bad attempt, and as a ref I would've called diving.
The second call for interference against Burrows was complete BS. Calling incidental (not to mention light) knee contact like that is overstepping your bounds as an official.
Wish we could get a better angle on the third penalty. I can't say anything one way or the other

Whoever is against Burrows in this situation is right and everybody else is wrong and they will see that in the coming days/weeks as this unfolds. Burrows wont be able to get away with the way he plays anymore and probably wont stay on the line with the Sedin twins as a result of it. 2nd one was cleary burrows holding the stick, not a dive on his part like he got, but clearly a hoding the stick, he fell on his own, upon getting up put his hand on hamhuis's stick and then clamped down on it, look at hamhuis's reaction, he couldnt get the puck cause burrows was holding it (8 second mark)

I'm no fan of Vancouver but those calls were BS. The tripping marginaly legit but not at 3 min. left. The diving also questionable (he looked like he grabbed the stick) but both should have gotten a minor if at all. That interference call was HORSE $#!^ and blatently showed a personal vendeta. In my my opinion Auger should be booed out of every ice rink in the NHL.

As a Canuck Fan it's hard to be objective in this situation, but i will try.
1st penalty: Yes it might have been a dive but it was not phantom dive (falling without contact). HOWEVER, Hamhus' stick, which Burrows may or may not have been holding, is clearly in a hooking position. Burrows didn't need to dive but Hamhus should have been called for hooking but was not. BAD CALL
2nd one: Weak call but still a penalty
3rd one: Stick shouldn't have been there. Again, Weak call but still a penalty

Here's something to think about....
Ever think about the possibility of refs gambling on games on the side? They do have the power to swing a game to their favor. Refs are humans and certain humans tend to like gambling. Just because they're Refs doesn't make them a super non-gambling human.

Refs have played favorites for years. Bob Meyers was known as "Montreal Myers." He loved to make sure that the Habs crowd were happy, especially on Saturday nights. With regards to showing up a ref, Roger Neilson and several Nuck players waved white towels on top of their sticks as a sign of surrender after Myers fell in love with the Chicago Stadium crowd during a SC semi-final playoff game. Burrows was jobbed, but he will pay for his public disclosure of the truth.

Burrows --> Fine or 1-2 game suspension for what was said about the reffing in the game.
That would not make up for the 2 points lost, but it would be better

the commentaries are kinda screwed up with their comments on the dive penalty. i dont think he tried to get a penalty but just lost his balance while fighting for the puck. if he was trying to get the penalty he would of looked at the ref instead of playing the puck. the next one was bullshit. he was fighting for position and won then got called for interference. the ref was opviously looking for him because i havent seen a call like that in a while.

Burrows has been one of the league's worst divers for the last few years.
Can't say I feel sorry for him. You show up refs long enough, they're gonna burn you eventually. Auger's mistake was telling him beforehand - if that's true...Burrows could be lying. Who knows.

If the first was a dive, he would have looked around for a penalty to be called. he kept playing cause he knew he caught a bad edge tryin to turn around.
the interference call = brutal.. BRUTAL... That combined with the alleged "talk" before the game should = serious discipline for Auger and/or dismissal as an NHL ref. I agree you have to play through it, but those calls were horrible and clearly targetted regardless of the "talk" before the game.

Because the penalty didn't result in the goal. The Predators don't have an amazing power play. The Canucks could have easily killed it off. If you have a penalty, you have to suck it up and want it more than the other team.

Let's get this straight: a penalty is charged against a player trying to injure another or if that player tries to gain an unfair advantage. Unfortunately, that didn't happen here. There should be no shortlist of guys to watch. You call the game as it is. If that doesn't work, have a guy in the press box with an earpiece and a mic if the refs on the ice miss something blatant. Conspiracy? I don't know what to think now. Isolated incident? Gary needs to see hockey to the US....

Cinepcuk, I am a ref too. The first penaly could be holding the stick. It is not unsportsman like. BURROWS out of the way route to the net was because he went to back up his center. Upon seeing they won the face off he went to the net. He put his hands up to anticipate contact with the defenceman, but the was none. With AUGER'S comment it is apparent why the calls were made.

As a referee, I can easily say all of these were penalties. They were ticky tack, yes, but they were penalties. They called the game tightly on both sides. The interference is the least likely to be a penalty but he definitely took an out of the way path to get to the front of the net.

Are you nuts? If that gets called as Interference, then every time that two players touch on ice and the puck is not involved, it should be a penalty. On a face-off when one player is going south and another heading north, it is expected that they jostle a bit to get where they were going. There was no intention on Burrows' part to impede Ward and no justification for an interference call.

This referee should be gone, you don't go after somebody because they may have made you look stupid in the past, officiating like this led to the Bertuzzi-Moore incident. Auger should be fined because those were horrible calls, if nothing happens to him I call a fix by Bettman.

The dive is a tough call, I dont know if he ever really got his balance, but either way it did not have an effect on the play and is a pretty weak call at that time of the game. The interference is a terrible call, a player is allowed to go into the circle looking for lose pucks as long as he doesnt deliberately interfere with another player. if what burrows said is found out to be true, I think auger will have reffed his last game in the show
