  • good video overall

  • well hun, the skit was Offensive to *Black Americans* ! I wanna explain why but its gonna take a long time so just google *Jim Crow laws* then you'll understand why we are so offended by it. I'm not saying in NO way that they should be sued or anything. and this kinda thing is not easly forgotten. But hopefully every thing will be fine...tnx for making this video...

    L.o.v.e.

  • @earthlyme

I knew of that moment in American History and what it was about but I was unaware there was a law and name for it, thanks for that info.

  • No problem!

  • your right. It is very racist, but we have to understand they obviously didn't put a lot of thought into it, but as you said we (australians) haven't been part of that culture; so we truly don't understand the origin or blackface or the hardship african-americans have gone through, I don't approve of it, but I think we need to leave them alone.

  • Im a British subject living in Australia and I personally believe that Aussies dont like being told they are wrong, especially by someone non Australian, for example, me and some Aussie mates could be having a laugh and one could make a bad taste joke in which another mate could point it out, and nothing more would be said, however if I were to point it out what with my English accent, ill likley to be told 'go back home you whinging POM' as I have in the past. This is whats happend here I think

  • Great points David.

  • Brillint to see that ther ARE smart people out there that actually attempt to put themselves in everyones shoes before spouting crap, kudos to you my friend, the world needs more people like you.

  • and excuse my wireless keyboard please, i keep missing keys.

  • sounds like this particular subject really riled you up in a way. Personally I don't blame you at all. Personally, I see how some of those things, can and cant be offensive. I see alot of African American people making jokes about themselves and some white people as-well. Here in NJ, we stil have a bit of strong racism so things like that get people where I am fired up. Personally as someone who's of different ethnicity, I possibly would take jokes offensively but Im more relaxed about it.

  • Well done David. What a difference a few days make! I know you were nervous speaking out at a time where it appeared that most YouTubers were getting all defensive and were agressively criticising Harry Connick Jnr in being defensive of Hey Hey. Now that the pieces are put together and it is so much more clear that Harry Connick Jnr is copping it already in the US for not being more agressive, we can see what a headspin this would have been for him. Harry Connick Jnr was brilliant.

  • I went to high school for some time in Arkansas over the border from Louisianna in the US. I empathise with Harry Connick Jnr in the context of where he was from, as the struggle for equality in the deep south was intense. It certainly was when I lived there. It's interesting in your other video that the "OReily" factor on Fox (ironic title) criticised Harry Connick for arriving on this show at all, and not responding agressively enough. Harry showed restraint and was a diplomatic gentleman.

  • people need to GET OVER THAT it

its gone on for to long mabey 1 news thing

    but not EVERY day

every 1 needs to get over it

  • Hey I just noticed you look a bit like jack Sparrow xD

  • All I have to say is I wish are this racism shit will stop altogether. I know it won't, just wishful thinking.

  • I believe the sketch itself was in poor taste but accept that not everybody is as educated in this regard. These guys didn't seem to realise the message this was sending out. Their bad. Hopefully everyone's learned a lesson.

I did however find it hilarious that Harry Connick Jnr, as well as some other American broadcasters, have said things like "This wouldn't happen in the USA" . It does. It's just not as blatantly obvious. Black face or racist stereotypes, racism is still racism, no?

  • You covered it very well Dave.

  • I agree.

  • No 2 wrongs do not make a right! I'm through with it,had my say now.People got so emotional and defensive about this,it just makes it impossible to have objective discussion under those circumstances,so I've moved on! :P

  • I think there are a lot of countries that have race issues and Australia is one of them. We should take the criticism on board, see this as a cultural learning curve and learn not to do it again but instead they are directing their anger towards the US and2 Connic which is not on. Harry Connick JR was born in the deep south (Lousanna) and was raised in New Orelans . His father was also a cival rights lawyer so he knows this stuff well. It's time that people grow up. It is not funny anymore.

  • I agree with everything you have said. It ws just so embarrassing to see this type of skit being put on their air especially in 2009. I mean the whole world has caught on that blackface is an racially offensive act and shouldn't have been done it amazes me that a lot haven't caught on.

The people defending the skit are not helping either. Ignorance is no excuse for it. Connick was not weaing blackface in that skit and he was surrounded by actual black people so that is no counter argument.

  • I'd hate to live in a world where comedy was all politically correct, there would be no family guy, simpsons, curb your enthusiasm, little britain, monty python - to name a few, the list goes on and on...

    Freedom of expression Dave!!

  • well in the interest fo full disclosure I will admit there are some PC issues that shouldn't be PC, you may remember the Hungry Beast vid I did last week.

I'm not really debating the sketch, but rather the people who try to defend it with blatant racist remarks that they don't even realize which is somewhat embarrassing as an Australian.

    Cheers Steve

  • Well said Dave.

I think one of the reasons this is such a 'big issue' in Australia is because some media outlets have called Australia racist (and what country isn't to some extent?). This tends to stir up some national pride and negate some critical thinking about said incident and Australia's past that lead some to make them.

  • yeah I have noticed that, in fact if you go to my other channel TheDuckClock you can see how I showed Fox News the fact that they withheld information and failed to do any research to escalate the issue.

I knew from when I saw that skit on TV that it was going to be all over the news the next day, the media sure loves their drama

  • fuck you whitie

go to a merica and get ur dick cut off

  • Haha thank you for showing how idiotic you are for spamming the same shit, and for bumping up the comments

  • spammers are good for the view and comment count

  • jy19893 we love you too

  • People should just shut the fuck up,I'm sorry but in the 21 century this is so stupid.Black people should just take it,And same with wight,If a black guy goes to another black guy "Yo Nigga" It's ok,If a wight guy seas it then it's racist.i mean everyone should just STFU

  • Hey its longer now... :)

    Well said mate

  • i am open minded, over a bottle of good red wine.

  • Harry Connick Jr, could have stopped it if he wanted to. Just by gonging it, he made a derogatory comment, to draw the medias attention. he is using it a platform to promote his concert tour in australia. all the partners runing the hey hey story have harry connick ticket sales in their ad share.

  • I don't think he knew what the rules of gonging the perfomances were

Whenever I've seen red faces it's always been Red thats hit the gong,

Also I'm a partner and I tried to remove ads but it didn't work. It'd be a pure coincidence that those ads appear. Again he had no idea that show was going to show that performance.

You also seem to forget that he's also now cancelled his public performances in Australia, check the link in the description

  • All judges are allow to gong, previous judges of red faces, have made the comment, he could have gonged it. The comment came from Marcia Hines, has stated, that the red faces judges are given an outline of the show, prior to the show and given the rules. Harry used to promote himself. That isnt surprising, a lot of people in the entertaining industry are self promoting twats.

  • Considering the show has been out of action for 10 years I'm not sure if the rules of the show then were all remembered,

Never the less if Harry did gong it early he would have said the exact same thing

  • the show may have been off air for 10 years, but the 9 network is a big corporation. When they have rules on shows they dont forget them easily. I am confident in saying, that he knew the rules. I am confident also his publicity stunt backfired so bad, that of the cause of cancelling his concert tours.

If he never had a concert tour he would not have been on the show to promote his tour.

  • It was not a publicity stunt. They didn't tell him the schedule. This was humiliating for Harry Connick Jnr, he was criticised in the US for not going far enough, criticised in Australia for saying anything at all. Rules? Australian broadcasters regulate their own rules, the ABA leaves them at arms distance. Of course Harry was on the show. But that is no proof that he knew what was on Red Faces. Channel 9 and the performers apologised to him and were really concerned. A stunt?

  • fridays smh had a statment from 9 harry knew the content and rules

  • ycant we rate this vid?

  • Cause some ass-hole rates them all 1 star all the time

  • I want this to be an intelligent discussion.
