One of the few times I feel the english voice acting is superior to the japanese. Then again, it's english dub original, and back then, Pirates of Dark Water had an amazing voice actor cast and compelling dialouge. ChungoLungo, I can't find episode 19, Sister of the Sword! Can you help me find that jitatin episode, it's more elusive then a dartha eel.
What on earth was the point of editing this? The slapping? That was only 3 seconds long. They could have left the rest in. Maybe it was just edited out at some point and that's the copy that some stations got and didn't notice.
Why would you go out of your way for a Japanese version of a show originally only released in English? I'm sorry, but between that, the fact that this was an original uncut scene also means you've lied about your portrayal of what this is... I cant really give you any positive feedback. But, props for some PoDW clips that are basically useless and harder to get than the regular English version.
@royalexile927 I think you're overreacting a little...I released this clip in Japanese only because my English copy's audio encoding is weird and won't rip easily. And it's great that you were able to see this clip in the past, but from my experience, the vast majority of people who have seen this show have not seen it. Different TV stations edited the show in different ways: Cartoon Network and Boomerang never aired this scene, and CN was the one channel to air this show for many years.
*the vast majority of people who have seen this show have not seen _this scene,_ I mean. (Others haven't even seen all 21 episodes because some stations only aired episodes 1-5 and others aired episodes 1-13.) Accusing me of lying is kind of harsh. :P
@mastmedia That's great that you do have this scene on tape. :) But few fans have actually seen it because different channels edited the show differently, and Cartoon Network (which aired the show for many years) edited it out. That isn't to say that nobody's seen it, but not very many had, prior to the DVD release last August, which does include it.
Its amazing...They delete this scene, yet keep the one where the dark water eats the guard in episode 3.....Does any one remember the sound he made when he died....Chilling...I cant believe I saw that on a Saturday morning and im glad I did. The chance that someone could die in an episode made it all the more enthralling.
Andorus do you know where to find episode # 19 (Sister of the Sword) online, I have been watching the complete series online and that one I just can't find it... Hope you can answer me...
@Bigfurtz Sorry...I'm running into issues with the audio encoding. And now that the show's out on DVD, I technically can't put whole episodes up online (WB's lawyers are on the prowl and already contacted me about some PoDW torrent links on my website). I will try to at least get clips up someplace, though.
@000Moli000 It is an American series, yes. Actually, in the recent DVD release via Warner Home Video, this scene is included! So I guess it was really up to individual studios to edit it out...I'd only seen the episodes on Cartoon Network, which did not include this scene.
@Axaleth Not via any accessible distribution, no--I found the Japanese-language VHS tapes of episodes 1-5 via Yahoo! Auctions (which is to Japan what eBay is to North America) and had them sent to friends living in Japan, who then sent them on to me.
@DreamsofCentaurs Are you thinking of The Beast And The Bell (an evil winged creature--two-legged, but those legs are kind of like the hind legs of a horse--trapped in a magical bell that tricks the good guys into setting him free)? There are no actual minotaurs in the series that I can think of.
I love Ren's voice!

This show is very similar to adventure Anime shows so no wonder they aired it in Japan.

But when?

@andorus no, the girl character does gets thrown into the labryinth. but it turns out the minotaur is nice and keeps her and some other girls safe.

what was so bad about this scene that it was deleted?
Passions55 2 years ago
My guess would be that the "you wouldn't know Dame Fortune if she jumped out of a cake" bit might have been a little too "risque" for young kids. ;)

It's in japanese! OMG it's in Japanese, this is so COOL!
I'm used to japanese anime subbed for an american audience, it is weird to see the opposite.

Its unfortunate that this great scene was cut from the episode. Thanks for posting this clip.
