Did u know if Big Brown wouldve never won It would've been Eight Belles!? Were just lucky she didn't suffer I love horses but seriously this has happened 3 years ago time to think about a different horse. Ok?
@MichaelJs1luv96 No offense, but I don't understand your point. I made this video three years ago. It's not like I made it last week. And most of the comments are old, too. Besides, Eight Belles was a wonderful filly and the only horse to die in the history of the Kentucky Derby. If we don't take the time to remember the horses who break down, how can we ever make racing safer?
i would bet,,,,, if she knew what happened,,, this amazing beatifull EIGHT BELLES would run no matter what.... she will forever be in my heart RIP beautifull belles
Beautiful video. She was an amazing filly. I thought she'd be one to give Big Brown trouble in the Preakness after the Derby was over. She didn't get out of traffic in the stretch as fast as BB did. I think she could have been running alongside him if she had. Thanks again for posting this, a great tribute. It was nice to see all of her racing footage. What's the music?
"The Hours" from the movie soundtrack. Yeah, she was one talented filly. I couldn't believe it when she died. :( Her performance in the Derby was one of the most valiant efforts I've ever seen.
Sure was. I totally came apart when the said a horse was down, and I was so upset to hear it was Eight Belles. I'd so looked forward to the Derby for months... when they made that announcement, it totally sucked all of the fun out of the whole thing. I think this was more depressing for me than Barbaro's breakdown, because at least he had a chance to fight for his life. May they both rest in peace.
I was more devastated by her breakdown than Barbaro's as well, not because I value Barbaro less, but I think it had to do with the shock. She had just run a great race. Then, just like that, euphoria turned to grief. Plus, no horse had ever died in the Derby before. it just seemed to me like the Derby was a hallowed race where such tragedy would not enter.
Exactly. I always did fear though what a major wreck in the Kentucky Derby would result in. It would kill racing for sure. Think of all those horrific wrecks, crashes, and breakdowns (here I think of Go For Wand), that would just be awful. It's awful to happen anywhere at all, but the it seems worse at a place like the Derby. I'm actually not diggin the racing industry right now. It needs some reform, but I'll always love watching the horses run. They're amazing.
Yeah, with 20 horses running in the Derby, there is always that fear of a horrifc multiple horse wreck. Though since no horse had died before, I had a false sense of security in the Derby that was shattered when Eight Belles died. :( I agree, the industry needs reform, but the wonderful horses always bring me back to the sport. :)
20 horses in the Derby is just crazy. It makes the Derby more about luck in terms of where you end up in traffic. The best horses often don't even get a chance to compete because they can't make it out of traffic in time. i.e. Colonel John, Eight Belles, Denis of Cork (watch his stretch run), and the list goes on. They should limit the number to like 14, like they do in the Preakness.
I like this tribute the best because it shows pictures of her as a filly hanging around her barn. It showsn not only her fantastic spirit and drive, but it also shows pictures of Eight Belles having her picture taken outside her barn, like every other horse. It reminds us that she was a filly who nickered for her breakfast and enjoyed rolling in the dirt. RIP sweet girl. You will be missed.
Glad you liked it. Yes, sometimes we think of these thoroughbreds solely as competitors, but that is only a part of them. They are horses who have simple joys and are loved whether or not they are fast.
just send me a Bulletin of your video and send me your e-mail in case you win 1st place because if you win 1st place you get a beautiful picture of Eight Belles
