  • The Monkees were able to pull off the cutesie charm that makes this song so good. Harry can't quite get there. He's a little too deep to be believable singing this. Davy and Mickey nailed it.

  • What a stinker.

  • I like the way Harry writes an up beat melody with dark lyrics. He is a great story teller there are to few anymore

  • It's very Jack Johnson-ish!!! LOVE IT!!!

  • so sad.... such a waste... a voice like none other

  • He sounds like George Harrison when he sings this.

  • A MASTERPIECE!

  • I love both versions :)

  • @ELEANORFUCKINGRIGBY i really love your username hahaha

  • I think he wrote it for the show (the monkeys) if i remember right

  • Sounds so much like John Lennon. Definitely better than the Monkees version.

  • @BeachMamaPegs It's not a case of this being 'better' than The Monkees' version, it's just your opinion. I've never heard this version until now and it's easier to listen to, for me personally. I seem to be listening to the words more and not just enjoying the energetic and playful nature of The Monkees' version.

  • Nilsson sure had his own unique style!!!!!! :)

  • Smile on my face from start to finish. BEAUTIFUL! I do love The Monkees rendition so very much, but hearing his sweet voice just makes me happy.

  • Harry Nilsson is simply one of the best American song writers ever. He was and shall remain a nationl treasure.

  • @LordBarumba why "one of the best" ? THE best !

  • It's impossible to dislike this.

  • I wish these guy didn't die so young. Not because we lost their music but because they don't get to be with their families who love and miss them.

  • @craigformykids He died in the 90's... Not to young lol

  • @billiardball77 He was 54 when he died that's pretty young.

  • @billiardball77 he was like in his 40s or 50s that's pretty young...

  • @TheFlimOfFlam he was 52 :(

  • @dorisz8822 ):

  • @craigformykids

Unfortunately it seems what makes these artists so good is that they need the outlet for their pain and often drugs or booze mutes that pain....til it kills them.

  • I like this better than the Monkees version.

  • i love this song!
