the suddenly dark screen- we are seeing the show from toni eyes,so we can feel and see what he felt when they shot him- dark.

in this 5 min in the resturant the bell rings 6 times like in Christianity Mass and funeral of important people.

The onion ring - they are eating the rings in one time - like people supposed to eat holy bread.

no the onion ring thing is right, its meant to be the holy bread, look at the entire ending scene again its on youtube, theres a shot where he enters and looks at the restaurant, then the camera shows everyone in the restaurant and an empty seat in the middle, then suddenly tonys in that seat, its an exact replica of the painting "last supper" before Jesus died, look it up.

i think the ending is a commentary on death. from all the signs, it seems to us that he died. but when people die, do they die? or is there an afterlife? no one knows. every person on earth would do anything to know, but no one can figure it out. on the issue, we are all completely in the dark; it doesn't matter if your a mob boss or a guy like me. since we don't know, is it really justified for man to go through so much stress in life, if its all going to end?

director david chase has hinted this several times since the ending of the program. especially when discussing potential move releases.people like to assume there is always a definate ending in a program i.e. death etc. chase always tried to show there is no 'exact' ending in life, hence why he chose to end it the way he did. there isn't a precise ending to life, it wasnt a movie, there didnt need to be a meaning to the ending the ending of the sopranos showed that brilliantly.

Yes he does get whacked, but David Chase decided not to actually show the act of Tony's murder not so much as to misdirect the audience but to make sure they were paying attention. There were clues, lots of them.
