@silentrob77 So true! Lyrics generally mean nothing to me. Most suck. When I do come across lyrics that resonate with me I'm surprised and consider it a bonus. I know some people for whom if the lyrics don't mean something to their little personal lives or relationships they don't (won't really) like the song. Lame. The music has to move my soul first, THEN I'll check out the lyrics. And then, I'm usually disappointed.

I think this song is about vulnerability. It starts with being "ready for the siege", which means attack from anyone or from ourselves. Then it goes on with the chorus "Do you feel safe again? look over your shoulder", questioning us of the people we trust. And then it goes on about attacking those close to you, whether you are willing to betray them or you are the one waiting to be attacked first. The royal we, meaning the opposite: we are vulnerable, not invincible like monarchs.
