  • i think phonetics is one of those very helpful things people over look.

  • u go Argentinaaa !!!!!! loved the video !!!!

  • Mr. Duncan you are a great zoccola.

  • Phonetics is an area that most of learning English speakers feel afraid and frustrated. But Phonetics is necessary for people who wanna speak English more fluently, and I don't indicate to people who only want repairing Phonetics for passing TOEFL's speaking test. Phonetics is related to Pronunciation, learning Phonetics and improving your Pronunciation are best ways to make yourself understood by English speakers.

  • @tentolanam , Excuse my, i dont'speak well, but I wished alone, to do a witty remark, Mr Duncan is a excellent teacher, and resemble wandery at Elton John.

    by by for now.

  • the phonetics are so important to learn cuz it learns us how to pronounce the words correctly and the codes are not so difficult to remember , i have learnt them in a book which is called phonetics , really useful book and help people who has problems with pronounciation in general or in a specific letters like th :)

  • hello mrduncan your videos are great. I would appreciatte if you teach me how to pronounce the words that start with "th" like THIRTY for example. I heard that some people pronounce with the "f" and others with the "t". some say teri and other say it feri. thanks

  • It is its own sound, neither t nor f. But f would be a better approximation.

  • Hello Mr Duncan!

Im Guillermo from Argentina. I see your lessons everyday.

    Thanks a lot.

  • Thanks Mr.Duncan, it's very useful for me!am from Malaysia!!!

  • Maybe the process is dull and boring, but with the help of these alphabets, you would be able to pronounce any unfamiliar words in Dictionaries. As a result, you will learn volcabularies faster and you will be more active to read English.....the outcome then, is obvious.

  • Hi Mr. Duncan. A Vietnamese's back again. I'm so glad to join your lessons. Because of these ones, I could get a job. You'll be too kind if you make a lesson about "How to prepare for an Interview". Thank you so much. Ta-ta 4now!

  • Thank you very much misterdunkan

    where is Enjoy English

  • wow!!! Fabolous, I have been using phonetic symbol since then, I usually use them whenever I teach my students especially in pronunciation

  • Mr. Duncan,

I *love* your videos, but I have a feeling this one was a bit rushed. Don't you think it would be better to go into more depth? For example, many languages don't have the sounds "th", people don't even know how to pronounce them - do you think it would be helpful if they knew that these are dental fricatives, and what it means? I know that e.g. the vowel map was helpful for me. And how about the rhythm and melody?

  • i agree with you.

  • I ALSO AGREE WITH YOU.

  • Mr. Duncan,

I speak fluent English but your lesson Phonetics has helped me alot during my Linguistics class!

    Truly, The UCR Highlander

  • This is a very short but quite good introduction into phonetics. However, I doubt if one can learn phonetics over the internet. I think you must have a skilled tutor, who would correct your misporunciations and guide you how to use your organs of speech properly.
