Good job Vinni. One of my favourite soloes too. Frampton underrated as a guitar player. Bluesy, melodic. Was going to see him play Frampton Comes Alive complete in Regina, Sask, in September, but he cancelled show two days beforehand for undisclosed reasons. Was so stoked, then so bummed. But hey - money refunded, and now I'll always have my Frampton Comes Alive concert tickets to look at!
You are a great player, but really need to work on your understanding of theory. Don't make statements like "whole tone scale" to explain your black box. That is NOT what is going on here. The whole song is about D Maj tone v. D min. tone. That is why you see D Dorian, D min Pentatonic with Blues Note, and even some D Major. Even the chords demonstrate that with D maj to F with the F# then F. Yeah, Frampton was really good at writing too! Maybe he didn't even know what he did, LOL.
Nice job playing it, but the how to can be greatly improved upon. trying to follow is extremely difficult, and hard to see what is going on. You are showing your talent but not showing us what you are doing. Thanks for trying, but how about teaching it.
@nancylanesmith This is one of my favourite Frampton songs...I've always been a fan since I first saw him with Humble Pie and then with Frampton's Camel. Now I've got tickets to see him again early next year and can't wait. PF seems such a nice guy too!
Vinni...left you a message but figured I should try this way to communicate. I play now like Greg Howe meets Ty Tabor meets Brad Paisley meets Albert King...Different right? Anyway, what pick would you recommend I buy? I currently use medium Dunlops and feel I'm missing something.
I have to agree with you on this one, this solo is by far one of my favorites, and I like it more than the ending solo.
I'm having a little difficulty figuring out exactly what you're doing at 1:56, goes a little to fast to hear all the notes for me, otherwise this helped me quite a bit, and you've done a great job! Thanks.
Btw, anyone know of any good software to slow down tracks/videos?
You look like you might drive a truck....or sell trucks for that matter....but you play REAL GOOD. Great touch and a truly gifted player. Thanks for the lessons!!
Great job. Peter Frampton is so underrated. He is one bluesy, fluid, emotive and inspired guitarists. I believe the Rolling Stones wanted him to replace Mick Taylor at one point.
wow!!! That is frikken tasty!!!!!! You have got that Frampton feel!!! I have been playing this song onstage for ever and never nailed that lick the way u do!!
are you kidding? buckethead lacks any emotion whatsoever. its sweeps, killswitches, and tremolo picking. over and over and over again. yes, he's faster. but speed is extremely overrated.
i am comparing two completely different genres, but im just making an opinion, i like the feel of blues, not a bunch of distorted noise shredding, and im not the only one comparing there...man
Nice - thanks for posting this. It's my all-time favorite solo too. I don't play but I love to listen and having you slow it down makes me appreciate it even more. I'd like to hear you play it with a recording of the bass line in the background
absolutely amazing! is there a place where i can get the tab for how you just played the solo? i love exactly how you did it and would love to learn it that way.
Damn, you just blew me away, man! My big sister has been dragging me to Frampton shows for 30 freakin' years, and the guy is an amazing player. It's great to see someone showing him some love on here. You did this solo some serious justice, too, Vinni. Bravo!
Have been playin for 30years and also agree about the beauty of this solo. Peter is a master at creating solos that are extremely MUSICAL (not like some boring shredder).
i absolutely agree with you about the beauty of this solo, (and the whole song) one of the greatest pieces of rock music ever composed, performed etc...beauty p.r.s. also by the way
I share your love of this solo my friend. Its my fav as well. But as much as i like playing this part i LOOVE playing the end solo even more where he just explodes with the advancing slide chords. That portion just TOTALLY kicks ass.
Nice...I'm a percussianist but the rest of the guys in the family are guitar players. My brother has been playing for 30 years and he finally agreed to go to a Frampton show with me. He was in shock at how good Pete was.

As far as the Key of this song, it is a mixture of D Dorian (C Major) and D minor pentatonic blues.
dmcaspe 4 months ago
Nice Job but... Can you please teach me the intro to this song and with tabs?

@nancylanesmith seems he shifted from d up to E many times during the solos/ penatonic stuff.

ebony fingerboard helps get closer to his tone but you need an LP Custom through a great EL34 amp to get THE tone

I was going strait into a Kustom 30 watt amp. That's it. no pedals.
It does have a Scumback speaker in it and the WCR Pickups on the guitar help a lot too.
Thanks for the kind comments!

Vinni, What amp and pedal are you using to get Petes solo tone? Sounds great! Thanks for playing.....

EXCELLENT!!!
I finally found someone else who is/was as amazed as I have been over the years with THAT particular solo!!!
Vinni, I agree with you 100%, man. Pete crafted a gem with that first solo in DYFLWD.
So melodic, haunting, fluid, jazzy, bluesy.... Really, what elements were NOT in that solo?
Nice job playing it too. You've got it down cold.
