Mustang/Camaro/Vette mean nothing to me. My Ford F-250 6.4 Powerstroke diesel with H&S Tuner will spank the tampons off of any one of em! 600 hp and enough torque to move Mt. Everest.............bring it
Alot of people say the mustangs were the first pony cars, or the camaro was the first car to actually be called a "pony car", but the truth is, the barracudas came out about two weeks before the first mustangs.
@SOFSoldier1 Dude I finally got my Boss and after all your trolling I can tell you first hand that I have fucking zero transmission problems you fuckin terd, got to Challenger forums.com in the 392 section they openly admit in page 34 of the ZL1 and Shelby dead thread that the Boss will pound the 392........its a better fuckin car.
sorry to break it to ya 10fold, but yes, the m ustang tech created the long nosed(ford famous wayy to longgg like old skool lincolns and mercs) short butted (rear sec tion) so called pony cars. These things were not much more than the then version of the latter pinto and checy vega. small engine small car (for the da) econo-cars. They rattled, they shook, the suspention sucked, but once Shelby made one roar (same old grab a small body and stuff a monster motor in it tech) Fors saw the potential
@06G35xSeDaN That Over-priced BMW M5 e90 w/e penis extension is NOT listed on the fastest lap times @ Leguna Seca, however the BOSS 302 LS placed 8th and the BOSS 302 placed 13th. 1.39.50 and 1.40.21. The notable cars below it are:Porsche 977 GT3, 997Turbo, 997 Turbo S, Nissan GTR, Corvette Z06, "BMW M3(1.42.96), and the Audi R8 V10. 82' GT Mustang did 2.09.90. Beating their old record by 30 seconds and raping BMW's all the way.....yeah FUCK YOU euro HATER.
sure it doesn't do 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds. sure it has a rear live axle. sure it doesn't have awd. sure it requires premium fuel for 444 hp. but man for an american car this baby friggin revs and the torque band is just on-spot. this is a well balanced machine that ford has done incredible things with. no tricks. no turbochargers. no superchargers. just pure V8 american muscle. I love you Ford.
I hate to break it to the camaro fans but camaros just weren't built for a track...ever...
Not trying to talk shit, I dig the camaros too, but there is no denying that the mustang has a chassis that has been tweaked with track handling in mind for decades. Since the 2010s, they have really taken that to the next level. Maybe the next generation camaro will be where it needs to to compete in a similar price range, but right now, If you bring the same amount of cash to Ford & to Chevy, Ford wins.
Guess you've never heard of the 69 Z28? Where do you think Ford got the idea? Look i'm on here admiring this new machine but some of you guys on here are just dumb, and bashing every other car model is just fucking pathetic. It's great this new Boss runs 11's, and after Kenne Bell builds a blower for it, it's going to be a load of fun on the street, just like every other Camaro, Mustang, Corvette, Charger. A word of advice, buy the car you LIKE, theres always going to be a faster one.
And where do you think Ford got the idea for Mustang?? Thats right! THE CORVETTE! Except the Mustang could never compete with the Corvette and Shelby himself called it a secretaries car. You can look up both facts yourself, what a lame retort, you should change your name to @BSdave
@ESPsandEmgs that's wrong..."Ford's" idea for the Mustang was created by John Najjar, and controlled by Lee Iacocca-it was never intended to compete with nor designed to imitate the Corvette in its final iteration. If anything, it was derived from Eurostyle sports cars with its original mid-engine rear drive. Ford created the "pony car" craze...if anything, it only furthered Chevrolet's Corvette reputation as the flagship of American performance, Shelby's comments notwithstanding.
@ESPsandEmgs Um, just because you say so, right? Which cites no verfiable information...oh well, e-thuggin' at it's best...I guess you were around in '61 when the Mustang materialized as two seat mid engined roadster to April '64 that produced a 2+2 coupe, fastback, and convertible. Bitchin' 'vette on your page though...
Yea, I have heard and read enough interviews (Shelby) & (Lacocca) to believe what I said to be true. The original design was even a two seater with very similar lines to the 2nd gen Corvette. And the 2 seat idea was finally dumped after poor sales of their other 2 seater.
There was no need to take a jab at me about not being around in '61, i'm sure many people who were around at that time don't know all the facts either. Thats why I only believe the people that were there.
@ESPsandEmgs alright, perhaps it was a "jab"...choose your replies inflamed by idiots and assholes on YT more wisely, and jabs will be less likely to come your way. My first statement is correct...Lee Iacocca was appointed as VP, hence controlled, when the Mustang (T-5 project) came to fruition...credit "given" to John Najjar for coining the name, Oros and some others for design/styling, design roots spawned from cues of Jaguars-pony car brought to life-solidified the Corvette in it's own class
@ESPsandEmgs Did Shelby call it a secretary's car? Yes-I've read that before...but when the first '65 GT350s roared to life with a solid cammed 306 hp 289, that image was quickly altered, and they started winning races in SCCA...driven by the likes of Mark Donohue and Bob Johnson...Do I agree the '69 Z28 was BAMF? wholeheartedly-the Z had advantages over the 'stang...but people are people, and people commenting on YT are often asswipes-dont let them get to you...
I would be happy to own either (maybe a little more so the 350 for its value), I am not a Ford hater, and I have to agree with you, most YouTubers don't have a clue what they are talking about and think whatever it is THEY like is gold and everything and everyone else is stupid.
@ESPsandEmgs yes there are faster cars, obviously. but in the same class as the mustang, the only formidable opponents i can think of hail from germany like an m3 or maybe even a carrera; but those are priced much higher than a camaro, or challenger. i wish chevy made the camaro as good as the 69 z28 because that's my personal favorite. the new camaro i feel like comes up short and the mustang blows it away.
My point was that 2 or 3 tenths stock in the quarter, really don't mean much, especially when the aftermarket is SO great, you can build a 1000hp Mustang for about as much as it would cost you to build a 1000hp Camaro, so "A word of advice, buy the car YOU LIKE, theres always going to be a faster one." I wasn't talking about a Veyron! I was talking about your STOCK Mustang vs your neighbors Whipple Camaro. Or a Whipple SS vs A Kenne Bell GT500. Thats my point!!!!!
@cammoronx7 oh I know. Even the mustang 5.0 can keep up with the M3 at the track. Because the team who developed the Boss aimed at beating the M3 and surpassed that goal by a long shot. The camaro can't claim that. and for an "american muscle car" (especially 1 that has a live rear axle in which people complain about) that can keep up with a sports car that has been considered 1 of the best; I think that is truly remarkable. The M3 is a great car, but it can get pricey...
@ESPsandEmgs No doubt, I got one but I don't look down at the other cars, if you got the money and the time you can make your desired car as fast as you want to run whatever type of race you want.
Actually your lack of knowledge on the matter is quite amusing, perhaps you should consider reading a book on the topic, before you go around proclaiming your fanboy affixation for Ford.
From "The History of the Ford Mustang"
The Mustang 1, or T-5, was introduced in 1962 at the U.S. Grand Prix, where it was taken for a few demonstration laps. This car would become the, 1964 1/2 model. The Mustang was as sleek as the Corvette, its main competitor among American cars then in production.
Yea a Prototype you dunce! When was the last time a prototype made it to the factory without any changes? Are you just looking for an argument, or are you really that stupid?
I'm just sorry you are using up valuable oxygen someone of actual value to society could have been using...Why don't you do the world a favor and go Suck Start a Shotgun.
Yea, I don't know if you have a mental handicap or something, but apparently you have no concept of a "concept" car, or the evolution of an 'Idea". You want to argue with me, like I haven't read the same material YOU have you dumbass?!?!?
You seam to think a concept car has to "LOOK" like a production car, or else they are not related. But either way, your barking up the wrong tree, it is clear I have a much greater understanding than you do.
@ESPsandEmgs umm bro sorry to tell u but camaro was established 5 years after mustang was, so they pretty much got the idea from themselves...have a nice day
@ESPsandEmgs i said camaro was established to compete with mustang because its a pony car the corvette is a sports car and ill tongue punch your moms fart box and then read book GOOD DAY
Don't matter, the Z28 destroyed the Boss back in the day, and my Dad bought a '70 Boss off the showroom floor, vs my 70' Camaro, the Camaro WINS! So go argue with someone else.
@ESPsandEmgs congradulations you put a 40 year old stang vs a 40 year old camaro you must feel real hard how bout u try that in the present with a 2012 boss vs a 2011 camaro i would say 2012 but oh wait camaro is still tryin to cope with the 5.0 bein brought back sir maybe 30 years ago camaro had the lead and they did again in 2010 but honstly with this new batch of stangs camaro doesnt stand a chance hell u could buy a charger nowadays and make it faster thn a camaro so enjoy bathing in envy
No worries from me, i'm a Corvette guy, and Mustangs can't touch a Vette! Never could, never will, you can try to get me all worked up about the Camaro vs Mustang BS, but the Vette rapes them both, soooo....I win.
@ESPsandEmgs Truer words were never spoken, People gotta learn to be true enthusiasts. When people go to car shows they admire and respect other peoples rides, no true enthusiast walks around bashing other peoples cars just to make thiers look good.
@10fold77 Camaro and Mustangs are muscle cars, not sports cars. I personally think the new Mustang has lost some of its magic as a great muscle car, it's turning into a sports car (which is still great). Massive V8, huge noise, simple (but not dangerous) suspension/brakes/steering, and yellow paint is all a muscle car needs.
@gunigugu1991 I agree, but the boss in particular was never JUST a muscle car. It's always been a mustang for the track. I personally love this car. I think they did a great job on it. If you look at the stock 5.0... it doesn't get any more muscle car than that. I would take a mustang first then a challenger, then a camaro. You have to hand it to dodge for staying true to the roots of the challenger.... I like the camaros, but would have like to see a more nostalgic body style.
@10fold77 I agree. I think the only track car chevy has is the corvette, more specifically the ZR-1. It would be nice if chevy wouldn't put off what could potentially be a great camaro, in the ZL-1, but they wait and there will probably be 3 more variants of the mustang, and possibly more of the challenger by then. GM has great potential in cars, but the hype and long wait period, like the new camaro really set them back.
@10fold77 Was the original Trans Am a modified Camaro? If so, that was designed for the Trans Am race. Even though the engine was too big and it never actually competed, and that was decades ago. Lol.
everyone stop comparing the M5 and zl1 to this, the only car this car was made to go up against according to Ford was the M3, Ford gave the engineers an ultimatum...if it cant beat the M3 around Laguna Seca we wont produce it. guess what kids they produced it, they tested it, and it is the victor over the M3. who cares about the m5 its expensive heavy and still slower than the boss 302. the zl1 is heavy as fuck too. mustang wins sorry all ya whiners, piss off
I have been looking forward to the release of the 2012 Boss 302 Mustang for a while, and now that it's finally here, I'd really be interested in purchasing it... BUT NOT FOR ONE DIME OVER MSRP!
Why must dealerships take advantage of the low production numbers of these cars and fleece their customers? After an online inquiry, my local Ford dealer notified me that they are asking $10,000 over MSRP for the new Boss 302 Mustang, and that amount is non-negotiable. I told them to KISS MY ASS!
@kirk0respite Fresh meat! Though the ZL1 really is supposed to be GT500 territory, class wise. Even so, it is HEAVY though having more horsepower. So we'll see I guess. The thing the ZL1 does have in its favor, speculation only, would be wheels and brakes. Not sure about their suspension geometry. The primary complaint I have with the Boss 302 as well as the GT500 are the whimpy tires and brakes! They need at LEAST 295's for that power level - 305s or 315s being more ideal. sigh
@bobanppvc yeah and the M5 is also heavier, this car is directly aimed at the M3 and in tests it beats it around Laguna Seca, hell even the mustang GT came within a tenth of a second at laguna seca and thats 20,000 dollars cheaper
@bobanppvc im not...Ford is. they built it specifically to beat the M3 at Laguna Seca, where the original 302 Boss dominated, and the new one beat the new M3. you're talking...and its just pure ignorance, so do us all a favor and stop, thanks pal
@bobanppvc im not retarded but your last sentence is, didnt make a bit of sense, clearly illiterate but whatever lol. actually i wasnt comparing the Boss 302 to the M3; Ford is. so maybe if you read my shit you wouldnt look retarded right now. the only reason I said, according to Ford, the Boss 302 exists right now in its new form is because it beat the M3 around laguna seca. read brotha before you post ignorant shit
This car is in a league of it's own no camaro could stand up to this BEAST!!!!! And the zl1 is gm trying to compete with the gt500 not a mustang boss so y would u compare the two. Even tho the new boss would
Probably still kick it's butt being naturally aspirated.
@ppropps Nah 112 more horsepower is easily enough for the ZL1 to beat it. However the GT500 will beat a ZL1, However I won't be suprised if they put the LSA in the Z06 in 2012 instead of the LS7 as Chevy doesn't want a Camaro with more power than a Vette, and that should beat a GT500 (less weight and better aerodynamics than Camaro) Though I'm just throwing out ideas, speaking of ideas I think Chrysler needs an SC Challenger, the 392 sounds good but that'll make it faster than what, an SS?
i have a 2011 gt and it is much nicer inside than the old mustang, it rides smooth, gets good gas mileage, and handles really well. My team leader at work has a new camaro it has the ugliest interior and is very poorly madeand he complains all the time about not being able to see very well. and as far as power goes it only puts about 360 to 370 to the wheels with a manual and 330 to 340 with an automatic were as the mustang puts about 380 +/- to the wheels so ford is probably not being honest.
@5999cc It sucks that people couldn't tell I was joking about the ZL1. The ZL1 doesn't compete with the Boss 302 and so I was making fun of the people who come to a Mustang video to talk up the Camaro. but I appreciate your politeness and civility. Thanks
@archfat Whoops, I admit that I didn't get your sarcasm/joke! poop. After a while you get used to those ALL CAPS "blah blah 4ever" comments without any rationale.
@9b8 cause you dont respect hot rodding. dont knock it till you ru it. i have a mustang 5.0 and a gm ls2 vehical.i love them both. i respect performance no matter what it is.
@BLACKLACDTS I absolutely respect hot rodding. I grew up around a 32 Ford turtle back, a 49 chevy truck, dune buggies, Baja VW, corvairs, heavy machinery and everything in between. And I've done my share of tinkering in the shop. Perhaps I get too philosophical, but I have fundamental disagreement with GM's approach, management, and market manipulation: IMHO irresponsible engineering practices (e.g. passive participation in ground-breaking technology development), market bloat, QA/QM issues, etc
@9b8 the ls platform has took the performance world by storm and is dominate over any n/a mod motor ford. mod for mod the ls motor is dominate. it may be a pushrod but evrybody else i.e ford, mopar have tried to duplicate it sum way or another. its a great engine that makes big power with very little like the new 5.0 ford.
@BLACKLACDTS I guess we'll have to agree to disagree as litre per litre it doesn't add up. Consider a 5.4L modular and a 5.3L vortech for example. If I still ran a 351, 390, etc in my Mustang I'd come to expect a heap of performance too. Have no doubt that other engine manufacturers could build great performing larger displacement OHV/pushrod engines if so desired. If you look at power curves for most LS engines they run out of air up top. Indeed they are torquey ... thanks to displacement.
@9b8 we will not agree i see.lol the ls motors breat better then built motors thats why a simple cam swap makes such a big difference. take for instance all motor numbers from 99, gms 4.8 275hp fords 4.6 260hp,gm 5.7 ls1 350hp fords 5.4 280 its about time ford caught up and im proud of them. i cant wait to see what time shows about the new fords.
@BLACKLACDTS For sure many of the LS engines breathe well at mid-range with enough headroom leftover - that is their design target really. Not so much on high-end (>7K RPM). The cam swaps is a no brainer, most gains coming the higher lift and a little from duration. Note that GM architectures favor a higher lift profile than Ford's, with .6" lift not being uncommon. This is going to change soon though as GM is FINALLY pursuing OHC V8 architecture. That is when it will get really interesting.
@9b8 dont say that! lol i know gm knows how to build a engine for performance so i am ready to see what they offer but i really dont see them changing the LS platform. ford just now steped up to sum nasty n/a engines that are competitive to what gm has been doin since 98. i love where ford is headed but i see gm just upgrading a few things on the ls platform and not a complete change. only time will tell.
@BLACKLACDTS LOL! Man, you and I been going back and forth and wont give up! Its all good. We keep one another in check and disallow ignorant bullshit. I respect that! Well, I would LOVE to see balanced competiton! I don't know, I think if GM also joined the OHC world, it could get interesting! Same as if Ford would finally advance their suspension gemetry on their Mustang platform... something with some chicken bones in it! But I'm still bragging on Ford's coyote 5.0L outflowing the LS3 6.2L!
@9b8 all in fun as long as we dont get ignorant to each other we can have great debates.im a diehard mustang fan and own a 5.0 i also love chevy and own a ls2 6.0 trailblazer ss! the new coyote is a pure beast and i was exstatic to find out it was comin back. i dont know if the 5.0 is outflowing the ls3. if you had a stock 5.0 in a 3000lb drag car and made a few passes then swaped to the ls3 i really believe the ls3 would be victorious. these LS motors are simply amazing.as is the new 5.0
@BLACKLACDTS The coyote 5.0L motor definitely outflows the LS3, even with porting. The LS3 flows around 330 something cfm at .550" lift whereas the coyote is reported to flow 5% better than GT500 heads (330cfm) which would be around 346cfm at .500" lift. The interesting thing is after .500" lift, the LS3 dies out flowing less than peak while the coyote still flows more. Liversnois stated that with ported coyote heads they are seeing beyond 400cfm. I know modified LS3's are seeing 380cfm at least
@BLACKLACDTS I better mention that I meant GM is pursuing the OHC V8 platform in their PERFORMANCE V8 lineup. I'm aware of their Northstar engines that were OHC - but they didn't commit to the technology across the entire board. The word is that they are looking to now commit to the OHC architecture through and through ... time will tell how it pans out as it is a big step to take. Just ask Ford, LOL.
@9b8 honestly i dont see a need to change the current platform for gm. i had a 03 dts with the 300hp northstar and it was a powerhouse for only a 4.6 so if they did that motor only with 6.0 liters it would be a 500hp motor. i dont see them changing the ls platform anytime soon and hope they dont either.
@BLACKLACDTS I don't, but that is the story I've read in forums and other news. I think the reason being that they - like the rest of the world - are pressued to build more efficient engines, not just powerhourses. But I agree with that northstar 4.6L DOHC motor ... seemed to be a good performing engine.
@9b8 heres what i learned about the northstar motor while i owned it. its severly detuned to 300hp from 4.6 litres.guys who cracked the computer on them were able to tune the newer cars(2000 up) and gain a full second in the 1/4 mile and 50+hp equating to 13 second fwd 4 door cadillacs! my car was over 4200lbs,fwd and was capable of runnin mid to high 14s on 87 octane!!!! (87 is recommended) heres a finger pointed in your face! lol you know about early 90s vettes with dohc v8s??? huh?? zr1!!!
@BLACKLACDTS Yeah, it was a shame they didn't invest HEAVILY into that engine platform and use it to the fullest. But GM's bean counters were too cheap! See, my problem with GM lies in the company as a whole, and its irresponsible leadership. The bottom line is that the OHV architecture is a finite one and they are running out of engineering possibilities. They must keep up with CAFE mandates, and they realize cylinder deactivation and tranny/final drive gearing tricks wont cut it anymore.
@9b8 once again i disagree.lol gms ls platform gets great gas mileage while still delivering great power. why change a 430hp l99(ls3) with a 6 speed auto that gets nearly 30mpg and runs 13.0s bone stock?
@BLACKLACDTS Yeah, thanks to cheesy tricks like cylinder deactivation and taller 1st gear and/or taller final drive! The stock vettes were notorious for that in the 90s ... first thing dudes would do uncork it to get the power back ... but there went the gas mileage too. GM have been playing a ducking game with their architecture and they are running out of options! Many are starting to realize that GM have been staying on the wrong engineering path and it is catching up with them.
@9b8 when i tuned my ls2 it got better gas mileage on top of 20+ horsepower! we will see in the future what happens. when the new zl1 camaro comes out it will sadly own the gt500. and since ford made the awsome new 5.0 and finally gave the ls3 camaro competition i excpect gm to up the base ss camaro a little more as well. the 2011 camaro ss already runs side by side with the new 5.0 and the new 5.0 is fords latest technology and now i think gm will make there move.450hp 2012 ss? :)
@BLACKLACDTS Do you ever pay attention what RPMs you run on the highway? And do you pay attention to the gearing? Check the gearing ratios on that tranny and you will see what I mean. I have no doubt that it feels lazy as hell at highway speeds until you punch it. But I guess fuel economy is fuel economy. I am sure GM is lowballing with the SS, SHOULD BE >=500HP. But again, with 6.2L, you bet your ass they should have ample head room! The trick they must focus on is, heh, the power/efficiency.
@BLACKLACDTS Someone recently tuned a 2011 GT 5.0L to 507 RWHP with statge I heads and cam. That's 576 FWHP, assuming 12% parasitic loss (EPAS and the new MT82 tranny is more efficient). See this vid: v=AdcOqkpKmug. Note the power curves ... it was still making power at 7500RPM. Don't be surprised if the next GT's don't pull a card out of their sleeve too for the SS. Surely they are paying attention to GM's strategy. And you can bet if there is another GT500, it will answer the ZL1. It's on!
@9b8 i am well aware of the coyote situation as i have a friend at the for front of the coyote movement runnin 10.90s in a all motor bolt on car with mild head work(revolution automotive) they were just in the first ever 2011 5.0 shootout. i understand everything your sayin but it took ford almost 20 years to come to this new 5.0 mod motor while gm was dominating with ls platforms since 97! i would love to see a coyote platform of maybe 5.8 cubic inches(351 hint) with a blower in the next gt500!
@BLACKLACDTS 10.90s all motor...nice! Any vids posted of it? I remember seeing a white 5.0L doing 10.90s somewhere, forgot where. It didn't take Ford 20 years to accomplish anything with the 5.0L. It's been steady for 20 years! You can't suddenly discredit the terminators, the Mach 1s, the R50 Cammer, Cobra R's 5.4L and so on. Every one of these have brung it and contributed to a forward moving technology path while sacrificing the frankly EASY displacement engineering philosophy. Shame on GM!
@9b8 i was always waiting for the mod motor to "arrive" since its debut in 96 but never happened. they tried supercharged versions,2valve,4 valve etc.. and in 2011 its has arrived.i will never discredit the terminators as they were the only mass produced mod motor ford that was crediable till the new 5.0. mach1s are slow stock and the 5.4 cobra r is extremly rare. the motor in the mach 1 was the same motor they put in the 93 lincoln so no gain there.and check "revolution autos 10.99" for the run
@BLACKLACDTS It is what it is, but the end result is that Ford has done it. And I dont view it as a matter of a 20 year struggle with GM and Chrysler in the pony wars. I dont think Ford lost sleep over "the big powerhouse" pony wars that GM and Chrysler still clearly want to play. As reflected in their designs, Ford is focused on bigger agendas. The whole old-school "performance engine" philsophy is getting tiresome IMHO. Further annoying, to me at least, is the archaic view of "performance."
@BLACKLACDTS the zl1 and every new camaro are over weighted, the new for 11 and 12 mustangs are sweeping the camaros off the board. how do u expect the zl1 with around the same hp as the new gt500 yet more weight to own the zl1. sorry bro i guess we'll have to see when it comes out but i have my money on the lighter gt500. and around a track? forget it.
@albatross2380 let me say this first i have a 93 mustang 5.0 and owned 3 stangs so far so dont think im all gm but i also have a trailblazer ss with the powerful ls2. gm has released press sayin they wouldnt be releasing the zl1 if it didnt beat the current gt500 in every aspect. i love the new stangs as much as anybody but dont sleep on the ls motors im tellin you they are beast! my truck is 5000lbs and runs 13.30s with a cai, tuner!!
@BLACKLACDTS not to bash ur 93 bro but its not even a true 5.0, just look at its displacement, even rounded up its 4.9 lol but thats not my point, i love mustangs, the new ones specifically and the classic 65's n 67's but like you(I presume) i'm a car enthusiast. i dont bash cars because I have a stringent code of only buying one brand. i buy cars based on facts and the way they make me feel behind the wheel. im not bashing ls motors, i think they r great actually.
@BLACKLACDTS hate the trailblazer lol, everyone I know who owns one says they are so unreliable, however your SS model is pretty damn quick. I have a 91 Range Rover Hunter I use for recreational use only and on the highway on my way to some hiking and four-wheeling I'll admit I got smoked by an SS Trailblazer haha
@albatross2380 its a great truck! havent had 1 problem! my ss has a few mods that really wake it up. you were a littl out of line messin with a ss in your range rover but if it went to the dirt you would dominate. my truck smokes the new super charged range rover sports.
@BLACKLACDTS haha yeah I figured my rover would, he was the one agitating me, so I humored him. I use it for off roading where its a true beast haha no need for high speed in the twisting trails. but yeah the new supercharged ones, although they are fast are just too heavy to compete with the competition. and now they are just too luxurious to get real muddy off-roading so unfortunately they are urban sidewalk queens lol
@albatross2380 the older rovers are amazing off road as are the newer ones but like you said how many people are goin to spend $80k and then take it thru the woods? lol all the new ranges around here are all on 24" rims and blinged out. theres is a few older dico's that are set up for wheeling but they are rare to see.
@BLACKLACDTS oh absolutely my 91' Rover Hunter never misses a beat off-road, and hey it even sports a GM engine which I'm sure you'd be happy with lol. I frequently pass full size 4x4's stuck in 2 ft of snow and just keep on chuggin through. its fun pulling out big trucks and getting asked what I have under the hood, only to their surprise I say only a 3.9L V8 haha. but its 4 wheel drive, gearing, tires, and breakover/departure angles are perfect for that stuff.
@albatross2380 oh yea there tuff. last year we got 4 feet of snow and our street wasnt plowed and nothing attempted our street for a day but then a new f350 made it up a expedtiton got stuck,z71 gmc got stuck, new f150 4x4 got stuck and then a guy comes up the street in a range rover(about a 96) with sum better tires and just idles up the street with no problem! lol shocked the entire block! lol
@BLACKLACDTS yea they are beasts, historically they were never about power until the recent horsepower war of attaching turbos and superchargers to everything, but they always excelled off-road. and what a lot of people, especially ones not familiar with off-roading, power is only as good as traction. for instance the Nissan GT-R is much quicker than many cars, not because it has astronomical power or even a light lotus like chassis but because of traction. awd, gearing, and tires are whats up
@BLACKLACDTS idk about zl1 as far as weight but yes the new gt500 is 3800 which is less than a camaro ss by about 100lbs, im guessing with the added supercharger and icreased engine weight of the cts-v engine thats going in zl1 and of course extra cooling for supercharger and i believe those magneo-torheological shocks r heavier, bigger brakes....you're looking at around 4,000 lbs give or take. idk the weight though as i said, just an educated guess
@BLACKLACDTS not to mention its going to be riding on the same shocks(magneo-torheological) as the zr1, cts-v, and carbon zo6 which sounds great but remember the corevettes are much lighter and the ctsv isa different niche of car...a fast gt or saloon, on the heavier camaro it will not ride as taut as the gt500 or the track star Boss 302. americans still want burnouts but we also want twisties to be tackled now like our european bretheren. Mustang puts out, Chevy, ur just too heavy
@BLACKLACDTS Remember the 03-04 Mach1 that went largely unoticed? Had a DOHC 4.6L NA rated at 305HP. With bolt ons many of them made 350HP+ and with heads/cams closer to 400HP. Also worth noting that this engine redlined at ~7K RPM. Sean Hyland Motorsports had been building DOHC 4.6L mod motors pumping out ~460HP NA. The northstar wasn't anything groundbreaking. Most have overlooked what Ford has been accomplishing with these "small" motors, until the coyote put a finger in everyone's face!
@9b8 i think i told you i own a 93 mustang lx 5.0 5 speed. i know every mustang and all the top shops. im just amazed at what gm's ls platform can accomplish with so little. actually the northstar sts was ground breaking as was the first lincoln coupe with a dohc 4.6 and they were put head to head in the early 90s. those luxury cars beat the sports cars offered at the time. i used to say the same as you about ford till i experienced my ls2. i dont fear anything on the street in my awd ls2!
@BLACKLACDTS I don't know, GM is in a tight spot right now and there has been a lot of talk about it among the engineering heads. If you wanna get technical, neither Ford nor GM DOHC designs were that ground breaking as Japan and Europe already did much the engineering bitch work. I think you are just drunk with speed/power, pal! Maybe us gear heads are just that way. But man am telling you, dig more into the engineering and you will start to see a much different picture. And I mean big picture.
@9b8 lexus has built sum of the best, most reliable and powerful dohc v8s ever. the 91-94 ls400 has a 4.0 dohc v8 that is capable of 300k miles and makes almost 300hp from 4.0 litres! i have seen multiple with 280k miles and still run like new! i understand the engineering point of view but i look at it like why change what works. until ford dominates gm like gm has been doin for the past 15 years i dont see the ls platform goin anywhere. oh and chrysler also is still doin pushrod motors
@BLACKLACDTS And I place chrysler in the same boat as GM (just as their company financial status has). You dig deep, and this stuff all interconnects. Yeah hats off to toyota and lexus their engineering - I've seen some absolutely BEAT on and neglected and still going strong. speaking of 400HP out of 4.0L, nod the BMW S65 for the same accomplishment. Further, I saw some shop over the pond that offers a unbored/stroked 500HP NA version...out of 4.0L. WOW! THIS is how I view "performance."
it probably has to rev to 9000 to get it though and has no low end torque. horse power tv reved the new 5.0 to 7300 and made 465bhp with the stock tune. i bet the boss engine really makes closer to 485 and could make more with a good tune.
@hedrick5286 Yeah, I'm not sure what the redline was but ur probably right, closer to 9000RPM. The Boss 5.0L I think is around 475bhp. With a good tune (and a 8000RPM redline) it would no doubt be in excess of 500bhp. Not sure how restrictive the Boss exhaust headers are, but if they are like the GT headers, that would be another 25-30bhp waiting to be claimed, putting it ever closer to 550bhp. And the new 5.0L is still in its "debut" no less! You watch what happens in the next year.
@hedrick5286 has plenty of torque, 380 lb ft, lost only 10 lb/ft of torque to the mustang gt and gained about 30 hp according to Ford with revised cams/lift n intake and increased revs...not bad considering the car it is directly created to pit against, the M3 only has 295 lb/ft of torque and less hp
Heck the stock GT whooped a BMW M3 on about all tests. The Boss 302 kills it, just as it has already done for a full race season. And for 25K less in price! But I gues
It isn't very special

sure it doesn't do 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds. sure it has a rear live axle. sure it doesn't have awd. sure it requires premium fuel for 444 hp. but man for an american car this baby friggin revs and the torque band is just on-spot. this is a well balanced machine that ford has done incredible things with. no tricks. no turbochargers. no superchargers. just pure V8 american muscle.

It's great this new Boss runs 11's, and after Kenne Bell builds a blower for it, it's going to be a load of fun on the street, just like every other Camaro, Mustang, Corvette, Charger. A word of advice, buy the car you LIKE, theres always going to be a faster one.

@ESPsandEmgs Where do you think Chevrolet got the Idea for the Camaro? The 64 1/2 Up Mustang....
cantbsdave 9 months ago
@cantbsdave
And where do you think Ford got the idea for Mustang?? Thats right! THE CORVETTE! Except the Mustang could never compete with the Corvette and Shelby himself called it a secretaries car. You can look up both facts yourself, what a lame retort, you should change your name to @BSdave
ESPsandEmgs 9 months ago
@ESPsandEmgs that's wrong..."Ford's" idea for the Mustang was created by John Najjar, and controlled by Lee Iacocca-it was never intended to compete with nor designed to imitate the Corvette in its final iteration. If anything, it was derived from Eurostyle sports cars with its original mid-engine rear drive. Ford created the "pony car" craze...if anything, it only furthered Chevrolet's Corvette reputation as the flagship of American performance, Shelby's comments notwithstanding.
txstang84 9 months ago
@txstang84
Uhm, actually no it's not wrong. Which would make you wrong.
ESPsandEmgs 9 months ago
@ESPsandEmgs Um, just because you say so, right? Which cites no verfiable information...oh well, e-thuggin' at it's best...I guess you were around in '61 when the Mustang materialized as two seat mid engined roadster to April '64 that produced a 2+2 coupe, fastback, and convertible. Bitchin' 'vette on your page though...
txstang84 9 months ago
@txstang84
ESPsandEmgs 9 months ago
@ESPsandEmgs alright, perhaps it was a "jab"...choose your replies inflamed by idiots and assholes on YT more wisely, and jabs will be less likely to come your way. My first statement is correct...Lee Iacocca was appointed as VP, hence controlled, when the Mustang (T-5 project) came to fruition...credit "given" to John Najjar for coining the name, Oros and some others for design/styling, design roots spawned from cues of Jaguars-pony car brought to life-solidified the Corvette in it's own class
txstang84 9 months ago
@ESPsandEmgs Did Shelby call it a secretary's car? Yes-I've read that before...but when the first '65 GT350s roared to life with a solid cammed 306 hp 289, that image was quickly altered, and they started winning races in SCCA...driven by the likes of Mark Donohue and Bob Johnson...Do I agree the '69 Z28 was BAMF? wholeheartedly-the Z had advantages over the 'stang...but people are people, and people commenting on YT are often asswipes-dont let them get to you...
txstang84 9 months ago
@txstang84
I would be happy to own either (maybe a little more so the 350 for its value), I am not a Ford hater, and I have to agree with you, most YouTubers don't have a clue what they are talking about and think whatever it is THEY like is gold and everything and everyone else is stupid.

ESPsandEmgs 9 months ago
@ESPsandEmgs yes there are faster cars, obviously. but in the same class as the mustang, the only formidable opponents i can think of hail from germany like an m3 or maybe even a carrera; but those are priced much higher than a camaro, or challenger. i wish chevy made the camaro as good as the 69 z28 because that's my personal favorite. the new camaro i feel like comes up short and the mustang blows it away.
utoobpwnsnbs 9 months ago
@utoobpwnsnbs
ESPsandEmgs 9 months ago
@utoobpwnsnbs the mustang would kick the m3's ass.
cammoronx7 8 months ago
@cammoronx7 oh I know. Even the mustang 5.0 can keep up with the M3 at the track. Because the team who developed the Boss aimed at beating the M3 and surpassed that goal by a long shot. The camaro can't claim that. and for an "american muscle car" (especially 1 that has a live rear axle in which people complain about) that can keep up with a sports car that has been considered 1 of the best; I think that is truly remarkable. The M3 is a great car, but it can get pricey...

@10fold77 Camaro and Mustangs are muscle cars, not sports cars. I personally think the new Mustang has lost some of its magic as a great muscle car, it's turning into a sports car (which is still great). Massive V8, huge noise, simple (but not dangerous) suspension/brakes/steering, and yellow paint is all a muscle car needs.
gunigugu1991 9 months ago
@gunigugu1991 I agree, but the boss in particular was never JUST a muscle car. It's always been a mustang for the track. I personally love this car. I think they did a great job on it. If you look at the stock 5.0... it doesn't get any more muscle car than that. I would take a mustang first then a challenger, then a camaro. You have to hand it to dodge for staying true to the roots of the challenger.... I like the camaros, but would have like to see a more nostalgic body style.
10fold77 9 months ago
@10fold77 I agree. I think the only track car chevy has is the corvette, more specifically the ZR-1. It would be nice if chevy wouldn't put off what could potentially be a great camaro, in the ZL-1, but they wait and there will probably be 3 more variants of the mustang, and possibly more of the challenger by then. GM has great potential in cars, but the hype and long wait period, like the new camaro really set them back.

They need at LEAST 295's for that power level - 305s or 315s being more ideal. sigh

This car is in a league of it's own no camaro could stand up to this BEAST!!!!! And the zl1 is gm trying to compete with the gt500 not a mustang boss so y would u compare the two. Even tho the new boss would
Probably still kick it's butt being naturally aspirated.
ppropps 11 months ago
@ppropps Nah 112 more horsepower is easily enough for the ZL1 to beat it. However the GT500 will beat a ZL1, However I won't be suprised if they put the LSA in the Z06 in 2012 instead of the LS7 as Chevy doesn't want a Camaro with more power than a Vette, and that should beat a GT500 (less weight and better aerodynamics than Camaro) Though I'm just throwing out ideas, speaking of ideas I think Chrysler needs an SC Challenger, the 392 sounds good but that'll make it faster than what, an SS?
RidX4Ricers 11 months ago
i have a 2011 gt and it is much nicer inside than the old mustang, it rides smooth, gets good gas mileage, and handles really well. My team leader at work has a new camaro it has the ugliest interior and is very poorly madeand he complains all the time about not being able to see very well. and as far as power goes it only puts about 360 to 370 to the wheels with a manual and 330 to 340 with an automatic were as the mustang puts about 380 +/- to the wheels so ford is probably not being honest.
hedrick5286 11 months ago
@hedrick5286 Actually the 5.0 is SAE certified at 411 hp which is surprising considering what it puts to the rear wheels.
vix121 11 months ago
@hedrick5286 motortrend dynod it and it had more hp than Ford claimed so either ur lying about owning one or u got a shitty car

I can't resist saying it, I would buy a USED BMW M3 E92 over any model NEW gaymaro or CTS-V ANY day!

@9b8 cause you dont respect hot rodding. dont knock it till you ru it. i have a mustang 5.0 and a gm ls2 vehical.i love them both. i respect performance no matter what it is.
BLACKLACDTS 1 year ago
@BLACKLACDTS I absolutely respect hot rodding. I grew up around a 32 Ford turtle back, a 49 chevy truck, dune buggies, Baja VW, corvairs, heavy machinery and everything in between. And I've done my share of tinkering in the shop. Perhaps I get too philosophical, but I have fundamental disagreement with GM's approach, management, and market manipulation: IMHO irresponsible engineering practices (e.g. passive participation in ground-breaking technology development), market bloat, QA/QM issues, etc
9b8 1 year ago
@9b8 the ls platform has took the performance world by storm and is dominate over any n/a mod motor ford. mod for mod the ls motor is dominate. it may be a pushrod but evrybody else i.e ford, mopar have tried to duplicate it sum way or another. its a great engine that makes big power with very little like the new 5.0 ford.
BLACKLACDTS 1 year ago
@BLACKLACDTS I guess we'll have to agree to disagree as litre per litre it doesn't add up. Consider a 5.4L modular and a 5.3L vortech for example. If I still ran a 351, 390, etc in my Mustang I'd come to expect a heap of performance too. Have no doubt that other engine manufacturers could build great performing larger displacement OHV/pushrod engines if so desired. If you look at power curves for most LS engines they run out of air up top. Indeed they are torquey ... thanks to displacement.
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 we will not agree i see.lol the ls motors breat better then built motors thats why a simple cam swap makes such a big difference. take for instance all motor numbers from 99, gms 4.8 275hp fords 4.6 260hp,gm 5.7 ls1 350hp fords 5.4 280 its about time ford caught up and im proud of them. i cant wait to see what time shows about the new fords.
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS For sure many of the LS engines breathe well at mid-range with enough headroom leftover - that is their design target really. Not so much on high-end (>7K RPM). The cam swaps is a no brainer, most gains coming the higher lift and a little from duration. Note that GM architectures favor a higher lift profile than Ford's, with .6" lift not being uncommon. This is going to change soon though as GM is FINALLY pursuing OHC V8 architecture. That is when it will get really interesting.
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 dont say that! lol i know gm knows how to build a engine for performance so i am ready to see what they offer but i really dont see them changing the LS platform. ford just now steped up to sum nasty n/a engines that are competitive to what gm has been doin since 98. i love where ford is headed but i see gm just upgrading a few things on the ls platform and not a complete change. only time will tell.
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS LOL! Man, you and I been going back and forth and wont give up! Its all good. We keep one another in check and disallow ignorant bullshit. I respect that! Well, I would LOVE to see balanced competiton! I don't know, I think if GM also joined the OHC world, it could get interesting! Same as if Ford would finally advance their suspension gemetry on their Mustang platform... something with some chicken bones in it! But I'm still bragging on Ford's coyote 5.0L outflowing the LS3 6.2L!
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 all in fun as long as we dont get ignorant to each other we can have great debates.im a diehard mustang fan and own a 5.0 i also love chevy and own a ls2 6.0 trailblazer ss! the new coyote is a pure beast and i was exstatic to find out it was comin back. i dont know if the 5.0 is outflowing the ls3. if you had a stock 5.0 in a 3000lb drag car and made a few passes then swaped to the ls3 i really believe the ls3 would be victorious. these LS motors are simply amazing.as is the new 5.0
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS The coyote 5.0L motor definitely outflows the LS3, even with porting. The LS3 flows around 330 something cfm at .550" lift whereas the coyote is reported to flow 5% better than GT500 heads (330cfm) which would be around 346cfm at .500" lift. The interesting thing is after .500" lift, the LS3 dies out flowing less than peak while the coyote still flows more. Liversnois stated that with ported coyote heads they are seeing beyond 400cfm. I know modified LS3's are seeing 380cfm at least
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 i know the coyote heads flow better then gt500 heads but i have seen modified l92/ls3 flow 400+ in street applications
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS As are lightly modified coyote heads seeing beyond 400cfm.
9b8 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS I better mention that I meant GM is pursuing the OHC V8 platform in their PERFORMANCE V8 lineup. I'm aware of their Northstar engines that were OHC - but they didn't commit to the technology across the entire board. The word is that they are looking to now commit to the OHC architecture through and through ... time will tell how it pans out as it is a big step to take. Just ask Ford, LOL.
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 honestly i dont see a need to change the current platform for gm. i had a 03 dts with the 300hp northstar and it was a powerhouse for only a 4.6 so if they did that motor only with 6.0 liters it would be a 500hp motor. i dont see them changing the ls platform anytime soon and hope they dont either.
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS I don't, but that is the story I've read in forums and other news. I think the reason being that they - like the rest of the world - are pressued to build more efficient engines, not just powerhourses. But I agree with that northstar 4.6L DOHC motor ... seemed to be a good performing engine.
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 heres what i learned about the northstar motor while i owned it. its severly detuned to 300hp from 4.6 litres.guys who cracked the computer on them were able to tune the newer cars(2000 up) and gain a full second in the 1/4 mile and 50+hp equating to 13 second fwd 4 door cadillacs! my car was over 4200lbs,fwd and was capable of runnin mid to high 14s on 87 octane!!!! (87 is recommended) heres a finger pointed in your face! lol you know about early 90s vettes with dohc v8s??? huh?? zr1!!!
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS Yeah, it was a shame they didn't invest HEAVILY into that engine platform and use it to the fullest. But GM's bean counters were too cheap! See, my problem with GM lies in the company as a whole, and its irresponsible leadership. The bottom line is that the OHV architecture is a finite one and they are running out of engineering possibilities. They must keep up with CAFE mandates, and they realize cylinder deactivation and tranny/final drive gearing tricks wont cut it anymore.
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 once again i disagree.lol gms ls platform gets great gas mileage while still delivering great power. why change a 430hp l99(ls3) with a 6 speed auto that gets nearly 30mpg and runs 13.0s bone stock?
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS Yeah, thanks to cheesy tricks like cylinder deactivation and taller 1st gear and/or taller final drive! The stock vettes were notorious for that in the 90s ... first thing dudes would do uncork it to get the power back ... but there went the gas mileage too. GM have been playing a ducking game with their architecture and they are running out of options! Many are starting to realize that GM have been staying on the wrong engineering path and it is catching up with them.
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 when i tuned my ls2 it got better gas mileage on top of 20+ horsepower! we will see in the future what happens. when the new zl1 camaro comes out it will sadly own the gt500. and since ford made the awsome new 5.0 and finally gave the ls3 camaro competition i excpect gm to up the base ss camaro a little more as well. the 2011 camaro ss already runs side by side with the new 5.0 and the new 5.0 is fords latest technology and now i think gm will make there move.450hp 2012 ss? :)
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS Do you ever pay attention what RPMs you run on the highway? And do you pay attention to the gearing? Check the gearing ratios on that tranny and you will see what I mean. I have no doubt that it feels lazy as hell at highway speeds until you punch it. But I guess fuel economy is fuel economy. I am sure GM is lowballing with the SS, SHOULD BE >=500HP. But again, with 6.2L, you bet your ass they should have ample head room! The trick they must focus on is, heh, the power/efficiency.
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 actually my ride is all wheel drive with 4.10 gears,20" wheels,4 speed auto,400hp ls2 and 5000lbs and gets 20mpg and is not lazy on the highway.
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
It's on!
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 i am well aware of the coyote situation as i have a friend at the for front of the coyote movement runnin 10.90s in a all motor bolt on car with mild head work(revolution automotive) they were just in the first ever 2011 5.0 shootout. i understand everything your sayin but it took ford almost 20 years to come to this new 5.0 mod motor while gm was dominating with ls platforms since 97! i would love to see a coyote platform of maybe 5.8 cubic inches(351 hint) with a blower in the next gt500!
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS 10.90s all motor...nice! Any vids posted of it? I remember seeing a white 5.0L doing 10.90s somewhere, forgot where. It didn't take Ford 20 years to accomplish anything with the 5.0L. It's been steady for 20 years! You can't suddenly discredit the terminators, the Mach 1s, the R50 Cammer, Cobra R's 5.4L and so on. Every one of these have brung it and contributed to a forward moving technology path while sacrificing the frankly EASY displacement engineering philosophy. Shame on GM!
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 i was always waiting for the mod motor to "arrive" since its debut in 96 but never happened. they tried supercharged versions,2valve,4 valve etc.. and in 2011 its has arrived.i will never discredit the terminators as they were the only mass produced mod motor ford that was crediable till the new 5.0. mach1s are slow stock and the 5.4 cobra r is extremly rare. the motor in the mach 1 was the same motor they put in the 93 lincoln so no gain there.and check "revolution autos 10.99" for the run
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS It is what it is, but the end result is that Ford has done it. And I dont view it as a matter of a 20 year struggle with GM and Chrysler in the pony wars. I dont think Ford lost sleep over "the big powerhouse" pony wars that GM and Chrysler still clearly want to play. As reflected in their designs, Ford is focused on bigger agendas. The whole old-school "performance engine" philsophy is getting tiresome IMHO. Further annoying, to me at least, is the archaic view of "performance."
9b8 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS the zl1 and every new camaro are over weighted, the new for 11 and 12 mustangs are sweeping the camaros off the board. how do u expect the zl1 with around the same hp as the new gt500 yet more weight to own the zl1. sorry bro i guess we'll have to see when it comes out but i have my money on the lighter gt500. and around a track? forget it.
albatross2380 10 months ago
@albatross2380 let me say this first i have a 93 mustang 5.0 and owned 3 stangs so far so dont think im all gm but i also have a trailblazer ss with the powerful ls2. gm has released press sayin they wouldnt be releasing the zl1 if it didnt beat the current gt500 in every aspect. i love the new stangs as much as anybody but dont sleep on the ls motors im tellin you they are beast! my truck is 5000lbs and runs 13.30s with a cai, tuner!!
BLACKLACDTS 10 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS not to bash ur 93 bro but its not even a true 5.0, just look at its displacement, even rounded up its 4.9 lol but thats not my point, i love mustangs, the new ones specifically and the classic 65's n 67's but like you(I presume) i'm a car enthusiast. i dont bash cars because I have a stringent code of only buying one brand. i buy cars based on facts and the way they make me feel behind the wheel. im not bashing ls motors, i think they r great actually.
albatross2380 10 months ago
@albatross2380 your presumtion is correct. it seems we have simular intrest.
BLACKLACDTS 10 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS haha sweet, dove-tailing interests. so alil off topic, what truck do you have?
albatross2380 10 months ago
@albatross2380 i have a TRAILBLAZER SS
BLACKLACDTS 10 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS hate the trailblazer lol, everyone I know who owns one says they are so unreliable, however your SS model is pretty damn quick. I have a 91 Range Rover Hunter I use for recreational use only and on the highway on my way to some hiking and four-wheeling I'll admit I got smoked by an SS Trailblazer haha
albatross2380 10 months ago
@albatross2380 its a great truck! havent had 1 problem! my ss has a few mods that really wake it up. you were a littl out of line messin with a ss in your range rover but if it went to the dirt you would dominate. my truck smokes the new super charged range rover sports.
BLACKLACDTS 10 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS haha yeah I figured my rover would, he was the one agitating me, so I humored him. I use it for off roading where its a true beast haha no need for high speed in the twisting trails. but yeah the new supercharged ones, although they are fast are just too heavy to compete with the competition. and now they are just too luxurious to get real muddy off-roading so unfortunately they are urban sidewalk queens lol
albatross2380 10 months ago
@albatross2380 the older rovers are amazing off road as are the newer ones but like you said how many people are goin to spend $80k and then take it thru the woods? lol all the new ranges around here are all on 24" rims and blinged out. theres is a few older dico's that are set up for wheeling but they are rare to see.
BLACKLACDTS 10 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS oh absolutely my 91' Rover Hunter never misses a beat off-road, and hey it even sports a GM engine which I'm sure you'd be happy with lol. I frequently pass full size 4x4's stuck in 2 ft of snow and just keep on chuggin through. its fun pulling out big trucks and getting asked what I have under the hood, only to their surprise I say only a 3.9L V8 haha. but its 4 wheel drive, gearing, tires, and breakover/departure angles are perfect for that stuff.
albatross2380 10 months ago
@albatross2380 oh yea there tuff. last year we got 4 feet of snow and our street wasnt plowed and nothing attempted our street for a day but then a new f350 made it up a expedtiton got stuck,z71 gmc got stuck, new f150 4x4 got stuck and then a guy comes up the street in a range rover(about a 96) with sum better tires and just idles up the street with no problem! lol shocked the entire block! lol
BLACKLACDTS 10 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS yea they are beasts, historically they were never about power until the recent horsepower war of attaching turbos and superchargers to everything, but they always excelled off-road. and what a lot of people, especially ones not familiar with off-roading, power is only as good as traction. for instance the Nissan GT-R is much quicker than many cars, not because it has astronomical power or even a light lotus like chassis but because of traction. awd, gearing, and tires are whats up
albatross2380 10 months ago 2
@albatross2380 oh yea i know my truck is awd and i can beat other vehicals with much more power on the street.
BLACKLACDTS 10 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS what a lot of people dont understand* oops lol
albatross2380 10 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS howeverrrrr, I still believe the camaro zl1 is going to be too heavy and just wont dance as well as the stang. thats all lol.
albatross2380 10 months ago
@albatross2380 are you forgeting that the gt500 is no lightweight. its 3800lbs too. they both are about the same weight.
BLACKLACDTS 10 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS idk about zl1 as far as weight but yes the new gt500 is 3800 which is less than a camaro ss by about 100lbs, im guessing with the added supercharger and icreased engine weight of the cts-v engine thats going in zl1 and of course extra cooling for supercharger and i believe those magneo-torheological shocks r heavier, bigger brakes....you're looking at around 4,000 lbs give or take. idk the weight though as i said, just an educated guess
albatross2380 10 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS not to mention its going to be riding on the same shocks(magneo-torheological) as the zr1, cts-v, and carbon zo6 which sounds great but remember the corevettes are much lighter and the ctsv isa different niche of car...a fast gt or saloon, on the heavier camaro it will not ride as taut as the gt500 or the track star Boss 302. americans still want burnouts but we also want twisties to be tackled now like our european bretheren. Mustang puts out, Chevy, ur just too heavy
albatross2380 10 months ago
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 i think i told you i own a 93 mustang lx 5.0 5 speed. i know every mustang and all the top shops. im just amazed at what gm's ls platform can accomplish with so little. actually the northstar sts was ground breaking as was the first lincoln coupe with a dohc 4.6 and they were put head to head in the early 90s. those luxury cars beat the sports cars offered at the time. i used to say the same as you about ford till i experienced my ls2. i dont fear anything on the street in my awd ls2!
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS I don't know, GM is in a tight spot right now and there has been a lot of talk about it among the engineering heads. If you wanna get technical, neither Ford nor GM DOHC designs were that ground breaking as Japan and Europe already did much the engineering bitch work. I think you are just drunk with speed/power, pal! Maybe us gear heads are just that way. But man am telling you, dig more into the engineering and you will start to see a much different picture. And I mean big picture.
9b8 11 months ago
@9b8 lexus has built sum of the best, most reliable and powerful dohc v8s ever. the 91-94 ls400 has a 4.0 dohc v8 that is capable of 300k miles and makes almost 300hp from 4.0 litres! i have seen multiple with 280k miles and still run like new! i understand the engineering point of view but i look at it like why change what works. until ford dominates gm like gm has been doin for the past 15 years i dont see the ls platform goin anywhere. oh and chrysler also is still doin pushrod motors
BLACKLACDTS 11 months ago
@BLACKLACDTS And I place chrysler in the same boat as GM (just as their company financial status has). You dig deep, and this stuff all interconnects. Yeah hats off to toyota and lexus their engineering - I've seen some absolutely BEAT on and neglected and still going strong. speaking of 400HP out of 4.0L, nod the BMW S65 for the same accomplishment. Further, I saw some shop over the pond that offers a unbored/stroked 500HP NA version...out of 4.0L. WOW! THIS is how I view "performance."
9b8 11 months ago
it probably has to rev to 9000 to get it though and has no low end torque. horse power tv reved the new 5.0 to 7300 and made 465bhp with the stock tune. i bet the boss engine really makes closer to 485 and could make more with a good tune.
hedrick5286 11 months ago
@hedrick5286 Yeah, I'm not sure what the redline was but ur probably right, closer to 9000RPM. The Boss 5.0L I think is around 475bhp. With a good tune (and a 8000RPM redline) it would no doubt be in excess of 500bhp. Not sure how restrictive the Boss exhaust headers are, but if they are like the GT headers, that would be another 25-30bhp waiting to be claimed, putting it ever closer to 550bhp. And the new 5.0L is still in its "debut" no less! You watch what happens in the next year.
9b8 11 months ago
@hedrick5286 has plenty of torque, 380 lb ft, lost only 10 lb/ft of torque to the mustang gt and gained about 30 hp according to Ford with revised cams/lift n intake and increased revs...not bad considering the car it is directly created to pit against, the M3 only has 295 lb/ft of torque and less hp
albatross2380 10 months ago
@9b8 then dont watch these videos that are made for real men who drive REAL cars.
errenthovsep 1 year ago
@9b8 well of course lol
albatross2380 10 months ago
Heck the stock GT whooped a BMW M3 on about all tests. The Boss 302 kills it, just as it has already done for a full race season. And for 25K less in price! But I gues
