Something's locked inside of my soul too... and it's unfathomably insane bullshit from the Jerry Lewis Telethon 1978! Thanks MANAKIN you beautiful so and so's you!
This is creepy beyond imagination! The bass player looks downright embarassed (although I do like his Dell Computer "cow pants"). I don't think these guys had the desired effect for this Telethon ... I think dollars were actually SUBTRACTED during their performance!
@midiman56 hahaha yeah if i was on the phone donating money and these guys came on i would demand they give me my money back and then some to cover the audio and visual pain and suffering i was being subjected to.
Thank god for The Ramones. That fruity Yes-type/Rick Wakeman keyboard patch is super nauseating. Well, maybe cuz I was laughing so hard my hernia popped. That music is as gross as a bowling alley bar room carpet. All Galaxian and sh#+.
@nsbd90now the fact that it's weird isn't that surprising, since it centers around a frontman wearing a haltertop and a barbie mask doing mime interpretive dance and a bass player in cow pants. the fact it's good is surprising, but it actually is very, very good.
@LiberaLib I have to laugh because I don't completely recall this vid, nor commenting on it, nor where my comment is about it! Having said that, yeah, the song is good. But the manikin thing freaks me out so badly I almost shut it off within seconds. Way too demonic-doll horror movie for me. (though the ability to move like that, and in that era is truly progressive, but I still didn't watch all that) I am now curious what my original comment could possibly have been...
I am Guy Eckstine, I replaced the drummer in the band shortly after this. Bob Walker- gtr, Andre La Chambre- bass, Ron Hogarty- keys, Brent Willams- vocals. We did a lot of gigs in LA clubs from 78-81. I became an A&R Exec and Producer, Brent is a pastor in Hawaii, I dont know what happened to the other guys, We showcased for A&M records and then the keyboardist quit the band at the worst possible time, I left shortly thereafter. What a band!
Unreal..twilight zone stuff... Me being a South Bay prog head, I knew the singer Brent... we shared the same girlfriend(RIP), loved all the same bands. And yet I never saw Manakin perform, so this is a treat. Where's Rod Serling? Or Michael Piper (RIP) ?????
Appropriate mime sequence at the beginning, given the name of the song. Apt donor scrolling on the bottom of the screen at around 3:59. Also notice that the money counter never changes from 46315 during the entire performance.
To be fair, the total looks to be of the marquee type that fast food restaurants have. It actually takes someone with a ladder to come by and manually change the clear plastic tiles.
This is awesome lol Lead Singer is a mix between Peter Gabriel and Lou Reed...

Coming from a big prog fan, I think it's actually a catchy tune!
Love the Rick bass tone! Though the frontman is taking ALL his cues from Peter Gabriel-era Genesis.

By all accounts I'd expect this to be really old and cheesy (which it is), but I actually like their music. Imagine that.

Viewing this has scarred me thanks to:
1. The shock of having a Skip Stevenson flashback with NO WARNING.
2. The FREAK onstage.
3. The bass players pants
4. Seriously, the FREAK onstage
5. The prog music with again, NO WARNING.
If I was a kid and I saw this I'd pee my pants and have to sleep with the lights on for a week.
