  • This is awesome lol Lead Singer is a mix between Peter Gabriel and Lou Reed...

  • Epic song tho

  • Cocaine & Acid

  • ...

  • it's all about bass player's cowhide pattern leather pants.

  • @sanpeeps More cowhide!

  • Coming from a big prog fan, I think it's actually a catchy tune!

Love the Rick bass tone! Though the frontman is taking ALL his cues from Peter Gabriel-era Genesis.

  • Something's locked inside of my soul too... and it's unfathomably insane bullshit from the Jerry Lewis Telethon 1978! Thanks MANAKIN you beautiful so and so's you!

  • Fucking awesome, progtastic!

  • u wat

    u lose

  • DAD?!

  • And this is NINETEEN SEVENTY EIGHT. America, there was no excuse. None.

  • This is the kind of shit kids watch and then grow up to be serial killers.

  • This is creepy beyond imagination! The bass player looks downright embarassed (although I do like his Dell Computer "cow pants"). I don't think these guys had the desired effect for this Telethon ... I think dollars were actually SUBTRACTED during their performance!

  • @midiman56 hahaha yeah if i was on the phone donating money and these guys came on i would demand they give me my money back and then some to cover the audio and visual pain and suffering i was being subjected to.

  • Wow' it's like Gino Vanelli meets Styx meets Gentle Giant. Something I could only imagine in a nightmare....

  • HOW did he get that mask on and off so perfectly...it was a mask, eh? eh?

  • There's nothing creepy abut that mask. Nothing at all.

  • mannequins are terrifying.

  • Excellent! I wish this band had recorded an album.

  • i think i pissed my pants hhhhahahah

  • Luigi on drums! Great catch.

    Skip Stevenson warning a gem.

    Send that bill in.

Thank god for The Ramones. That fruity Yes-type/Rick Wakeman keyboard patch is super nauseating. Well, maybe cuz I was laughing so hard my hernia popped. That music is as gross as a bowling alley bar room carpet. All Galaxian and sh#+.

For a speedy recovery: Mercyful Fate - EVIL!

  • By all accounts I'd expect this to be really old and cheesy (which it is), but I actually like their music. Imagine that.

  • Disturbing on so many levels...

  • That was surprisingly weird proggy goodness.

  • @nsbd90now the fact that it's weird isn't that surprising, since it centers around a frontman wearing a haltertop and a barbie mask doing mime interpretive dance and a bass player in cow pants. the fact it's good is surprising, but it actually is very, very good.

  • @LiberaLib I have to laugh because I don't completely recall this vid, nor commenting on it, nor where my comment is about it! Having said that, yeah, the song is good. But the manikin thing freaks me out so badly I almost shut it off within seconds. Way too demonic-doll horror movie for me. (though the ability to move like that, and in that era is truly progressive, but I still didn't watch all that) I am now curious what my original comment could possibly have been...

  • @LiberaLib Oh, there's my comment. Hey, even with a halter top and barbie mask that is surprisingly weird! :)

  • Dawson mentions "we're going to hear more from them later". did they do another tune and is there footage out there?

  • That singer makes Dennis DeYoung look metal.

  • Thanks, I'm going to have nightmares about this and probably have an emergency appt. with my therapist. I'll send you the bill ok?

  • Wow...Weird but F'ing awesome! I love this... Where's the information on Wikipedia or anywhere else for that matter? Reunion possible?

  • 4:58 Richard Dawson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Really, really strange. Not sure if seeing this ruined my dreams or made my weekend!

  • WOW I was there when they taped this. Fun Fun times. Thanks for the memory of those crazy days.

  • I am Guy Eckstine, I replaced the drummer in the band shortly after this. Bob Walker- gtr, Andre La Chambre- bass, Ron Hogarty- keys, Brent Willams- vocals. We did a lot of gigs in LA clubs from 78-81. I became an A&R Exec and Producer, Brent is a pastor in Hawaii, I dont know what happened to the other guys, We showcased for A&M records and then the keyboardist quit the band at the worst possible time, I left shortly thereafter. What a band!

  • Did you release an album?? I really want to get my hands on some of your music.

  • i love the intro, "we're going to hear from a... uh... some other people...."

  • What ever happened to this band? Is their anything at all like that of Boney M's?

  • YAH MAN KEWLLLLL LUV IT

  • Unreal..twilight zone stuff... Me being a South Bay prog head, I knew the singer Brent... we shared the same girlfriend(RIP), loved all the same bands. And yet I never saw Manakin perform, so this is a treat. Where's Rod Serling? Or Michael Piper (RIP) ?????

  • Cool. Whatever became of the band? Were they just a local thing or did they go fairly far?

  • i like how the drummer dressed up like Luigi

  • The music is actually really good.

  • lol! can you say "Genesis influence"?

Strange frontman, Rickenbacker bass, yeah- Genesis.

But I actually liked the song!

  • Appropriate mime sequence at the beginning, given the name of the song. Apt donor scrolling on the bottom of the screen at around 3:59. Also notice that the money counter never changes from 46315 during the entire performance.

  • 46315!!!!

  • To be fair, the total looks to be of the marquee type that fast food restaurants have. It actually takes someone with a ladder to come by and manually change the clear plastic tiles.

  • You're right. I forgot it's 1978. :-)

  • he's eating the mic!!!!

  • Good ol' Skip Stevenson.

  • my mind has just been broken

  • thats exactly how i feel.. i just cant figure out what the hell just happened

    people like mimes

    people like prog rock

    people like robots

with all that stuff that people like i cant see why on earth they never made it?

  • throw away the key...

  • This rocks! Reminds me of the Sparks.

  • I love this.

  • fucking creeeepy.

  • this

    is

    amazing.

  • i love how the camera tries to follow him!!!

  • Yeah..... I was 5 in '78, and I'm preeeeetty sure this would've scared the crap out of me.

  • Queen & Kansas/Styx with a tinge of ELP. This is why YouTube was invented.

  • props to Rainn Dawg!

  • Thanks for the suggestion Rainn!

  • This is truly incredible

  • excellent....

  • I'm glad to know Brent is saved. I'm a brother in Christ, but this makes me cringe.

I blame Kansas, Gentle Giant and Styx.

  • Too cool, Brent...

    You guys sound like Genesis...

I remember gigging with your band...

    Fun times...
