  • first i discover George moshington and the xboston tea bag partyx now hipster Edison

  • Comment removed

  • The video is real, but it's not Edison riding, it's some circus performer.

  • original hipster right there

  • so our bulbs were invented by a hipster?

  • worlds first hipster

  • Fuck edison , tesla was the man

  • Fake this shit isn't fucking real at all they didn't have fixies till the 1950s and film till 1903

  • @TieDyeMan1998 You know, fixed gear bicycles have been around a lot longer than that. The first bikes were fixed gear bikes before derailleurs were made. The first camera to store stuff on a reel of film was before 1890.

  • @TieDyeMan1998 That's right. All they had was the hobby horse until 1949.

  • @TieDyeMan1998 both of those comments are wrong, I am not saying the video is real, I am only saying you are an idiot.

  • @TieDyeMan1998 Haha Nope. First film dates from 1888. This is real alright. The term "Fixie" is later but people performing tricks on bicycles predates 1953 by many decades I can assure you.

  • Edison is a nooob!!

    So is his friend

  • fucking hipsters...

  • As you can see, tire clearance on that bike is very good =D

  • fett

  • FRES!-!

  • FRES!

  • @baldurus1 you are so right.he is a jerk and a thief...he burn Tesla factory because it was a great oponent and argue "you don;t understand american humor"...and now Nicola Tesla is known as an "american patriot" even so he died in misery f**ck this is bulshit

  • hes better than me

  • this guy is well advance!!!

  • The Edison company invented the first movie camera!! Very great job Thomas Edison !! And the Edison Phonograph was the forerunner of the Turntable !!

  • Edison, you lying stealing thief. Didn't invent squat, stole everything from Tesla. His assistants where the ones doing the inventing for him. Stole the movie voyage de la lune from George Melies. Edison should be taken out of the history books.

  • what a nice film

    nice skills edison

  • how would you know that thomas edison is filming?

  • @3falloutboyroxx because I was there.

  • man that bike looks big on him lol

  • one word. STEADYCAM old man...

  • deeeyyummm edison got barspins on lock LETS SEE KEO SPINS

  • so this must be the 19th century version of a biker :D cooooool! Shame he didnt do any wheelies :/

  • lol this is prob some1 looks like thomas

  • Thomas Edison knew what was up with the fixies? He probably blazed it too...

  • wtf was this made like 100 years ago lol

  • it's unbeliveable!!!! =D

  • Ha ha, this guy did the fixed thing long before the trend and without the attitude! Im rolling...

  • thats some history right there

  • i <3 this fuckin video

  • Awesome film footage of a daring 19th century cyclist in action! ;-D

    The Cycling Dude

  • Lol some strait up gangsta 1899 bike tricks.

  • the first fixie pro

  • thats awesome

  • all of you should get your facts from something other than The Prestige.

    it's a cool fixie vid.

  • perhaps you could read a history book on Mr Tesla you'll see most of these claims of genuis are true about him

    jakobiss

  • no thanks

    i prefer wikipedia

and it's Jakob is so dope

    not jakobiss

  • i don't give a fuck about your youtube handle,maybe you

can look that up on wikipedia

  • Tesla is god!!!!

  • R.I.P Nikola Tesla. We will never forget you.

  • lmfao 1800's bmxing

  • History always forgets the good guys and remembers bad people like Thomas Edison. Did you know that Nikola Tesla was way ahead of this guy and he copied his ideas. Edison promised to pay Tesla money for his work but he broke his promise and told him to fuck off. And today we worship Edison?!

  • Everyone thumbs you down, but to be honest you're quite right. But Edison merely used his electrical studies, he came up with most of the rest on his own. And it's true, he never repaid Tesla. Tesla is probably the worlds greatest scientist as far as electricity is concerned, but he gets little of no credit. Plus he could totally kill you with his bada** coils!

  • why don't you stick edison up your asses, those who respect him ! he was a pussy, liar, ideas-stealer, fraud, money-loving bitch! NT is a legend, and heaven sent!

  • is this real??

  • Heck yeah this movie was made in 1899 and Mr Edison is filming by the way .

  • "nd done something good"

What he did? all he did was stealing other peoples inventions. Nice idol you have there...

    "plus he was rich"

    This makes Edison better person???

  • fixies weighed 200 punds then, because they were made of solid iron

  • Nonsense. They were made of brazed, hollow, steel tubing, minimalist diamond frame, wooden (LIGHTWEIGHT) rims and carbon steel spokes (STRONG). There is nothing "superior" about a full sized fixie of today, not at basis. "Solid iron": NOT.

The men who pioneered bikes and innovative designs we only think, today, are new, were made of solid iron, not their steeds.

  • ha ha

  • Edison was an asshole. While Testla died in poverty, Edison died on a pile of cash in a 'fuck you, Testla' shirt he didn't design.

  • yeah but i'll bet he at least spelled tesla's name right on the shirt...

  • OMG owned. XD

  • yeah! there can be only one medicine for awful disease called edison. : ) and it's NT #3

  • We are at a time in history 100 years down the track where the excitement of Nikola Tesla, Wright Bros, Karl Benz, Henry Ford and his mass produced Motor Car, Alexander Graham Bell, Guglielmo Marconi, Thomas Edison and his wonderful inventions & others that paved the development of the 20th Century has been reinstalled into the hearts and minds of those engaged in the development of technology passing into the 21st Century.

  • Actually, wright bros suck too, they stole from Montgomery...

  • Montgomery Burns?

  • We are at a time in history 100 years down the the track where the excitement of Henry Ford and his Motor Car, Thomas Edison and his wonderful inventions that paved the development of the 20th Century has been reinstalled into the hearts and minds of those engaged in the development of

technology passing into the 21st Century.

  • fuck Edison. TESLA FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the video. I'll have an exam tomorrow, and it was a great help!!!

    Kisses!

    Lorena, Argentina!

  • grate short film .

  • Edison was an ass hole, just a businessman who profited a lot nothing more...He might of invented an light bulb, but it was the GENIUS NIKOLA TESLA who gave us AC electricity and much more, and TESLA wanted to give the world a free electricity, but it was morons like Thomas Edison him self who destroyed TESLA...

  • Right on! Tesla was so awesome! Edison was just a capitalist pig.

  • Yeah! Tesla was a much better inventor. He gave us so much more important stuff than Edison!

  • @caruga95 Hey im croatian! and nicholas tesla is coool also edison is to but dont be mean man a 9 yrs old talking to yo right now

  • Edison filled it. That's not Edison in the movie. He never wore a mustache and he would have been in his late 40's if the date is correct.

  • that is edison. he started riding fixies sometime in the early 1890s, i think.

of course he only got into them after he saw nikola tesla doin some dope tricks on a fixie.

  • Lol'd

  • CHAV.

  • Who Invented the Lightbulb?

It was Thomas Edison in 1879, wasn't it? That's what many people think and were taught in school since we live in America where our president believes that American is the only superpower and we should just do what we want to do. Anyways the man behind the creation of the light bulb is Nikola Tesla a Serbian inventor, and since his death Americans wanted the credit to Edison since "America is the Best"

  • Nice data

  • that's funny considering Tesla was an American citizen who happened to be born in Serbia, so I guess an American still invented teh lightbulb by your logic... epic fail

  • Tesla did NOT invent the incandecent bulb,he did however build the first floursent tube light

  • this is why biking is superior to skating.

    XD

  • Looks like einstein on the bike

  • On first play, this video is on fast forward,, When I replay, it's fine,, Weird,,

  • No, it's not fake. Maybe do some research into Edison's films.

  • You rock Neibert!

  • This is soooo badass.

  • :D !!!!!!!

  • oh my god :O

  • This is incredible. This is truly one of the most historical footages ever.

  • no those were long before 1899

  • 1rst bmx ever

  • is this real, lol hecka kool

  • Es flext mich jedes Mal...

Der Mann war gut... Der Bike natürlich auch... ;)

  • The Greatest Inventor Of All Time - Imagine What He Could Do On A BMX - Fantastic Post Thanks.

  • not as great as Tesla

  • thank you.

  • and so the x-games were born...

  • In case anyone is wondering if this is real, it is. Here's a description of the scene from a CD that you can buy with several of Edison's clips on it. So cool...

    Bicycle trick riding, no. 2

CREATED/PUBLISHED United States : Edison Manufacturing Co., 1899.

SUMMARY Opens with a man riding a bicycle in a backwards circle, on a stage with a painted backdrop of a city street...

  • Edison is a real genius!

    Thanks for posting!

  • 1899! that's awesome

  • BMXers ain't got nothin' on this dude.

  • That's some sick flatland lol

  • haha that's so cool.

  • thats fresh

  • i never knew that edison rode the bicycle so well...

    gr8

  • hes even pretty well fitted for his bike =]

  • Excellent footage. It's so funny how some people assume the bike technology wasn't available in 1899. Why don't you guys ever do a some research before offering your little conspiracy theories?

  • That's awesome to see a motion picture from the 1800's!

  • thats like the first street session..lol

  • and its the same backdrop as edisons arabian gun twirler film so its definitely real unless that films a fake

  • the bike looks right. its no modern mountainbike look at the gears- 1 speed no ratcheting mechanism on the back, no handbrakes, super tall headtube, the bike does nothing to prove this fake... and as far as why someone would have that kind of skill in 1899 ill bet the rider was a circus freak or something. cool video

  • nice video! historical!

  • People are looking for proof of the zapping of animals?? Over a primitive freestyle video? I don't think you need proof, it was a fact and it was NO BIG DEAL. And he's faulted for wanting to get rich? Geeez. Just about everyone would like to be successful, why is that a problem?

  • back when this film was new, it was pretty interesting. I mean, like it was a new relatively new thing back then.

  • Yes, jonassaulk666, Edison was indeed a prick. Thanks chapey for the rundown on the flicks. Good to know. As for the footage, wow. Xtreme sports, 19th century style. Word.

  • viva la edison

  • These are his actual films: # The Patchwork Girl of Oz (1914) # Julius Caesar (1913) # Her Redemption (1913) # The Irish Policeman (1913) # A Minstrel Show (1913) # Nursery Favorites (1913) # Lucia di Lammermoor (1911) # Parsifal (1904) # Electrocuting an Elephant (1903) # The Passion Play of Oberammergau (1898) # Blackton Sketches, No. 2 (1896) # Blackton Sketches, No. 3 (1896) # Fatima's Coochee-Coochee Dance (1896) # The Execution of Mary Stuart (1895)
  • bike looks right for the period, no brakes, no freewheel, no worries :)

  • I don't know about Edison or not, but the bike is certainly real. I aspire to perform the same tricks on my own bike.

  • for proof search "electrocuting elephant" on u-tube

  • Thomas Edison was pure EVIL. Most of the inventions attributed to him were stolen from others, or invented by his workers and claimed by him. He electrouted 100s of animals to show how dangerous AC was, because he wanted to get rich on his DC. I wish I could have injected him with the POLIO virus, watching him slowly become weak, his limbs shrivelling from infantile paralysis, his lungs slowly getting weaker. I'd kick the dying bastard and lead animals to deficate on his defenseless body.

  • Thats good, let the anger out. Deep inhale.... ....now exhale. There, that's better.

  • and as your leaving you could have turned the lights ohhhh thats right,he invented it!!

  • yep must be fake! im thinking cg? no even better it's hand drawn with pencil! yeah thats it because the stone age of 1899 they sure could'nt build a bike with the metal they were working with at the time? geez did they even have metal in 1899? i think they were still working with wood? oh thats it, a wood bike! yeah! that must be it?

i mean up untill 1900 they were building everything with wood!

wood cars, wood shoes, wood airplanes,

    wood tools, wood weapons???

  • I hope that's sarcasm.

  • even wood cannons and tanks and steam engines and fire guards.lol

  • If you don't think this is authentic then watch where edison electrocutes the elephant. I know that one is real....

  • Thomas Edison is Filming. He was known for making short films. The man riding the bike is known as "Neidert". The bike is actually right on par for 1899. "I just don't think that kind of frame was possible given the metal work at the time." They were making cars at the time dude. I think they could manage a bicycle. So everyone kindly stfu, this video is legit.

  • Fooles!

That is not Thomas Edison IN the video, it is him taking the video. And this same exact video can be found in the Library of Congress, and I'm pretty certain they are not in the business of publishing fraudulent material.

  • Well, A) It's not Thomas Edison: he was born in 1847 and the gentleman in the video is not 52 years old! b) it's a modern mountain bike....but I couldn't explain finer details...I just don't think that kind of frame was possible given the metal work at the time.

  • You've got to be kidding me. You don't know anything about bikes, dude.

  • the bike alone proves that this is fake

  • How does the bike prove that this is fake? I'm interested.

  • Just as fake as your moon landing huh? Well Americans are number one at being fake.

  • Of course it's fake, just like Americans, fake smile, fake intelligence, fake moon landing, you guys think everything is damn fake.

  • Wow he's actually pretty decent, those tricks don't look all that crazy but they're not easy (try for yourself and see). It's the worlds first flatland video!

  • fizake

  • Copyright 1899? Surely it's run out by now--over a hundred years later.

  • the dave mirra of 1899.

  • yeah, that looks pretty fake

  • It might just be me, but it looks like the background is a tapestry of some sort.

  • You are correct. It's a stage with a city back drop.

  • get a car

  • How could anyone question if this is real? Idiots. Yeah like they had that type of a bicycle in 1899.

But, props goes to the maker of this for using some cheesy effects. Also, haha, it's amazing how the footage is so prestine, not even a missing frame wow!

  • You're the idiot.

  • ooh damn, we're gonna party like it's 18 ninety nine! OW!

  • they had bikes like that back in 1899?

  • Yes.

  • put together with parts bought off of Craigslist.

  • haha whoaaaaa. thomas edison > all other 19th century inventors. in my book.

  • he was the first to make "porn"

  • Something tells me that if Thomas Edison were alive now he'd be going nuts with a webcam and have his own myspace.

  • thomas edison was such a hipster

  • I thought you just said he was a rapist. Im tired

  • hahaha

  • They had some crazy-tall head tubes back then, didn't they?

  • that frame is ginormous!

  • this was a film by thomas edison, not of him.

  • i cant figure out if this is legit?
