-CaptinCrawky It's interesting how a very sensitive and solitude-loving person like Ian seeks for a comfort by having a little word with a total stranger. Not too many people would get approached by a great but shy genius like him.
Favorite Joy division song - really brings you inside Curtis head in some moments, DAY IN DAY DAY IN DAY OUT DAY IN OUT DAY IN OUT, DAY IN DAY OUT NOWWWW
Fantastic video, more sought after than anything else. Anything from them seems such history, History that shall never be forgotten, or fade away. RIP Ian.
you twat!!! why did you have to commit suicide..without doubt the best group from manchester..rip..ian cutis..rip tony wilson..rip rob gretton.. very important all of the to the manchester music scene..rock on joy division fans you have very good taste in music..
Growing up in the late 90's/early 2000's in the Bronx, NY, and primarily listening to Hip-Hop throughout my entire youth, I had never heard of a band called Joy Division.
It wasn't until recently, by chance, (staying up late and watching a movie entitled "Control') that I had discovered the band, and was completely blown away!
Thanks to that film my life has been changed forever ;)
@scarface82us Mate, That film was shite, I saw Joy division when I was a teenager. , new years eve 1979, i was just a kid but remember it well, I spoke to Ian Curtis at the bar after the gig, He would've hated that film. I gave him my lighter, he asked for a light and I gave him My lighter. In those days most people just had matches, but i gave him my lighter, he probably just lost it anyway but it sticks in my mind.. Happy days!
Who cares? It brings a new gen of fans to such a fantastic band.
You're ALSO probably full of shite yourself. Even so, how would you personally know if HE liked it or not? Considering his wife wrote the book the movie was based on, and Anton (their photographer and close friend) made the movie.
Though of course, you lent him your lighter. Apologies.
@RockaBanner I didnt lend him it, I gave him it ya fuckin nob head, anyway how can you possibly have an opinion on anythin to do with Joy Division? you are an Ausie. Stick to Rolf Harris mate.
Rolf Harris came to my school once, and i could tell he was thirsty - and i had a juice box, so i gave him my juice box. I don't know if he wanted my juice box, but i gave him..... my juice box.
He probably threw it away, but it sticks in my mind. Happy days.
@CaptinCrawky mate, you gave Ian Curtis your lighter after a gig that happened 32 years ago, that's it. you didn't KNOW him, whereas Anton Corbijn did and therefore actually has an idea of what Ian's opinion on Control could have been.
I know a lot of focus and attention is given to Ian Curtis when people talk about Joy Division, but damn when he sings the "Day In Day Out Day In Day Out" part it's imense, it really is electric. Thank you to Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris for their songs and performances, no-one can even compare them.
I have seen many live videos of JD, but I cant seem to find my two favorites, Disorder and Atmosphere. I dont mean the LIVE audio footage, but the live videos, like this one. Can someboy help me with this, thanks in advance
Control was great, but I thought the documentary was a better depiction of what Joy Division was about and gave more insight as to what Ian was going through. I think Control captured the essence of Joy Division's music and the scene that they came from, but I think that the documentary is less affected and more accurate.
It happened, and all that "what if" bullshit is pointless. His death should not be viewed as a loss, but rather a change in course of events. Ian's death greatly impacted the formation of the Madchester scene (New Order funded the Hacienda). I'm not saying that his death was bad or good, but it forced the Manchester music scene to change and evolve. Also, I don't think that anyone can equate the loss of one human life to another. There's no way to judge something like that.
One of my favorite Joy Division tracks. Such a great song.
The wonders of technology. I used to listen to this through a battered and overused cassette of "Substance" back in the days before the internet and the facelessness of the group further heightened the effect the songs had in me.
zielBDG are you joking??? nothing to say about Curtis, but...Cobain and Morrison did drugs too as they were writing their most brilliant songs...nothing about a lack of inspiration...in these cases ok? that's just bad examples.
The voice of Ian Curtis is unique and original, so powerful in live versions, there is no comparison, epecially in this performance. One of the best of the eighties.
the most amazing bass i have ever heard combined with the genius of ian curtis. every time i watch him just can't take my eyes of him.Definately up there with morrison and cobain.
morrison and cobain died partly because drugs and alcohole, and you know when artists stars to take drugs? when they dont have many ideas left. Curtis was a pure poet, and propably, up there, he is hanging out with Lennon or Rimbaud
