@gferrie123 I agree to a certain extent, if a sniper is targeting armed man, i have no problem with that, however that was not the case in Sarajevo. Snipers were targeting anybody, children, women, old men etc. To me theses snipers were worst then murders they are animals as that is the only word i can think of to describe them. How can you concisely pull a trigger and kill a 10 year old girl, and go home and sleep like nothing happened? sick..

Sniping has always been a sort of dehumanised form of warfare.

The scope acts as a sort of buffer between shooter and target, making it seem somehow less real.

It's not as dehumanising as things like tank or long range artillery warfare, but is also more intricate.

In many ways, Sharp shooting is an artform, while the button pushers are just that, button pushers.

Tchetniks were soldiers and non-soldiers, sometimes peasants just joining for fun during week-ends. At that time, Serbians were organizing a huge genocide in Bosnia. It has nothing to do with special troopers taught to shoot people in very critical occasions.I thought it was necessary to be precise about the historical conditions when I shot that film.

This film was shot in Sarajevo during the siege. Tchetnik snipers were shooting at people, animals, objects, just to show their power to kill who, when and how they wanted. This is terrorism. It has nothing to do with what I read on most of these childish comments.

The series was never published. It was produced by Point du Jour (F) - BBC - Saga (Bosnia). PdJ was then bought by Canal+, and now it belongs to Riff. I wish it will be publish some day, but I have doubts. Sorry !

snipers are allowed to have feelings but if they have a target they cant let the feelings get in the way otherwise they are going against orders and everything they trained for is out the window, and also, nowadays 90% of snipers dont even need to shoot ther targets, just watch them,

Problem with snipers in civil war is, that they are often paramilitary militias, not soldiers with some "code of honor"or responsibility. They shoot civilians, because they can, and because anybody, who is different, is considered enemy to their "cause" - doesn't matter, what cause it is - race, religion, etc.

There is a BIG difference between someone who has a scope on a rifle and a Sniper. At most you could call that a marksman.

Yes, you are right. There is confusion in using term sniper. I don't believe that those "snipers" in Sarajevo was really soldiers, not in active duty anyway. Imho they was thugs with scoped rifles, so when they made it to TV, they was marked as snipers ... which tells something about mindset of masmedia redactors.

DarkSide...Every sniper's first lecture is to stop looking at a target as a live human being. That is also why the US armu introduce human dize and looking targets, instead of old ones. Why? To prepare a sniper to shoot at a man, afterall, many could not do it, even though they believe that. Hell, I have met so many who can not kill a chicken or other food. YOu see what I mean. The text was written by the film director Ademir Kenovic who remained in Sarajevo during the whole siege... You may find an English translator for the text which explains the situation there at that time on my blog (March 1st 2006) and I'm happy noone in the crew has been shot during "the shooting". It was November 1993.

stupid video because the Serbs snipers were shooting everybody. this video makes the snipers look like they cared about the people, not true! they killed women and children without even thinking about it! it was written good, but the video footage is horrible and it should have been filmed as first person view where he is walking thru town and looking around trying to hide from the sniper and at the end he gets shot.

You should read the English translation if you do not understand French. The snipers expressed their power shooting everything, everyone, a dog, a bucket full of water, a child or an old person, just to prove they were gods and could choose whom they wanted to kill. It IS filmed at first person view, both sides. The image is on the sniper's side, the sound on the possible victim's side...
