awesome, gonna have to try that! would be cool to get a star shaped extruder plate. adding even more surface area to the wire and waste less sodium in practical applications
@toothpick93 Sodium will keep your compatible solvents... like ether... free of water. Also Sodium will keep ether free of peroxides. The wire stays in... but if I had to get it out I just use long tweezers.
@toothpick93 it's an alloy. :) you do need to be careful with sodium drying solvents (particularly when refluxing them with the sodium) as there can be serious fire issues with that. A lot of laboratories now use column solvent drying / deoxygenation due to the risk of fires, but they're way too expensive for home use.
Nice video myst!
I've cut fresh surfaces by just chopping through it with a knife, but these clay extruders are neat.
Clever! That is thinking outside the box! Thx for sharing.

Wouldn't using triangle shape wire give you higher surface area. Would that be useful or not?

Wonderful video. Have you tried using a stainless steel garlic press?

@bfesser hahaha no, have not tried that but I bet it would work. Good thinking!!

What is the sodium wire used for? How do you plan on getting the wire out of the amber bottle you used?

@myst32YT Ohh yeah, i get it now :) alot of solvents say Pb/Na can be used for drying... is it an alloy or just either one?
