Im am not only optimistic, but many reports are saying India will become a world power in few decades.

Culture is a big thing in life, I am not saying that India will become a perfect country in terms of the things you listed (Varsha) but in terms of infrastructure it will become very developed. How old is the American culture, couple 100 years?

The whole point here is that we should have faith in such a great country like India who has given birth to great kings, saints and freedom fighters!

Being optimistic is not bad...being realistic is better but being pessimistic is no solution. what i see is that some people are just listing -ve about India. And also I don't agree to all -ve they have written. Esp about Indian culture being backward. I agree culture is about art, music, philosophy and scientific discovery and public manners etc, but I see India rich in it. South Asian culture is and its art music is different the europen or american, and is not comparable.

It is very optimistic of you to think that we will be a huge power in the next 20 years. Even if we are..will that make us a great culture??..culture isnt about having a high GDP. Culture is the environment that surrounds you..it includes original art, music, philosophy, scientific discovery plus respect for others, respect for women, intelligent public discourse and OBEDIENCE OF LAW. Will we have all that in the next 100 years? Let alone 20.

A lot of scientific discoveries, astronomy, architectural expertise come from south America . again, A lot of beautiful art ,music and philosophy has come out of Europe .Please do not confuse the west with the US of A. We had some of these things too but lost them a long long time back

Well, yes you have some correct points. But there are many different perspectives from different groups. Some say that the Indians have the oldest civilization and history in the world and some dont. Lot of the world's most beautiful art and music has roots in India. And about "basic problems"...

Every country has its basic and big problems, for ex. India-> you could say corruption and pollution. USA-> you could say crime or racism

VARSHA, Have you heard of something called "badtimes"? Every country and civilization goes through ups and downs, Yes India is very dirty and has corruption but that is changing if you dont know. You will be left behind when India/China become world powers within 20-30 years.

Im not saying Westerners are bad people, but they do not have a very old civilization. Many things like the worlds first surgeries, universities and mathematical/scientific theories happened in India.

well, maybe your head is punier than mine. when did I correlate poverty with low morals?I have been to "holy places" in India which are extremely dirty. Is it all due to poverty? or just plain neglect. one cant blame poverty and politicians for everything.

everything that rich india survives on is imported from the west. technology to build housing, trains, aircrafts; medicine, modern laws..so How am I wrong if I say that they are superior? I didnt say that they were perfect..just better

Yes, you are right that the technoogy from the west is used in India, but thats the fact everywhere in world. Without sharing, the Americans or Chinese would not gain profit and other countries would not develop.

And maybe you should research the history of India. India has the oldest history having such an Intelligent and great civilization. It has the most jewels, grain and gold in the world. Sanskrit is the oldest language from which many English words has come from.

forget filth in normal places. I went to Haridwar ( a very holy city) for someones last rites. It was sooooo dirty, and stinking of animal urine and human waste. even the place where the ceremony was performed was so awful and stinky, we had to cover our noses.

Anyway, as far as intelligence is concerned, i am a teacher and I have found no difference in the intelligence levels of indians and westerners. Its just that Indians are good at mugging/scoring in exams. one should not bask in fake glory.

Perhaps a better question would be, if India has been in such high demand for so long, if it is truly looked to for spiritual enlightenment,, then why does it face the same social and religious problems the rest of the world does? Devangna, Get your facts right buddy, India has 2nd largest Army, 4th largest Air force, 6th largest Navy(Strongest Navy in Asia). All together India has 4th strongest military in the world. It was all strengthened after Chinese Attacked and defeated back in 1962.
