Regarding the meats - you can wash them and pat dry the the steaks if you are unsure. We get our meats from a very reliable store and made sure we kept it in the fridge right upto the point of using it.

It is not necessary to wash raw meat. By washing it, you actually spray raw juices all over your sink and counter, causing a health hazard.

It REALLY all depends on the person. Cows are sacred in India for moral rights. The animal works for you and gives you all the dairy products you need. Many people in India wouldn't want to kill something in the beginning but with the cow you are basically killing an absolutely innocent animal. Anyways on this side of the planet we eat everything, so many Indians put their pride away to fit in with the society.
