@elviscash56 I CAN CONFIRM THAT WHAT NUNCLEFRITZ SAID IS TRUE. HE HAS NEVER TOLD A LIE IN HIS LIFE AND HE WAS GLADYS PRESLEYS YOUNG STUD FOR 3 YEARS BEFORE HER DEATH
I've only heard the Ray Charles version of this, but yesterday I was singing it with an Elvis voice, and I knew. I knew Elvis must've covered this song, it just fits.
@tennisdude2000 this is classic, its before auto tune or any "fake instruments" that all musicians use now. with out influence from these people you wouldnt have what you have today, honestly musics just changed a samp hole of sex and wanting money but this is how it got started. these are the legends that bring you what they have.
@tennisdude2000 That's because you're used to hearing music that came AFTER Elvis Presley. The reason Elvis is so important and significant is because he brought this type of music to the masses. Before him Rock 'N' Roll barely existed. That's why Elvis is so important.
@PolyphonicPress WHAT! Rock and roll barely existed! Open up Google and do a search on History of Rock and Roll....what you are saying is akin to saying rap barely existing before Eminem...Elvis was ONLY a hipper Pat Boone...he barely wrote any of his own music. Elvis is the king of being manipulated and mass marketing but not of Rock and Roll.
elvis was as poor as any kid in America at 12.He live in an area in Memphis in a housing project that had black and white kids living there. His local church was mostly black .he had black friends in a time when you could have been beaten to pulp for that.He was banned from live shows in six states in America. His early sun records were blues and country sang in a style not heard before. At that time he was hated by the Nasville set up.he was just a singer that opened the door for everyone
elvis never had a no 1 record written by a black man.most records recorded by black artists that elvis sung was because he loved that music. He was called a white nigger by the old white south. He sung blues gospel country and rock.He bought country and r+b to the kids of the world in his style.elvis opened the door for any singer black or white to sing any style of music.get your facts right.are you saying its wrong for ray charles to sing a clasic country song or eric clapton to sing the blues.
I find it disgusting that race has to enter the discussion when talking about Elvis. It goes to show the thought processes of some people today. The year is 2011 not 1864 or 1964.
@hotathlete2 Do you know the history of early rock at all? Race has everything to do with why Elvis performed this song. He performed this song because most white people wouldn't listen to a black singer, and because it made him money.
@PatrioticAmerican15 Ok, well that's a good thing then. It took a white singer like Elvis to tell America: this is some cool music regardless of who sings it. He gets a lot of hate from the black community for reasons I'll never understand. Like little richard once said: Elvis was the integrator, he was a blessing. He kicked the door down for black musicians.
@hotathlete2 Because he made White people hip to Black music doesn't make him the "King" of what was known as Race/Music. It's the same pathology with Columbus 'discovering' where people already lived. That's why Elvis is seen as a thief. You can't pillage and plunder a culture, get rich off of it and expect to be seen as honest. White mythology sickens most of the world and now we're reaping what we sow.
@ahmidis74 Sorry dude but that still makes no sense at all. He saved RR from dying in the black bars. Your comparison with Columbus doesn't match up either. The whiteman stole all this land from the American Indians giving nothing back to the indians nor recognition. Elvis always gave credit to Rufus Thomas, Muddy Waters etc as his influences. He was just a young white kid that loved RnR, wanted to please himself and his mama. He's the King cuz he created RnR as it is today.
@hotathlete2 Calling someone the King of a genre that's from another culture is the ultimate disrepect and insult to that people. So, had gone to Jamaica and bring Reggae to White people he'd be the King of that too? C'mon man, THINK, will ya? So, is Eminem the King of Rap? They tried that same crap with Benny Goodman calling him the King of Jazz while ignoring greats like Louis Armstrong. That's just the way America operates and we're slowly paying for it. Supidity is costly.
@hotathlete2 he didnt make rock and roll it was a product of the blues... black made as well not inspired MADE as well...im not hating on him or whites but all i see is a white man taking something that he didnt make and calling it his own...inspiration...he didnt change a word he just sang it a lil differently..credit.. hell it was their song...i dont mind it if u call it a tribute to them just dont call it ur own RnR would be fine without him actually it might be better off
@volmanix I stand by my statement that he created RnR as we know it today. That's not to say he invented it or fathered it, but he introduced it a wider white audience, added his own flavor of rockabilly. If not for Elvis, RnR wouldn't sound like the kinda music that inspired the Beatles etc. Elvis never stole and called RnR his own, he always gave credit to Rufus Thomas, muddy waters, Fats Domino and others who influenced him. Again, he was never known to say he invented RnR.
@ahmidis74 -As a white musician that plays soul and jazz music, all I can say is... "daaaaay-uuuuuum!!!" LOL- can't argue one word you said. If black people start writing as many books as white people, maybe history will begin to be written based off of what happened, and not what we (whites) would like to have happened!
@natetime My brother, my main man!!! I love music, be it country/western, blues, reggae, classical, jazz, etc. Glad you understand my point. Nothing against a great musician if he's white. Ain't nobody can touch a James Taylor, Beatles, Bob Seager, etc. Elvis on the other hand represents pain and injustice (whether it's his fault or not). Very good singer/performer but he can't be king of what he didn't create.
“I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him. Last time I saw him was at Graceland. We sang Old Blind Barnabus together, a gospel song. I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There’ll never be another like that soul brother."
“A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man’s music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis.”
@xbanginbeautyx I agree! there are people in our society that can't seem to get it together so they blame Elvis for their failures! Ah, try to figure that out. If anything, Elvis integrated America!
@ASUHornetsFootball what did Elvis steal and from whom? On everyone of his albums, credit is giving to all those whose songs he sang whether it be: Neil Diamond, lieber and stoller, Mac Davis etc. and what has race have to do with this? I'm hispanic and these are hard times for us with the topic of immigration. Don't you think I may be angry too? But I'm not going to blame a great entertainer like Elvis, I blame a racist system. Elvis es numero UNO! Elvis is the greatest of all time!
@RJSingz820 Why don't you go to Michael "the pedos" Jackson's grave and jack off to it. This video is about a real man named Elvis not some little effeminate homo from gary indiana.
@hotathlete2 If you get your facts str8 dumb ass a artist named "Little Walter" wote that song! Once again a no bit talent like Elvis stole it! Oh, and Michael Jackson was way bigger, better, than Elvis. I mean come on, Elvis couldnt even sing. Idk if he was a homo I would not care but we all know who was better!! Learn Music Kid.....
@RJSingz820 I didn't say Little Walter didn't write the song, every song Elvis recorded, credit was given to the writer. Elvis can't sing? Man you must be deaf or just plain stupid. And saying that jackson is better is a matter of taste or opinion. Elvis was the first artist to break a billion in sales. And lastly, if jackson was so great, why did he die of aids? Too much action in the rear end? or one of them little boys must've infected him.
I like Elvis's version better, that's just me. I also like Buddy Holly's "Ready Teddy" better than Chuck Berry's. To me, there are just songs that a certain person sings better.
@bassclarinet10 you sound dumb as fuck. "screw you elvis" honey, elvis probably wouldnt even LOOK at you to start. your comments wouldnt bother him the least. but that doesnt mean they dont bother me and all the fans. get the fuck off before your idiotic comments make ME lose brain cells.
@kelsonjamie If chuck berry is greater than Elvis, why then did Chuck say this in 1977: "Elvis Presley is the greatest that there was, that there is and that will ever be."
Elvis was over rated, yet another white guy that ripped off on music and yet he is called King.People got it all wrong,Muddy Waters invented electricity.
I guess it makes some people crazy that a white guy sings so good...
Sorry.
if it makes you feel any better, when somebody records a Ray Charles song, they put his name on the record and pay him royalties. Ray is making money on his own song.
Elvis didn't steal black music. Listen to Pat Boone - THAT'S the respectable white boy sanitizing black music. Elvis didn't sanitize nothin'. In fact that's why he caused such uproar, because here was a white boy in the segregated 'States singing it just as wild as any black man. And those moves, man you don't see Pat Boone doing THAT.
ya know, I hear that elvis stole a bunch of black music, whatever, maybe he did... all I know is I didn't even know Ray did this song, the first time I ever heard it was by elvis, and then I knew it was by ray... so thank you to Elvis for introducing black music to us white folks, especially back then... when it wasn't cool for white people to listen to black music. a lot of white parents were against shit like that back in the day.
@melende1970 even though you grow up with a certain race doesnt mean that you have to get along with them. just like some skinheads they grew up around blacks and they began to hate them
people say elvis copied ray charles, well in case some folks dont know it, when ray started out he was emulating his idol nat king cole, and his vocal was very like nat, so much he was told to stop by the record company and to find his own sound. and i have an early album of his that does sound like nat king cole only not quite as good. all singers take something from there personal idols.
