@insidethefall78 Yea, Alex did a choice solo on Porcupines Fear of a Blank Planet release, It seems that PT influenced Rush's tonal nuances because they have evolved into a more complex style. When I heard Snakes and Arrows i started hearing PT's tonalities throughout that album, and it is now my favourite Rush album. I seem to remember either Alex or Geddy say years back that they were listening to PT when asked what they listen to.
I just want this Album to be out. The unison fills between the three of them at 3:55 is just soooooo good. I know I can never find a band I love as much as Rush.
I'm 18 years old and converting all my friends. RUSH needs to reach my generation. By the way... I'm a girl.... Went to a concert. I was in the minority on both counts. haha! My heroes <3
Alot of sustained noise, clang, kind of like Rage Against the Machine, but with no release of tension or ups and downs just alot of heavy guitar. Not good, they havent released anything good since Counterparts and havent changed their soud since. To Bad, Everything up to and including Power Windows is great. After that..meh...disappointment.
@uncjjb24 I think the newer Rush material needs to be listened to more often to be appreciated. Lots of layers, I previously sold off my Rush collection 8 years ago, now I'm rebuilding. I have 7 albums(cds), I actually want to get Test For Echo, its the beginning of their newish sound and has a number of great tracks. I hope they remaster Vapor Trails, whats you opinion on their last 4 abums?
@jj75ism Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ahhhhhhhhhhh..........nice one! You must not have listened to that section from about 3:30 mark, no ups or downs.....geez.
Counterparts was the last good Rush album .. sad to say because I am a Rush fan from their beginnings in the 70s ... timing in the song seems off ... blurred notes .. kinda painful I am sorry to say to listen to ..
Ace Frehley influenced so many guitar players it's ridiculous. Gene is a good bass player with a great, groove-based ability, whom also writes great songs. Paul Stanley has one of the greatest voices in rock and roll, and Peter Criss was an influential drummer. Bruce Kulick, Eric Carr, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer are all great players as well. Rush is on a different level compared to ANY of their peers so stop comparing the two bands. RUSH/KISS - 2012!
With AC/DC, Beatles and Metallica smearing their logo on everything nowadays, KISS isn't the only band you should give crap for marketing. KISS' music is most important as are the shows. Bands don't survive without good music and KISS is no exception. They've written some great songs/albums. KISS, Hotter Than Hell, Dressed to Kill, Destroyer, Rock and Roll Over, Love Gun, Creatures, Sonic Boom ect...all amazing rock albums. Dislike them but don't minimize their contributions to music.
Kiss has its merits, but when it comes to technical aspects, lyrics, chord progressions, drumming, etc,. Rush is in a different league. I have played Kiss songs in a coverband...EZ. Kiss songs are about as hard to play as and sing and CCR.
There are hardly any easy Rush songs...maybe "Working Man." We tried "YYZ" and we sucked it up.
i have to say im extremely looking forward to clockwork angels as this and bu2b were the groundbreaking part of one of the best shows ive ever attended in my life and ive been a fan since four dates on signals tour i had to give kudos to the lad at newcastle metro radio arena who was proudly wearing his original MP t-shirt ;D
someone said there new album is death metal i laughed my ass off its just hard rock/progressive rock, u cant categorize rush as death metal they define their genre of music
In a young man's quest to follow his dreams, he is caught between the grandiose forces of order and chaos. He travels across a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy, with lost cities, pirates, anarchists, exotic carnivals, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life.
this is the description given of the albums concept by Kevin J. Anderson, the author who will be writing a book based on the album.
@SciMasterGeneral And as far as drummers go, AC/DC has had a couple, all of whom sound exactly the same, playing in a very basic 4/4 groove. Neil Peart is irreplaceable.
@SciMasterGeneral rock is not supposed to be 'simplistic' as you were putting it. IT is derived from blues, which the simplest, but not necessarily the only form is of a 1-4-5 progression. Rock took this as a basis and evolved from there. AC/DC follows this to the letter. Rush doesn't. AC/DC has some great songs, but their adherence to this formula can come across as monotonous after a while. Rush constantly tries to expand and evolve.
I can't understand why people try to compare everything Dream Theater do to Rush.. I mean, it's like comparing potatoes with, you know, gravy :) Rush is the real sauce!!
@paximus59 Yes man , i have tried to tell her , they are not preaching anything evil . she wont listen to the words , so has no idea what they are singing about . they just hear the word satan and think they are worshiping the devil . my kids love Sabbath , so she didnt win on this one . it still gets blasted at my place .
Honestly, if you're going to hate me for bashing a pathetic group of talentless sellouts, atleast try to think of an argument! Lady Gaga fans are more intelligent than you!
I was 17 when i saw RUSH's Time Machine Tour in Greensboro, NC! I want to say that Test For Echo was my Birth Album as in i was born in 1994 and the album released in 1996. The first song i liked from RUSH was Virtuality (Test For Echo Song)! And then i started hearing their older songs and then they became my favorite band ever! Thank GOD my Dad influenced my taste in music!!!
I honestly don't care. You can NOT convince me that KISS has ever done anything worth a shit with their entire career. You call me an idiot, yet you have no argument. All you do is attempt to insult me.
They write the most simplistic rock songs I've ever heard in my entire life, and the only reason they achieved "legend status" is because of their image. As far as musicianship goes, they are fucking laughable and comparable to a shitty rock band like Nickleback.
@justforthelulzzz Excuse me, but Rock is supposed to be simplistic. Rush is my favorite band of all time, but let's be objective. AC/DC writes simplistic music, but have made two albums "Highway To Hell" and "Back In Black" that eclipses anything RUSH has done. As great as Neil Peart is , he couldn't lay down a pocket groove like Phil Rudd can to save his life. Plus, has RUSh ever had lyrics as cool as "Baby's on her knees...baby want's to please...She wants a Rocket Ride?" No.
@SciMasterGeneral I second this! This guy is insane! I had a top rated comment that mentioned KISS having a new album out and 23 people rated it a thumbs up so evidently people want more from KISS as well as Rush and Van Halen! 40 years later that says something. RUSH/KISS/VH 2012!!
Implying that the amount of thumbs up you have on a Youtube video means a goddamn thing? Once again, moronic KISS fangirls can't think of any kind of argument, they just try to insult me. I have no idea what I'm talking about? Ok, prove it. And don't bring in popularity or sales, because as people such as Drake and Lil Wayne have proved, that doesn't mean shit.
@justforthelulzzz are you fucking kidding me?? Black Diamond, Deuce, Parasite, Strutter, Love Gun, I love it Loud, War Machine, Shout it out loud, Calling Dr.Love, God of Thunder, Shock Me, Detroit Rock city....they're all great songs!
@gronetlv7 not as great as working man, the trees, xanadu, entre nous, force ten, natural science, yyz, limelight, la villa strangiato, time stand still, subdivisions, fly by night, passage to bangkok, red barchetta... they're all better songs!
@gronetlv7....No a few of the songs you list are maybe...OK. But please...KISS is about first and foremost about marketing anything and everything the can attach their name to. Whether it is a coffee mug, t-shirt, lighter, snowboard (ha..love that one),.Their "songs" aren't that important..it's the theatrics, make-up during their live show. Musically Paul and Ace guitar wise or very average, shitty tone. Gene flat out is at best nominal.
@fendergibs The amazing ability Kiss had, was not the individual virtuoso levels - it's their ability to take four less than average musicians and still make CLASSIC songs like Detroit Rock City. They did it again and again.
@impalaSS65 that was their only musically talented record, destroyer, and the top song beth was kinda by accident. they had some ok songs here and there but kiss was more of a business than a musical group, they were focused more on marketing and sales than making music. besides Eric Carr and to less extent Ace,there really was any musican standout that u coudnt find in any dime a dozen garage band.
@southrules Hm, I read enough music magazines in the 70s to understand he was allways an asshole. Still made great music - dom't see how the person has to do anything with the music.
@Ariel62073 Sad to hear your outlook on life. There is nothing phony about Rush (Rash) what so ever. If you say love rock and roll, but you don't enjoy Kiss - then you are out of reach for rock n roll. Rush isn't for everyone, but thery're not THAT hard to ingest. I listened to Tom Sawyer from the new album "moving pictures" when I was at my best friends house. His older brother had the album and a Strat and a Les Paul in the basement,.. We played it over and over before his brother came home =)
Fuck Yea !!!!!!! iI have to start thinking big . no more thoughs of failure . many people with less talent have made it . i know i will never come up with music as great as Rush , but i also know the music i am doing is good . it will reach some people . the same way Rush has saved my life in many ways . when i really need a fix of great music , there is only on band that can fix my brain . i also hate Rush for the same reason . i always think i will never be as good .but if i get halfway?
@FrogWithACookie I would agree with you that this is heavy, but it's not too heavy for Rush. They're progressing into the sort of phase, the metalish-hard-rock-complex phase. That's what this album is all about. But you can just tell, there's just that distinct Rush feel to it...
@FrogWithACookie It sounds right to me, it feels like a Rush song, it has that style that they only have. Like others have said, it is heavy, but they do have songs like Working Man which are moderately heavy too. It may also sound heavier than it really is because of the way it sounds today compared to how it *would* sound if it were recorded in the mid 70s - the early mid 80s in terms of recording and mixing technology.
Man , i get real happy when i see the young guys getting into Rush , and some of you young girls . but as you know there are not to many smart ones . most of them only listen to crap and will never know this great band . i have been trying to turn people onto rush since i was 13 . i am 46 now . and still love it . when most of our great bands no longer put out good shit . rush continues to push the boundry. Peace
Exellent , i have introduced Rush to my kids . they do like Rush , but like most modern kids they are also influenced by pop music and hip hop . my first mission when they where kids was to play as much of the great bands as possible so great music is in there heads . unfortunatly my ex wife never liked Rush or alot of the music i listened to . Black Sabbath was devil music in her eyes . she didnt like it being played around them . what an idiot .
@virdy65 i also started to listen Rush when I was 13 ; ) but well I'm 27 now and i had about 10 years long break with their music. Today their name just pop in my mind and well now Im on the loong night trip with their music. This is incredible. Life is.
@afusake I guess after such a long break ,it would be alot to rediscover . there are so many great songs . not to long ago i listened to Before and After . i forgot how great that intro was . i was like holy shit . i got to learn how to play this . i got most of it down on guitar .
@bobsterfish So are you just getting into Rush, or the whole progressive rock/experimental music scene. If it's the latter, you're in for some great years of discovery dude. Enjoy.
@LipanConjuring8519 Absolutely. Rush turned me on to King Crimson and all sorts of other prog bands. I love prog cause it has little to no boundaries in a rock context.
gotten into Rush again since the sector sets came out.. This is the first time hearing this Caravan single... This song jams!! I was gonna buy the single from the Rush site but, if these songs are gonna be on the new album I will just wait till it comes out!!
i like how rush has the balls to make good music when a lot of the other bands of their time died out. rush is the most important band in history alongside sabbath.
pretty sick tune

@southrules .... how can kiss even be in the same convo as RUSH kiss is the next generation monkeys
Kielscott77 3 weeks ago
@southrules Hm, I read enough music magazines in the 70s to understand he was allways an asshole. Still made great music - dom't see how the person has to do anything with the music.

@impalaSS65
I was a kid, I didn't realize he was an asshole at the time. The fact that I found out just took the magic away.

@justforthelulzzz Kiss sucks and I regret the pseudo-intellectuality of Rush.
Bands: just play rock music well, don't dress up like space hookers, and try not to establish an anti-religion to sell to me.
The world sucks. I want some uptempo sounds with singing to rock out to.
Ariel62073 2 weeks ago

Is it just me or is this really heavy for Rush?
FrogWithACookie 1 month ago
@FrogWithACookie I would agree with you that this is heavy, but it's not too heavy for Rush. They're progressing into the sort of phase, the metalish-hard-rock-complex phase. That's what this album is all about. But you can just tell, there's just that distinct Rush feel to it...
jerrythepotato1919 1 month ago
@FrogWithACookie Yeah, its a bit heavy, but remember songs like working man
stykzninja1 1 month ago
