Are you really defending the definition of family? Really? Considering how high the divorce rate is, how many single-parent homes there are, and how many broken families there are, how can you even begin to pat yourself on the back for doing this? I don't see how prop 8 "Strengthens" the family. Couples are still getting divorced, men are still beating there wives & children are being abused by their parents at the same rate as before. Schwarzenegger wants the courts to overturn prop 8, and given the fact that they already ruled in favor of gay marriage, it is likely that prop. 8 will not only be overturned, but with a little luck, the churches who told members to vote will also lose their tax-exempt status in the process. Churches started the stupid prop 8 and this is the price they need to pay for being the bigoted a-holes that they are.

If marriage is defined in religious terms, then it CANNOT receive special recognition under the law. Under the First Amendment, the law is not permitted to interfere with or abet religious functions. Prop 8 appears to have passed. Now tolerance goes both ways in California. I appreciate all of you who voted and participated in democracy on this most important issue. The concept of "marriage" gives a couple legal protections--as an unmarried partner, one is not entitled to visit one's partner if he or she is in critical condition in hospital. Homosexual partners are also not entitled to the same tax breaks as married couples. It is also quite likely that not being married will be used as grounds for not allowing homosexual couples to adopt children.

Marriage has always been about families. No government ever made special laws or dispensations just to protect two people who love each other. Family law, and be extension marriage, has always been about protecting children, not adults.
So the real vote on proposition 8 isn't about whether or not same genders can be married or not, or their rights. It's about what is best for children. If the best thing for children is same gender parents then vote no. If the best thing for children is a male father and a female mother then vote yes.

Considering how high the divorce rate is, how many single-parent homes there are, and how many broken families there are, how can you even begin to pat yourself on the back for doing this? Marriage was once not allowed between people of different races. Divorce was one illegal. The definition of marriage has been changed many times, and we will change it again.
P.S. The divorce rate went DOWN in states that allowed gay marriage.

I don't see how prop 8 "Strengthens" the family. Couples are still getting divorced, men are still beating there wives & children are being abused by their parents at the same rate as before. I don't see how banning same sex marriage would prevent or stop any of these things from happening. This is just pure ignorance, this guy didn't prove anything, & this commercial is pointless. Prop 8 is stupid..and likely a waste of time and money on BOTH sides. Even Gov. Schwarzenegger wants the courts to overturn prop 8, and given the fact that they already ruled in favor of gay marriage, it is likely that prop. 8 will not only be overturned, but with a little luck, the churches who told members to vote will also lose their tax-exempt status in the process. Churches started the stupid prop 8 and this is the price they need to pay for being the bigoted a-holes that they are.

Actually, Jews have to follow the book (the laws in the Old Testament). Christians follow the philosophy of Jesus' golden rule of loving your neighbor. Naturally, many "Christians" do not follow this rule, but since it's technically one of the only rules they're bound by under the New Covenant, I really can't consider them Christian anymore than I could consider someone Muslim if they thought they were bound by only half the Koran.

If marriage is defined in religious terms, then it CANNOT receive special recognition under the law. Under the First Amendment, the law is not permitted to interfere with or abet religious functions. But it *is* taking away their rights. The concept of "marriage" gives a couple legal protections--as an unmarried partner, one is not entitled to visit one's partner if he or she is in critical condition in hospital. Homosexual partners are also not entitled to the same tax breaks as married couples. It is also quite likely that not being married will be used as grounds for not allowing homosexual couples to adopt children.

You do realize of course that if Prop 8 failed, those rights you say are lacking wouldn't have changed? Prop 8 had to do with state rights only, and those were already awarded to civil rights. It has nothing to do with federal rights.

Prop 8 is just a well funded hate speech. I'm so tired of seeing all the Yes on Prop 8 signs on my neighbors lawns. It just advertises your hate for other people. I don't understand what message you are sending your children when you don't want two people to love each other? and to use the bible as a reference? Marriage has always been about families. No government ever made special laws or dispensations just to protect two people who love each other. Family law, and be extension marriage, has always been about protecting children, not adults.

So the real vote on proposition 8 isn't about whether or not same genders can be married or not, or their rights. It's about what is best for children. If the best thing for children is same gender parents then vote no. If the best thing for children is a male father and a female mother then vote yes.

We live in a democracy, and our founders took great pains to keep church and state separate. The constitution's purpose is to protect all of the American people. Let's keep this in mind when we vote. If there was ever a time when we could use a lot of Christ Love, that time is clearly now.

Is a sailboat an ocean liner? Let's stick with the language we've all agreed to use. Words mean things. If you can change a word to make it mean whatever you want, then so can I. For that matter, so can anyone. So someone might decide to change it to mean it's ok to marry their mom. and if "love is love", maybe someone really loves their dog,or sheep. When you leave a door open, there's just no telling who might walk through. Leave words alone. They mean things. Civil unions are cool.

Ok, after beating around the bushes, this guy says he's voting for Prop 8 because it means strengthening the family. Do you care to elaborate? Because gay families will be strengthened when Prop 8 is defeated. Gay couples adopt children who would otherwise not have a family. There is already a surplus of unadopted children. Isn't it better to have two gay parents than no parents at all?

I agree that not all people voting yes on 8 hate everyone that is different. Those comments are untrue and uncalled for, however voting yes on prop 8 is discrimination. Just because 'our economy seems fine' with something doesn't make it right. 'Our economy was fine' with slavery, racism, and segregation, but does that make that right? Vote no on 8, not because voting yes means you hate people (cuz that's not true) but because prop 8 is wrong, becasue it's discrimination and that's not 'fine'.
