Nothing wrong with learning. Great job in doing a good shearing and taking care of the ewe as well. Brave of you to learn to do it. Wow so much hard work!
try moving the sheeps head between your legs and gripping it up like that, ive only just finished shearing my blackies off the hill and wat i do with them is latch a horn behind of my legs in a way that it somehow doesnt hurt if the pull, it keeps them upright and still most of the time
And if it wasn't for you guys knocking off early for the pub, then you would have been even worse for ware. did you get the girlfriend's sheep shorn then?
I need to shear some of my in-laws goats (mohair), I never done this, but have seen it done w/ hand shears not electric like the ones shown, where can I get electric shears and for how much?
I can't get from the first shoulder (left) to the flank and long-blow without dropping the sheep! Anyone give me some advice on this and other things I'm doing wrong??
hey man, try turning the sheep more towards the porthole as you finish the crutch, this will make the undermine easyer for you, which in turn makes the sheep sit better up the neck, also need to change your blows on that first shoulder.
once that is right if they are still dropping it will be your foot work, but that s to hard to explain in writing.
if you trully want to learnt to shear properly you'd have to do several seansons in nz. how many are you currently doing in two hours?
Thanks davygar, I've tweaked the neck to 1st shoulder blows and I'm keeping my knees closer together, which has all helped this season. 58 in 2 hour run on ewes with good rise.
See a video I posted recently which shows how I've taken your advice this summer called "shearing a ewe"
I'm always learning and want more advice. Any advice on handpieces & combs?
good idea making this instruction video, even if you're "just a learner". looked like you didnt expect the second track to be the famous "jack rabbit slim twist contest" Pulp Fiction scene!!

is it possible to accidenly cut o0ff their balls?
lhtbuilder 2 years ago
this one's female so yes it would be hard to cut her balls off! Shearers generally know which bits of the sheep to leave on.
