first heard discovered Albert Lee when I heard a kick-ass solo on Dave Edmund's "sweet little Lisa" in 1979 album "Repeat when necessary".
From that point on I put him as my favourite Brit guitarist. Various U.S. female country singers latched on to him as their guitarist of choice from that point. Emmylou called him "her little caveman"
The pianist is ROCKIN'!!! Fiddle player is amazing. Guitar solos are just making me smile and shake my head! Damn, thats a bunch o' talent, aye? Beanicus
I am amazed every time people "discover" just how incredible Vince is. Just like I shake my head when people dis Clapton. Differences, not ranking who is better. Chosing to be who they want to be. Playing what they want to play.
@charles43110 Well Vince is soooooo well known for his great singing alot of people overlook his guitar playing. I had that ah-ha moment myself. but once I did, I realized what a great OVERALL talent he was....
why does/did ass clown mark oconnor think everyone wanted to hear him play that damn fiddle. Just my opinion, but he ruined everything he ever played on.
Absolutely superb - but this arrangement is based on the recording in Paris by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grapelli with the Quintet of the Hot Club of France from around 1934. Wonderful stuff - I actually applauded in front of my computer when it finished! Gotta go and practise...
I'll tell you what is amazing about AL. He tours uk and Europe playing the high st pubs and clubs that Clapton, Beck and Page quit doing in 1965. A true working musician who turned his back on fame to stick with playing what he wants. A real guitar hero.
I just love how so many great country singers of the last several decades have also been totally rippin' pickers. Ricky, Vince, Brad Paisley etc etc etc.
is incredible as gill is, to me, lee is the star of this stage. not to take anything from oconnor. and damn, no more cowbell. cowbell is so over done and commercial these days. with brittany spears and everybody else using it... no more cowbell.
toddgakk..Albert's hair isn't white in this Video..maybe he did pick up the 52 Tele and watched himself play it in the mirror - and scared himself to death - that's why his hair is white !!!!!!!
Couldn't agree more. Lee is such a fantastic player, but his taste in tone doesn't match his playing. And what's up with the chorus?? Lee's playing with Gill's sound, please.
Wow! This is the very best out of the very best playing together. One of the toughest pieces of music played with ease and aplomp. Every single one of them is a world's top level musician. No compromise, no "pretty good", no middle class. On of these rare lucky moments in music history caught on tape.
Does anyone know if this performance was ever put on a cd (on a Albert Lee-album or maybe a compilation-cd)? I know another version can be found on one of Lee's albums but it's not this version with Vince and Mark :(
This show was great. Given its popularity on Youtube, you would think that some TV exec somewhere would realize that there is a market for real music on TV>
To: seattwa. this clip was from twenty years ago, BEFORE Albert went gray (now white)

What a great performance! They're all smokin players. With Mark wearing that hat, he reminds me of Basil Fawlty from the 'Waldorf Salad' episode xD
