@hackamore but it´s very sad. For example: Today as a European you have no chance against a Japanese ballet dancer. It´s so sad I can´t describe it. Our culture is about being destroyed. Maybe the Japanese/Asians have just more discipline. (and the Japanese dancers have very beautiful bodys for classical ballet)

It doesnt help that the government have made damaging cuts to the funding and subsidising of the tuition, institutes, and education of the arts. it's destroying what we have achieved ever since the growth and rise of ballet (among the other arts) in western culture. But our culture, our greed, and our ignorance has led to something inevitable. That's why we have the problems we have today, such as education.

For some reason, it was the unicycle-holding-hands--while-­she-does-one-handed-cartwheels­-and-keeps-up-with-him thing that made me misty-eyed. Maybe because I hadn't seen it before.

Odette on Sigfried's head wows me every time I see it, of course. Talk about "You Were Always On My Mind!" But I'd seen clips of that already. The unicycle thing was new to me.

@lemurs366 the lack of resources in poorer countries forces artists to master one area of creativity, as supposed to trying many and never reaching full capacity with them all. That's why triple talents come a dime a dozen nowadays but we still can't produce a Baryshnikov

its running at Nottingham Royal theatre from wed 13th to saturday 16th of August, i saw it on the wednesday and it was so amazing it was just jaw dropping. This vid isn't entirely true to the performance i saw coz they added some stuff and didnt do others, and the music thats played to certain "dances" here are played to other "dances" in the actual thing, but it was FANTASTIC.

I think you'll find that it did contain dance. It isn't all just gymnastics - it had acrobatics/dance/magic and circus acts too

oh come out of the dark ages will you - new things need to be done to attract younger audiences what 14 year old do you know that loves ballet? and how dare you say it isnt worthy of the opera house's stage. If the opera house was to only show ballet and opera and classical genre shows it'll only attract the older generation. Before you critisice something like this why don't you go see it for yourself

Swan Lake is like Shakespeare - it can be performed in many different ways without detracting from any other version. I love pure ballet but this looks amazing.

I think narrow minded opera buffs should pay the true cost of the running the operas (i.e. don't subsidise with other tax payers' money), and then they could control who gets to perform or not.
