I think you might be right about the warm waters in the everglades(and lake okeechobee). Wilma didn't lose much if any intensity passing over Fla. Katrina actually strengthened after landfall for a while.
I went through this hurricane. Pretty bad. It wasn't the severity of the winds as much as it was the duration. The first half of the hurricane was not damaging much, but the second hit of the eye ripped my fence apart, blew out most screens, and broke my favorite pine tree that I thought was indestructable. I watched it go through storms for 25 years, and it always flexed right back to normal.
i live in royal palm and this storm was very bad the worst hurricane ive been through yet. im only 12 i wasnt alive when andrew went through so i didnt know what it was like. during hurricane wilma i had to stay at my aunt and uncles because we figured that it was going to hit so hard we had to get all of our family together over at my aunt and uncles house.
It was a pleasure to find you that unique whistleblower that had info regarding 1999. I humbly apologize for waking you up but God directs me&I follow his orders, not your sleep schedule.
I again humbly apologize but this person is really important for Albert & World Peace.
Update on the jokes in the city about Bernie Madoff now is that Bernie is now on his hands & knees & asking for Mark Foley&Larry Craig.
I'm very serious about this.

I've been in thunderstorms this strong, which last at most 10 minutes. This went on for many hours. I couldn't imagine it, the people who inhabit Florida are some very brave people.
i was in the acreage when this hit. big tree branches were snapped off, my patio screens were completely ripped apart, that had to be at least a category 3 with 115 mph winds when it came through. to fllover, yes that was a fun hurricane. to craig, a fenceboard blew off in the first part of the eyewall, put it back up during the eye, second part, blew it back off, this time farther. that had to be a category 3 on both sides when it rolled through.
im sorry this probally makes me a horrible person but i lived in s florida and i thought tht huricane was fun! (for me sucks for people who where affected)
What was the official cat. rating of wilma. Because there is no way the back part of that storm was a cat. 1. We were in Lake Worth and came out when the eye of the storm was directly over us. There was just minimal damage. After the back end of the storm hit, every screened in patio was demolished. Every non-palm tree was down. Spanish style roof tiles were everywhere. Again, there was no way it was a category one.
The storm maintained weak Category 3 status as it crossed the state...Wilma was a strange storm because the opposite side of the storm backbuilded. Usually the back side, while still strong, is nowhere near as fierce as the front. The same thing kind of happened with Tropical Storm Fay in 2008, it was able to maintain strength as it traveled over the peninsula...an unexplained phenomena. I guess somebody will figure out why eventually.
@RickR0ll I have a theory that because of how much warm water S.FL has including the everglades Wilma was never really deprived of energy same thing with fay
i was in ocean ridge by boynton beach when this hurricane hit. it was like 5 times worse then that. i have a video but its on a dvd-r and idk how to get it on youtube. sooo UGHHH. it was so scary. the cement telephone poels were snapped in half. that was a fun/ yet scary storm. as we speak we are having tropical storm fay. which im really excited about. i love hurricaness!
in la mancha my neighbors roof blew off, entirely. they had to stay with another neighbor for the second half of the storm. we all have canal property so we got it really bad
This video was shot to the north and northeast. The first part of the video is of the front of the storm. Later, when I am out in the yard, the back end of the storm comes in. It was much worse, so I had to go inside and got no video of the actual back end of the storm.
It was too dangerous to even open the door.
These homes are mostly wood frame, built in th 1980s before the strict hurricane standards were enacted after Andrew.
I don't supposed it would be cost effective to build housing that would hold up any better. It seems that these houses are just "pasted" together compared to brick houses.
I live in SW Ranches. We were without power for 2 whole weeks. A nice crew of power workers from Ohio finally replaced the power pole that was laying in our front yard. We lost half of the trees on our heavily landscaped 2 1/2 acres. We didn't think things would ever get right.
Thats some good video of the eyewall passing over you and you got a 360 view from inside the eye. I was in West Miramar when Wilma hit and the core of the Hurricane went right over us. I have good a vid but can't get it online (-_-)...
